The Hebrew scriptures are often known in Christian circles as ‘The Old Testament’ but called ‘The Hebrew Scriptures’ in the Open English Translation.

Around 300 BC, they were translated into Greek by some seventy or so Jewish scholars. This is known as the Septuagint, often abbreviated as LXX (both meaning “seventy”).
