Chief of the bodyguard of Egyptian king Ptolemy Philadelphus, sent by the king to Palestine to procure scribes to translate the OT into Greek (about 275 BC). The result was the translation known as the Septuagint. Eleazar, the Jewish high priest, praised Andreas as a good man, distinguished by his learning.
