City where Bacchides, a Syrian general of the Maccabean period, camped after his massacre of 60 Hasidian Jews in Jerusalem (1 Macc 7:19). At Beth-zaith more Jews were slaughtered and thrown into a pit. Beth-zaith is identified with modern Beit Zeita, near Bethlehem.
