JUDITH (Person)

1. Daughter of Beeri the Hittite and one of Esau’s wives (Gn 26:34). In Genesis 36:2 she is alternately called Oholibamah. See Oholibamah.

2. Heroine in the book of Judith, a beautiful Judean widow from Bethulia who beheaded the Assyrian general Holofernes, thereby saving her people from destruction. See Judith, Book of.
