இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் அப்போஸ்தலனாகிய பேதுரு தான் ஆசிரியர் என்று முதல் வசனம் சுட்டிக்காட்டுகிறது. இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் அப்போஸ்தலனாக தன்னை அழைத்தார் (1 பேதுரு 1: 1). கிறிஸ்துவின் துன்பங்களைக் குறித்த வசனங்களை அடிக்கடி கூறுவதன்மூலம் (2: 21-24; 3: 4; 1: 5; 1: 4) துன்பம் அனுபவிக்கும் ஊழியரின் நிலையானது அவருடைய நினைவில் ஆழமாக பதிவாகியிருந்தது என்பதைக் காட்டுகின்றன. அவர் மாற்குவை “மகன்” என்று அழைக்கிறார் (5: 13), குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ள இளைஞருக்கும் குடும்பத்திற்கும் அவரது பாசத்தை நினைவுகூர்கிறார் (அப்போஸ்தலர் 12: 12). அப்போஸ்தலனாகிய பேதுருதான் இந்த கடிதத்தை எழுதினார் என்ற கருத்திற்கு இந்த உண்மைகள் இயல்பாகவே வழிநடத்துகின்றன.
