קהלת 2 Ecclesiastes 2
1 אָמַ֤רְתִּֽי אֲנִי֙ [3] Pashta
בְּלִבִּ֔י [2] Zaqef

לְכָה־נָּ֛א [3] Tevir
אֲנַסְּכָ֥ה בְשִׂמְחָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
וּרְאֵ֣ה בְט֑וֹב [1] Etnachta

וְהִנֵּ֥ה גַם־ה֖וּא [2] Tip'cha
הָֽבֶל׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 3 2 1 I, I said [3]
in my heart, [2]

“Come now [3]
I will test you with pleasure [2]
to see what is good;” [1]

but behold this too [2]
was meaningless. [1]
2 לִשְׂח֖וֹק [2] Tip'cha
אָמַ֣רְתִּי מְהוֹלָ֑ל [1] Etnachta

וּלְשִׂמְחָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
מַה־זֹּ֥ה עֹשָֽׂה׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 2 Of laughter [2]
I said, “It is foolishness;” [1]

and of pleasure, [2]
“What does this accomplish?” [1]
3 תַּ֣רְתִּי בְלִבִּ֔י [2] Zaqef
לִמְשׁ֥וֹךְ בַּיַּ֖יִן [2] Tip'cha
אֶת־בְּשָׂרִ֑י [1] Etnachta

וְלִבִּ֞י [4] Gershayim
נֹהֵ֤ג בַּֽחׇכְמָה֙ [3] Pashta
וְלֶאֱחֹ֣ז בְּסִכְל֔וּת [2] Zaqef

עַ֣ד אֲשֶׁר־אֶרְאֶ֗ה [3] Revi'i

אֵי־זֶ֨ה ט֜וֹב [4] Geresh
לִבְנֵ֤י הָאָדָם֙ [3] Pashta

אֲשֶׁ֤ר יַעֲשׂוּ֙ [3] Pashta
תַּ֣חַת הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם [2] Zaqef

מִסְפַּ֖ר [2] Tip'cha
יְמֵ֥י חַיֵּיהֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 2 3 4 2 3 3 4 3 2 3 I searched in my heart [2]
how to cheer with wine [2]
my flesh; [1]

yet my heart [4]
guiding with wisdom [3]
of how to take hold of folly, [2]

until I might see [3]

what was good [4]
for the sons of men [3]

that they should do [3]
under the heavens, [2]

during the few [2]
days of their lives. [1]
4 הִגְדַּ֖לְתִּי [2] Tip'cha
מַעֲשָׂ֑י [1] Etnachta

בָּנִ֤יתִי לִי֙ [3] Pashta
בָּתִּ֔ים [2] Zaqef

נָטַ֥עְתִּי לִ֖י [2] Tip'cha
כְּרָמִֽים׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 3 2 4 I made great [2]
my works; [1]

I built for myself [3]
houses, [2]

I planted for myself [2]
vineyards. [1]
5 עָשִׂ֣יתִי לִ֔י [2] Zaqef
גַּנּ֖וֹת [2] Tip'cha
וּפַרְדֵּסִ֑ים [1] Etnachta

וְנָטַ֥עְתִּי בָהֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
עֵ֥ץ כׇּל־פֶּֽרִי׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 2 5 I made for myself [2]
gardens [2]
and parks; [1]

and I planted in them [2]
all kinds of fruit trees. [1]
6 עָשִׂ֥יתִי לִ֖י [2] Tip'cha
בְּרֵכ֣וֹת מָ֑יִם [1] Etnachta

לְהַשְׁק֣וֹת מֵהֶ֔ם [2] Zaqef
יַ֖עַר [2] Tip'cha
צוֹמֵ֥חַ עֵצִֽים׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 2 6 I made for myself [2]
pools of water; [1]

to water from them [2]
a forest [2]
of sprouting trees. [1]
7 קָנִ֙יתִי֙ [3 3] Pashta
עֲבָדִ֣ים וּשְׁפָח֔וֹת [2] Zaqef

וּבְנֵי־בַ֖יִת [2] Tip'cha
הָ֣יָה לִ֑י [1] Etnachta

גַּ֣ם מִקְנֶה֩ בָקָ֨ר וָצֹ֤אן הַרְבֵּה֙ [3] Pashta
הָ֣יָה לִ֔י [2] Zaqef

מִכֹּ֛ל [3] Tevir
שֶֽׁהָי֥וּ לְפָנַ֖י [2] Tip'cha
בִּירוּשָׁלָֽ͏ִם׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 3 2 3 7 I bought [3 3]
male servants and female servants, [2]

and sons born in the house [2]
were my servants; [1]

also herds of livestock and many flocks [3]
I had, [2]

more than all [3]
who were before me [2]
in Jerusalem. [1]
8 כָּנַ֤סְתִּי לִי֙ [3] Pashta
גַּם־כֶּ֣סֶף וְזָהָ֔ב [2] Zaqef

וּסְגֻלַּ֥ת מְלָכִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
וְהַמְּדִינ֑וֹת [1] Etnachta

עָשִׂ֨יתִי לִ֜י [4] Geresh
שָׁרִ֣ים וְשָׁר֗וֹת [3] Revi'i

וְתַעֲנֻג֛וֹת [3] Tevir
בְּנֵ֥י הָאָדָ֖ם [2] Tip'cha

שִׁדָּ֥ה וְשִׁדּֽוֹת׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 3 4 3 8 I gathered for myself [3]
also silver and gold, [2]

and the treasure of kings [2]
and provinces; [1]

I acquired for myself [4]
male singers and female singers, [3]

and the delights [3]
of the sons of men, [2]

many concubines. [1]
9 וְגָדַ֣לְתִּי וְהוֹסַ֔פְתִּי [2] Zaqef

מִכֹּ֛ל [3] Tevir
שֶׁהָיָ֥ה לְפָנַ֖י [2] Tip'cha
בִּירוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם [1] Etnachta

אַ֥ף חׇכְמָתִ֖י [2] Tip'cha
עָ֥מְדָה לִּֽי׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 3 2 9 So I became great and I increased, [2]

more than all [3]
who were before me [2]
in Jerusalem; [1]

also my wisdom, [2]
it stayed with me. [1]
10 וְכֹל֙ [3] Pashta
אֲשֶׁ֣ר שָֽׁאֲל֣וּ עֵינַ֔י [2] Zaqef

לֹ֥א אָצַ֖לְתִּי [2] Tip'cha
מֵהֶ֑ם [1] Etnachta

לֹֽא־מָנַ֨עְתִּי אֶת־לִבִּ֜י [4] Geresh
מִכׇּל־שִׂמְחָ֗ה [3] Revi'i

כִּֽי־לִבִּ֤י שָׂמֵ֙חַ֙ [3 3] Pashta
מִכׇּל־עֲמָלִ֔י [2] Zaqef

וְזֶֽה־הָיָ֥ה חֶלְקִ֖י [2] Tip'cha
מִכׇּל־עֲמָלִֽי׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 3 4 3 2 10 And anything [3]
that my eyes desired, [2]

I did not keep [2]
from them; [1]

I did not restrain my heart [4]
from any pleasure [3]

for my heart rejoiced [3 3]
from all my labor, [2]

and this was my reward [2]
from all my labor. [1]
11 וּפָנִ֣יתִֽי אֲנִ֗י [3] Revi'i
בְּכׇל־מַעֲשַׂי֙ [3] Pashta
שֶֽׁעָשׂ֣וּ יָדַ֔י [2] Zaqef

וּבֶֽעָמָ֖ל [2] Tip'cha
שֶׁעָמַ֣לְתִּי לַעֲשׂ֑וֹת [1] Etnachta

וְהִנֵּ֨ה הַכֹּ֥ל הֶ֙בֶל֙ [3 3] Pashta
וּרְע֣וּת ר֔וּחַ [2] Zaqef

וְאֵ֥ין יִתְר֖וֹן [2] Tip'cha
תַּ֥חַת הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 3 2 2 3 2 11 Yet when I, I looked [3]
on all my works [3]
that my hands had done, [2]

and on the labor [2]
that I had labored to do; [1]

then behold all was futility [3 3]
and a chasing after wind, [2]

and there was no profit [2]
under the sun. [1]
12 וּפָנִ֤יתִֽי אֲנִי֙ [3] Pashta
לִרְא֣וֹת חׇכְמָ֔ה [2] Zaqef

וְהוֹלֵל֖וֹת [2] Tip'cha
וְסִכְל֑וּת [1] Etnachta

כִּ֣י ׀ [4] Legarmeh
מֶ֣ה הָאָדָ֗ם [3] Revi'i

שֶׁיָּבוֹא֙ [3] Pashta
אַחֲרֵ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ [2] Zaqef

אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־כְּבָ֖ר [2] Tip'cha
עָשֽׂוּהוּ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 3 4 3 2 12 Then I, I turned [3]
to consider wisdom, [2]

and madness [2]
and folly; [1]

for [4]
what is the man [3]

who will come [3]
after the king? [2]

That which is already, [2]
it has been done. [1]
13 וְרָאִ֣יתִי אָ֔נִי [2] Zaqef

שֶׁיֵּ֥שׁ יִתְר֛וֹן [3] Tevir
לַֽחׇכְמָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
מִן־הַסִּכְל֑וּת [1] Etnachta

כִּֽיתְר֥וֹן הָא֖וֹר [2] Tip'cha
מִן־הַחֹֽשֶׁךְ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 3 2 13 Then I, I saw, [2]

there is an advantage [3]
to wisdom [2]
above folly; [1]

like the advantage of light [2]
above darkness. [1]
14 הֶֽחָכָם֙ [3] Pashta
עֵינָ֣יו בְּרֹאשׁ֔וֹ [2] Zaqef

וְהַכְּסִ֖יל [2] Tip'cha
בַּחֹ֣שֶׁךְ הוֹלֵ֑ךְ [1] Etnachta

וְיָדַ֣עְתִּי גַם־אָ֔נִי [2] Zaqef
שֶׁמִּקְרֶ֥ה אֶחָ֖ד [2] Tip'cha
יִקְרֶ֥ה אֶת־כֻּלָּֽם׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 2 14 The wise, [3]
his eyes are in his head, [2]

but the fool [2]
walks in darkness; [1]

yet I, I also knew [2]
that one fate, [2]
it will happen to them all. [1]
15 וְאָמַ֨רְתִּֽי אֲנִ֜י [4] Geresh
בְּלִבִּ֗י [3] Revi'i

כְּמִקְרֵ֤ה הַכְּסִיל֙ [3] Pashta
גַּם־אֲנִ֣י יִקְרֵ֔נִי [2] Zaqef

וְלָ֧מָּה חָכַ֛מְתִּי [3] Tevir
אֲנִ֖י [2] Tip'cha
אָ֣ז יֹתֵ֑ר [1] Etnachta

וְדִבַּ֣רְתִּי בְלִבִּ֔י [2] Zaqef
שֶׁגַּם־זֶ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
הָֽבֶל׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 4 3 2 3 2 2 15 So I, I said [4]
in my heart, [3]

“As it happens to the fool, [3]
I too, it will happen to me - [2]

so why have I become wise, [3]
I [2]
then so much?” [1]

And I said in my heart, [2]
that this too [2]
is futility. [1]
16 כִּי֩ אֵ֨ין זִכְר֧וֹן לֶחָכָ֛ם [3] Tevir
עִֽם־הַכְּסִ֖יל [2] Tip'cha
לְעוֹלָ֑ם [1] Etnachta

בְּשֶׁכְּבָ֞ר [4] Gershayim
הַיָּמִ֤ים הַבָּאִים֙ [3] Pashta
הַכֹּ֣ל נִשְׁכָּ֔ח [2] Zaqef

וְאֵ֛יךְ [3] Tevir
יָמ֥וּת הֶחָכָ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
עִֽם־הַכְּסִֽיל׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 3 4 2 3 16 For there is no remembrance of the wise, [3]
along with the fool, [2]
forever; [1]

since already [4]
in the days to come, [3]
all is forgotten. [2]

And how [3]
will the wise die? [2]
With the fool. [1]
17 וְשָׂנֵ֙אתִי֙ [3 3] Pashta
אֶת־הַ֣חַיִּ֔ים [2] Zaqef

כִּ֣י רַ֤ע עָלַי֙ [3] Pashta
הַֽמַּעֲשֶׂ֔ה [2] Zaqef

שֶׁנַּעֲשָׂ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
תַּ֣חַת הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ [1] Etnachta

כִּֽי־הַכֹּ֥ל הֶ֖בֶל [2] Tip'cha
וּרְע֥וּת רֽוּחַ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 3 2 2 17 So I hated [3 3]
life, [2]

because grievous to me [3]
was the work [2]

that is worked [2]
under the sun; [1]

for all is futility [2]
and a chasing after wind. [1]
18 וְשָׂנֵ֤אתִֽי אֲנִי֙ [3] Pashta
אֶת־כׇּל־עֲמָלִ֔י [2] Zaqef

שֶׁאֲנִ֥י עָמֵ֖ל [2] Tip'cha
תַּ֣חַת הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ [1] Etnachta

שֶׁ֣אַנִּיחֶ֔נּוּ [2] Zaqef
לָאָדָ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
שֶׁיִּהְיֶ֥ה אַחֲרָֽי׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 2 18 And I, I hated [3]
all my labor [2]

which I labored [2]
under the sun; [1]

since I must leave it [2]
to the man [2]
who comes after me. [1]
19 וּמִ֣י יוֹדֵ֗עַ [3] Revi'i
הֶֽחָכָ֤ם יִהְיֶה֙ [3] Pashta
א֣וֹ סָכָ֔ל [2] Zaqef

וְיִשְׁלַט֙ [3] Pashta
בְּכׇל־עֲמָלִ֔י [2] Zaqef

שֶֽׁעָמַ֥לְתִּי וְשֶׁחָכַ֖מְתִּי [2] Tip'cha
תַּ֣חַת הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ [1] Etnachta

גַּם־זֶ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
הָֽבֶל׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 3 2 3 2 2 19 And who knows, [3]
wise will he be [3]
or a fool, [2]

yet he will be master [3]
over all of my labor, [2]

in which I have labored and in which I have used my wisdom [2]
under the sun. [1]

This too [2]
is futility. [1]
20 וְסַבּ֥וֹתִֽי אֲנִ֖י [2] Tip'cha
לְיַאֵ֣שׁ אֶת־לִבִּ֑י [1] Etnachta

עַ֚ל [3] Yetiv
כׇּל־הֶ֣עָמָ֔ל [2] Zaqef

שֶׁעָמַ֖לְתִּי [2] Tip'cha
תַּ֥חַת הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 3 2 20 So I, I turned [2]
to give my heart over to despair; [1]

over [3]
all the labor [2]

in which I had labored [2]
under the sun. [1]
21 כִּי־יֵ֣שׁ אָדָ֗ם [3] Revi'i
שֶׁעֲמָל֛וֹ [3] Tevir
בְּחׇכְמָ֥ה וּבְדַ֖עַת [2] Tip'cha
וּבְכִשְׁר֑וֹן [1] Etnachta

וּלְאָדָ֞ם [4] Gershayim
שֶׁלֹּ֤א עָֽמַל־בּוֹ֙ [3] Pashta
יִתְּנֶ֣נּוּ חֶלְק֔וֹ [2] Zaqef

גַּם־זֶ֥ה הֶ֖בֶל [2] Tip'cha
וְרָעָ֥ה רַבָּֽה׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 3 2 3 4 2 21 For sometimes a man [3]
who has labored [3]
with wisdom and with knowledge, [2]
and with skill; [1]

to a man [4]
who has not labored for it, [3]
he must hand it over as an inheritance. [2]

This too is futility [2]
and a great evil. [1]
22 כִּ֠י [4] TelishaG

שְׁה֥וּא עָמֵ֖ל [2] Tip'cha
תַּ֥חַת הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 4 2 2 22 For [4]
what does a man get [3]
for all his labor [2]

and the striving [2]
of his heart; [1]

for which he labors [2]
under the sun? [1]
23 כִּ֧י כׇל־יָמָ֣יו מַכְאֹבִ֗ים [3] Revi'i
וָכַ֙עַס֙ [3 3] Pashta

לֹא־שָׁכַ֣ב לִבּ֑וֹ [1] Etnachta

גַּם־זֶ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
הֶ֥בֶל הֽוּא׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 3 2 2 23 For all his days are sorrows, [3]
and grief [3 3]
is his task, [2]

even in the night [2]
his heart takes no rest. [1]

This too [2]
is futility. [1]
24 אֵֽין־ט֤וֹב בָּאָדָם֙ [3] Pashta
שֶׁיֹּאכַ֣ל וְשָׁתָ֔ה [2] Zaqef

מִיַּ֥ד הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha

1 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 24 There is nothing better for a man [3]
than to eat and drink, [2]

and give his soul [3]
satisfaction [2]
in his labor; [1]

this also [3]
I, I have seen, [2]

that [3]
from the hand of God [2]
it is. [1]
25 כִּ֣י מִ֥י יֹאכַ֛ל [3] Tevir
וּמִ֥י יָח֖וּשׁ [2] Tip'cha
ח֥וּץ מִמֶּֽנִּי׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 25 For who can eat [3]
or who can have enjoyment, [2]
more than I? [1]
26 כִּ֤י לְאָדָם֙ [3] Pashta

גַּם־זֶ֥ה הֶ֖בֶל [2] Tip'cha
וּרְע֥וּת רֽוּחַ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 3 2 3 4 3 3 2 26 For to the man [3]
who is pleasing before him [2]

he gives [3]
wisdom and knowledge [2]
and joy; [1]

but to the sinner he gives the task [4]
of gathering and collecting, [3]

to give [3]
to one who is pleasing [3]
before God. [2]

This too is futility [2]
and a chasing after wind. [1]
