1 הֲלֹא־צָבָ֣א לֶאֱנ֣וֹשׁ [3] VDechi
*על־**עֲלֵי־אָ֑רֶץ [2] Etnachta
 
וְכִימֵ֖י שָׂכִ֣יר [2] VRevMug
יָמָֽיו׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 1 “Isn’t a man forced to labor on earth? Aren’t his days like the days of a hired hand? [3]
2 כְּעֶ֥בֶד יִשְׁאַף־צֵ֑ל [2] Etnachta
 
וּ֝כְשָׂכִ֗יר [2] Revi'i Mugrash
יְקַוֶּ֥ה פָעֳלֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq
2 2 2 As a servant who earnestly desires the shadow, as a hireling who looks for his wages, [2]
 
3 כֵּ֤ן הָנְחַ֣לְתִּי לִ֭י [3] Dechi
יַרְחֵי־שָׁ֑וְא [2] Etnachta
 
וְלֵיל֥וֹת עָ֝מָ֗ל [2] Revi'i Mugrash
מִנּוּ־לִֽי׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 3 so I am made to possess months of misery, wearisome nights are appointed to me. [3]
4 אִם־שָׁכַ֗בְתִּי [3] Revi'i
וְאָמַ֗רְתִּי [3] Revi'i
מָתַ֣י אָ֭קוּם [3] Dechi
וּמִדַּד־עָ֑רֶב [2] Etnachta
 
וְשָׂבַ֖עְתִּי נְדֻדִ֣ים [2] VRevMug
עֲדֵי־נָֽשֶׁף׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 3 3 2 4 When I lie down, I say, ‘When will I arise, and the night be gone?’ I toss and turn until the dawning of the day. [3]
5 לָ֘בַ֤שׁ בְּשָׂרִ֣י רִ֭מָּה [3] Dechi
*וגיש **וְג֣וּשׁ עָפָ֑ר [2] Etnachta
 
עוֹרִ֥י רָ֝גַ֗ע [2] Revi'i Mugrash
וַיִּמָּאֵֽס׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 5 My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust. My skin closes up, and breaks out afresh. [3]
6 יָמַ֣י קַ֭לּוּ [3] Dechi
מִנִּי־אָ֑רֶג [2] Etnachta
 
וַ֝יִּכְל֗וּ [2] Revi'i Mugrash
בְּאֶ֣פֶס תִּקְוָֽה׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 6 My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and are spent without hope. [3]
7 זְ֭כֹר [3] Dechi
כִּי־ר֣וּחַ חַיָּ֑י [2] Etnachta
 
לֹא־תָשׁ֥וּב עֵ֝ינִ֗י [2] Revi'i Mugrash
לִרְא֥וֹת טֽוֹב׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 7 Oh remember that my life is a breath. My eye will no more see good. [3]
8 לֹֽא־תְ֭שׁוּרֵנִי [3] Dechi
עֵ֣ין רֹ֑אִי [2] Etnachta
 
עֵינֶ֖יךָ בִּ֣י [2] VRevMug
וְאֵינֶֽנִּי׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 8 The eye of him who sees me will see me no more. Your eyes will be on me, but I will not be. [3]
9 כָּלָ֣ה עָ֭נָן [3] Dechi
וַיֵּלַ֑ךְ [2] Etnachta
 
כֵּ֥ן יוֹרֵ֥ד שְׁ֝א֗וֹל [2] Revi'i Mugrash
לֹ֣א יַעֲלֶֽה׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 9 As the cloud is consumed and vanishes away, so he who goes down to Sheol will come up no more. [3]
10 לֹא־יָשׁ֣וּב ע֣וֹד [3] VDechi
לְבֵית֑וֹ [2] Etnachta
 
וְלֹא־יַכִּירֶ֖נּוּ ע֣וֹד [2] VRevMug
מְקֹמֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 10 He will return no more to his house, neither will his place know him any more. [3]
11 גַּם־אֲנִי֮ [3] Sinnor
לֹ֤א אֶחֱשָׂ֫ךְ פִּ֥י [2] Ole Veyored
 
אֲ‍ֽ֭דַבְּרָה [3] Dechi
בְּצַ֣ר רוּחִ֑י [2] Etnachta
 
אָ֝שִׂ֗יחָה [2] Revi'i Mugrash
בְּמַ֣ר נַפְשִֽׁי׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 3 2 11 “Therefore I will not keep silent. I will speak in the anguish of my spirit. I will complain in the bitterness of my soul. [3]
12 הֲ‍ֽיָם־אָ֭נִי [3] Dechi
אִם־תַּנִּ֑ין [2] Etnachta
 
כִּֽי־תָשִׂ֖ים עָלַ֣י [2] VRevMug
מִשְׁמָֽר׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 12 Am I a sea, or a sea monster, that you put a guard over me? [3]
13 כִּֽי־אָ֭מַרְתִּי [3] Dechi
תְּנַחֲמֵ֣נִי עַרְשִׂ֑י [2] Etnachta
 
יִשָּׂ֥א בְ֝שִׂיחִ֗י [2] Revi'i Mugrash
מִשְׁכָּבִֽי׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 13 When I say, ‘My bed will comfort me. My couch will ease my complaint,’ [3]
14 וְחִתַּתַּ֥נִי בַחֲלֹמ֑וֹת [2] Etnachta
 
וּֽמֵחֶזְיֹנ֥וֹת תְּבַעֲתַֽנִּי׃ [1] Silluq
2 14 then you scare me with dreams, and terrify me through visions: [2]
 
15 וַתִּבְחַ֣ר מַחֲנָ֣ק [3] VDechi
נַפְשִׁ֑י [2] Etnachta
 
מָ֝֗וֶת [2] Revi'i Mugrash
מֵֽעַצְמוֹתָֽי׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 15 so that my soul chooses strangling, death rather than my bones. [3]
16 מָ֭אַסְתִּי [3] Dechi
לֹא־לְעֹלָ֣ם אֶֽחְיֶ֑ה [2] Etnachta
 
חֲדַ֥ל מִ֝מֶּ֗נִּי [2] Revi'i Mugrash
כִּי־הֶ֥בֶל יָמָֽי׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 16 I loathe my life. I don’t want to live forever. Leave me alone, for my days are but a breath. [3]
17 מָֽה־אֱ֭נוֹשׁ [3] Dechi
כִּ֣י תְגַדְּלֶ֑נּוּ [2] Etnachta
 
וְכִי־תָשִׁ֖ית אֵלָ֣יו [2] VRevMug
לִבֶּֽךָ׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 17 What is man, that you should magnify him, that you should set your mind on him, [3]
18 וַתִּפְקְדֶ֥נּוּ לִבְקָרִ֑ים [2] Etnachta
 
לִ֝רְגָעִ֗ים [2] Revi'i Mugrash
תִּבְחָנֶֽנּוּ׃ [1] Silluq
2 2 18 that you should visit him every morning, and test him every moment? [2]
 
19 כַּ֭מָּה [3] Dechi
לֹא־תִשְׁעֶ֣ה מִמֶּ֑נִּי [2] Etnachta
 
לֹֽא־תַ֝רְפֵּ֗נִי [2] Revi'i Mugrash
עַד־בִּלְעִ֥י רֻקִּֽי׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 19 How long will you not look away from me, nor leave me alone until I swallow down my spittle? [3]
20 חָטָ֡אתִי [4] Pazer
מָ֤ה אֶפְעַ֨ל ׀ [4] Azla Legarmeh
לָךְ֮ [3] Sinnor
נֹצֵ֪ר הָאָ֫דָ֥ם [2] Ole Veyored
 
לָ֤מָה שַׂמְתַּ֣נִי לְמִפְגָּ֣ע [3] VDechi
לָ֑ךְ [2] Etnachta
 
וָאֶהְיֶ֖ה עָלַ֣י [2] VRevMug
לְמַשָּֽׂא׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 4 4 2 3 2 20 If I have sinned, what do I do to you, you watcher of men? Why have you set me as a mark for you, so that I am a burden to myself? [4]
21 וּמֶ֤ה ׀ [4] Mahpakh Legarmeh
לֹא־תִשָּׂ֣א פִשְׁעִי֮ [3] Sinnor
וְתַעֲבִ֪יר אֶת־עֲוֺ֫נִ֥י [2] Ole Veyored
 
כִּֽי־עַ֭תָּה [3] Dechi
לֶעָפָ֣ר אֶשְׁכָּ֑ב [2] Etnachta
 
וְשִׁ֖חֲרְתַּ֣נִי [2] VRevMug
וְאֵינֶֽנִּי׃ [1] Silluq

2 3 4 2 3 2 21 Why do you not pardon my disobedience, and take away my iniquity? For now will I lie down in the dust. You will seek me diligently, but I will not be.” ¶ [4]
