DefinitionShort: (a diminutive derivative of κόρη ‘girl,’ not occurring in the NT, but seemingly having lost the diminutive feature of meaning) a girl about the age of puberty

        Glosses: girl

Comments: In {S:04100504100030} κοράσιον is equated in meaning with the Aramaic term ταλιθα (see {D:9.48}), and in {S:04100504200010} this girl is identified as being twelve years of age. Compare also ἠνέχθη ἡ κεφαλὴ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ πίνακι καὶ ἐδόθη τῷ κορασίῳ ‘his head was brought in on a plate and given to the girl’ ({S:04001401100022}). It is impossible to determine the age of Herodias’ daughter, but in view of her role as an attractive dancer, she was probably of the age of puberty.
