         Comments: In speaking of perfume in {S:04301200300010} it may be far better to indicate quantity rather than weight, and therefore one may translate ‘then Mary took a pint of perfume.’ In translating λίτρα in the NT, one need not identify the pound as being ‘a Roman pound.’ It is better to employ a common term for pound (normally weighing sixteen ounces) or to provide a rounded-off equivalent of the amount in metric units, for example, three hundred grams or one-half liter.
