1 Then we turned [4] and we set out to the wilderness [3] by way of the Sea of reeds, [2] the LORD had spoken [2] to me; [1] many days. [1] § |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
2 And the LORD spoke [2] to me saying, [1] |
[1] Silluq |
3 “Enough for you [2] of going around [2] this hill country. [1] northward. [1] |
4 And the people [3] tell (them) saying, [2] through the territory [3] of your relatives the children of Esau, [2] in Seir; [1] so you need to be careful [2] very much. [1] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
5 Don’t contend with them; [2] I will not give to you [3] any of their land, [2] a place for the sole of a foot to tread on; [1] I have given [2] the hill country of Seir. [1] |
6 You shall buy food from them [3] for silver, [2] that you may eat; [1] you shall buy from them [3] for silver, [2] that you may drink.’ ” [1] |
| 7 כִּי֩ יְהֹוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ [4] TelishaQ Qadma Geresh בֵּֽרַכְךָ֗ [3] Revi'a מַעֲשֵׂ֣ה יָדֶ֔ךָ [2] Munach Zaqef אֶת־הַמִּדְבָּ֥ר הַגָּדֹ֖ל [2] Merkha Tip'cha הַזֶּ֑ה [1] Etnachta אַרְבָּעִ֣ים שָׁנָ֗ה [3] Munach Revi'a עִמָּ֔ךְ [2] Zaqef דָּבָֽר׃ [1] Silluq |
7 For the LORD your God [4] he has blessed you [3] the work of your hands. [2] the great wilderness [2] this. [1] forty years [3] has been with you. [2] anything. [1] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
8 So we passed on [4] from our relatives the children of Esau [3] in Seir, [2] of the Arabah, [2] and from Ezion Geber. [1] § and we passed along [2] of the wilderness of Moab. [1] |
| 9 וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהֹוָ֜ה [4] Qadma Geresh אֵלַ֗י [3] Revi'a אֶת־מוֹאָ֔ב [2] Zaqef מִלְחָמָ֑ה [1] Etnachta לֹֽא־אֶתֵּ֨ן לְךָ֤ מֵֽאַרְצוֹ֙ [3] Qadma Mapakh Pashta יְרֻשָּׁ֔ה [2] Zaqef נָתַ֥תִּי אֶת־עָ֖ר [2] Merkha Tip'cha יְרֻשָּֽׁה׃ [1] Silluq |
9 And the LORD said [4] to me, [3] Moab, [2] in battle; [1] I will not give to you any of his land [3] as a possession, [2] I have given Ar [2] as a possession.” [1] |
10 (The Emim lived there before, a great and numerous people, and tall as the Anakim. [2] |
11 These also are considered to be Rephaim, as the Anakim; but the Moabites call them Emim. [3] |
12 The Horites also lived in Seir in the past, but the children of Esau succeeded them. They destroyed them from before them, and lived in their place, as Israel did to the land of his possession, which the LORD gave to them.) ¶ [4] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
13 “Now rise up, and cross over the brook Zered.” We went over the brook Zered. ¶ [3] |
| 14 וְהַיָּמִ֞ים [4] Gershayim אֲשֶׁר־הָלַ֣כְנוּ ׀ [4] Munach Legarmeh מִקָּדֵ֣שׁ בַּרְנֵ֗עַ [3] Munach Revi'a אֶת־נַ֣חַל זֶ֔רֶד [2] Munach Zaqef שָׁנָ֑ה [1] Etnachta אַנְשֵׁ֤י הַמִּלְחָמָה֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta מִקֶּ֣רֶב הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה [2] Munach Zaqef נִשְׁבַּ֥ע יְהֹוָ֖ה [2] Merkha Tip'cha לָהֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq |
14 The days in which we came from Kadesh Barnea until we had come over the brook Zered were thirty-eight years: until all the generation of the men of war were consumed from the middle of the camp, as the LORD swore to them. [4] |
15 Moreover the LORD’s hand was against them, to destroy them from the middle of the camp, until they were consumed. [3] |
16 So, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people, [4] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
17 the LORD spoke to me, saying, [2] |
[1] Silluq |
18 “You are to pass over Ar, the border of Moab, today. [3] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
19 When you come near the border of the children of Ammon, don’t bother them, nor contend with them; for I will not give you any of the land of the children of Ammon for a possession, because I have given it to the children of Lot for a possession.” ¶ [3] |
20 (That also is considered a land of Rephaim. Rephaim lived there in the past, but the Ammonites call them Zamzummim, [2] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
21 a great people, many, and tall, as the Anakim; but the LORD destroyed them from before Israel, and they succeeded them, and lived in their place; [3] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
22 as he did for the children of Esau who dwell in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites from before them; and they succeeded them, and lived in their place even to this day. [3] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
23 Then the Avvim, who lived in villages as far as Gaza: the Caphtorim, who came out of Caphtor, destroyed them and lived in their place.) ¶ [3] |

| 24 ק֣וּמוּ סְּע֗וּ [3] Munach Revi'a וְעִבְרוּ֮ [3] Zarqa אֶת־נַ֣חַל אַרְנֹן֒ [2] Munach Segol אֶת־סִיחֹ֨ן מֶֽלֶךְ־חֶשְׁבּ֧וֹן הָֽאֱמֹרִ֛י [3] Qadma Darga Tevir וְאֶת־אַרְצ֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha הָחֵ֣ל רָ֑שׁ [1] Munach Etnachta מִלְחָמָֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
24 “Rise up, take your journey, and pass over the valley of the Arnon. Behold, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land; begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle. [3] |
| 25 הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֗ה [3] Munach Revi'a אָחֵל֙ [3] Pashta תֵּ֤ת פַּחְדְּךָ֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta וְיִרְאָ֣תְךָ֔ [2] Munach Zaqef הָֽעַמִּ֔ים [2] Zaqef כׇּל־הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם [1] Etnachta שִׁמְעֲךָ֔ [2] Zaqef מִפָּנֶֽיךָ׃ [1] Silluq |
25 Today I will begin to put the dread of you and the fear of you on the peoples who are under the whole sky, who shall hear the report of you, and shall tremble and be in anguish because of you.” ¶ [3] |
26 I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying, [3] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
27 “Let me pass through your land. I will go along by the highway. I will turn neither to the right hand nor to the left. [2] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
28 You shall sell me food for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink. Just let me pass through on my feet, [3] |
| 29 כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר עָֽשׂוּ־לִ֜י [4] Qadma Geresh בְּנֵ֣י עֵשָׂ֗ו [3] Munach Revi'a בְּשֵׂעִ֔יר [2] Zaqef הַיֹּשְׁבִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha בְּעָ֑ר [1] Etnachta אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן [2] Zaqef אֲשֶׁר־יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ [2] Merkha Tip'cha נֹתֵ֥ן לָֽנוּ׃ [1] Merkha Silluq |
29 as the children of Esau who dwell in Seir, and the Moabites who dwell in Ar, did to me; until I pass over the Jordan into the land which the LORD our God gives us.” [4] |

30 But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him; for the LORD your God hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into your hand, as it is today. ¶ [3] |
31 The LORD said to me, “Behold, I have begun to deliver up Sihon and his land before you. Begin to possess, that you may inherit his land.” [3] |

32 Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Jahaz. [4] |
33 The LORD our God delivered him up before us; and we struck him, his sons, and all his people. [3] |

34 We took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed every inhabited city, with the women and the little ones. We left no one remaining. [3] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
35 Only the livestock we took for plunder for ourselves, with the plunder of the cities which we had taken. [2] |

36 From Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the valley, even to Gilead, there was not a city too high for us. The LORD our God delivered up all before us. [4] |

37 Only to the land of the children of Ammon you didn’t come near: all the banks of the river Jabbok, and the cities of the hill country, and wherever the LORD our God forbade us. ¶ [3] |
