2 3 2 1 The words of Kohelet, the son of David, king in Jerusalem: ¶ [3]

אָמַ֣ר קֹהֶ֔לֶת [2] Zaqef
 
הֲבֵ֥ל הֲבָלִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
הַכֹּ֥ל הָֽבֶל׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 2 “Vanity of vanities,” says Kohelet; “Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.” [3]
3 מַה־יִּתְר֖וֹן [2] Tip'cha
לָֽאָדָ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
בְּכׇ֨ל־עֲמָל֔וֹ [2] Zaqef

תַּ֥חַת הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 2 3 What does man gain from all his labor in which he labors under the sun? [2]
4 דּ֤וֹר הֹלֵךְ֙ [3] Pashta
וְד֣וֹר בָּ֔א [2] Zaqef
 
וְהָאָ֖רֶץ [2] Tip'cha
לְעוֹלָ֥ם עֹמָֽדֶת׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 4 One generation goes, and another generation comes; but the earth remains forever. [3]
5 וְזָרַ֥ח הַשֶּׁ֖מֶשׁ [2] Tip'cha
וּבָ֣א הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ [1] Etnachta
 
וְאֶ֨ל־מְקוֹמ֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
 
שׁוֹאֵ֛ף [3] Tevir
זוֹרֵ֥חַֽ ה֖וּא [2] Tip'cha
שָֽׁם׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 2 3 5 The sun also rises, and the sun goes down, and hurries to its place where it rises. [2]

אֶל־דָּר֔וֹם [2] Zaqef
 
וְסוֹבֵ֖ב [2] Tip'cha
אֶל־צָפ֑וֹן [1] Etnachta
 
סוֹבֵ֤ב ׀ סֹבֵב֙ [3] Pashta
הוֹלֵ֣ךְ הָר֔וּחַ [2] Zaqef
 
וְעַל־סְבִיבֹתָ֖יו [2] Tip'cha
שָׁ֥ב הָרֽוּחַ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 3 2 6 The wind goes toward the south, and turns around to the north. It turns around continually as it goes, and the wind returns again to its courses. [3]

הֹלְכִ֣ים אֶל־הַיָּ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
וְהַיָּ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
אֵינֶ֣נּוּ מָלֵ֑א [1] Etnachta
 
אֶל־מְק֗וֹם [3] Revi'i
שֶׁ֤הַנְּחָלִים֙ [3] Pashta
הֹֽלְכִ֔ים [2] Zaqef
 
שָׁ֛ם [3] Tevir
הֵ֥ם שָׁבִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
לָלָֽכֶת׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 3 3 2 3 7 All the rivers run into the sea, yet the sea is not full. To the place where the rivers flow, there they flow again. [3]
8 כׇּל־הַדְּבָרִ֣ים יְגֵעִ֔ים [2] Zaqef
לֹא־יוּכַ֥ל אִ֖ישׁ [2] Tip'cha
לְדַבֵּ֑ר [1] Etnachta
 
לֹא־תִשְׂבַּ֥ע עַ֙יִן֙ [3 3] Pashta
לִרְא֔וֹת [2] Zaqef
 
וְלֹא־תִמָּלֵ֥א אֹ֖זֶן [2] Tip'cha
מִשְּׁמֹֽעַ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 2 3 2 8 All things are full of weariness beyond uttering. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. [2]
9 מַה־שֶּֽׁהָיָה֙ [3] Pashta
ה֣וּא שֶׁיִּהְיֶ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
וּמַה־שֶּׁנַּֽעֲשָׂ֔ה [2] Zaqef
ה֖וּא [2] Tip'cha
שֶׁיֵּעָשֶׂ֑ה [1] Etnachta
 
וְאֵ֥ין כׇּל־חָדָ֖שׁ [2] Tip'cha
תַּ֥חַת הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 2 9 That which has been is that which shall be; and that which has been done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. [3]

שֶׁיֹּאמַ֥ר רְאֵה־זֶ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
חָדָ֣שׁ ה֑וּא [1] Etnachta
 
כְּבָר֙ [3] Pashta
הָיָ֣ה לְעֹֽלָמִ֔ים [2] Zaqef
 
אֲשֶׁ֥ר הָיָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
מִלְּפָנֵֽנוּ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 3 2 10 Is there a thing of which it may be said, “Behold, this is new?” It has been long ago, in the ages which were before us. [3]

וְגַ֨ם לָאַחֲרֹנִ֜ים [4] Geresh

לֹֽא־יִהְיֶ֤ה לָהֶם֙ [3] Pashta
זִכָּר֔וֹן [2] Zaqef
 
עִ֥ם שֶׁיִּהְי֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
לָאַחֲרֹנָֽה׃ [1] Silluq

2 3 3 12 I, Kohelet, was king over Israel in Jerusalem. [3]
13 וְנָתַ֣תִּי אֶת־לִבִּ֗י [3] Revi'i
לִדְר֤וֹשׁ וְלָתוּר֙ [3] Pashta
בַּֽחׇכְמָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
עַ֛ל [3] Tevir
כׇּל־אֲשֶׁ֥ר נַעֲשָׂ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
תַּ֣חַת הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם [1] Etnachta
 
ה֣וּא ׀ [4] Legarmeh
עִנְיַ֣ן רָ֗ע [3] Revi'i
 
נָתַ֧ן אֱלֹהִ֛ים [3] Tevir
לִבְנֵ֥י הָאָדָ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
 
לַעֲנ֥וֹת בּֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 3 2 3 2 3 4 3 13 I applied my heart to seek and to search out by wisdom concerning all that is done under the sky. It is a heavy burden that God has given to the sons of men to be afflicted with. [3]

שֶֽׁנַּעֲשׂ֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
תַּ֣חַת הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ [1] Etnachta
 
וְהִנֵּ֥ה הַכֹּ֛ל [3] Tevir
הֶ֖בֶל [2] Tip'cha
וּרְע֥וּת רֽוּחַ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 3 14 I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and behold, all is vanity and a chasing after wind. [3 3]
15 מְעֻוָּ֖ת [2] Tip'cha
לֹא־יוּכַ֣ל לִתְקֹ֑ן [1] Etnachta
 
וְחֶסְר֖וֹן [2] Tip'cha
לֹא־יוּכַ֥ל לְהִמָּנֽוֹת׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 15 That which is crooked can’t be made straight; and that which is lacking can’t be counted. [2]
16 דִּבַּ֨רְתִּי אֲנִ֤י עִם־לִבִּי֙ [3] Pashta

הִנֵּ֨ה הִגְדַּ֤לְתִּי וְהוֹסַ֙פְתִּי֙ [3 3] Pashta

כׇּל־אֲשֶׁר־הָיָ֥ה לְפָנַ֖י [2] Tip'cha
עַל־יְרוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם [1] Etnachta
 
וְלִבִּ֛י [3] Tevir
רָאָ֥ה הַרְבֵּ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
חׇכְמָ֥ה וָדָֽעַת׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 3 3 2 3 2 3 16 I said to myself, “Behold, I have obtained for myself great wisdom above all who were before me in Jerusalem. Yes, my heart has had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.” [3]
17 וָאֶתְּנָ֤ה לִבִּי֙ [3] Pashta
לָדַ֣עַת חׇכְמָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
וְדַ֥עַת הוֹלֵלֹ֖ת [2] Tip'cha
וְשִׂכְל֑וּת [1] Etnachta
 
יָדַ֕עְתִּי [2] ZaqefG
שֶׁגַּם־זֶ֥ה ה֖וּא [2] Tip'cha
רַעְי֥וֹן רֽוּחַ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 2 17 I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly. I perceived that this also was a chasing after wind. [3]

בְּרֹ֥ב חׇכְמָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
רׇב־כָּ֑עַס [1] Etnachta
 
וְיוֹסִ֥יף דַּ֖עַת [2] Tip'cha
יוֹסִ֥יף מַכְאֽוֹב׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 18 For in much wisdom is much grief; and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow. ¶ [3]
