קהלת 4 Ecclesiastes 4
1 וְשַׁ֣בְתִּֽי אֲנִ֗י [3] Revi'i
וָאֶרְאֶה֙ [3] Pashta
אֶת־כׇּל־הָ֣עֲשֻׁקִ֔ים [2] Zaqef

אֲשֶׁ֥ר נַעֲשִׂ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
תַּ֣חַת הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ [1] Etnachta

וְהִנֵּ֣ה ׀ [4] Legarmeh
דִּמְעַ֣ת הָעֲשֻׁקִ֗ים [3] Revi'i

וְאֵ֤ין לָהֶם֙ [3] Pashta
מְנַחֵ֔ם [2] Zaqef

וּמִיַּ֤ד עֹֽשְׁקֵיהֶם֙ [3] Pashta
כֹּ֔חַ [2] Zaqef

וְאֵ֥ין לָהֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
מְנַחֵֽם׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 3 2 2 3 4 3 2 3 2 1 Then I, I looked again [3]
and I saw [3]
all the oppressions [2]

that are done [2]
under the sun; [1]

and behold [4]
the tears of the oppressed, [3]

but they have no [3]
comforter, [2]

and on the side of their oppressors [3]
is power, [2]

but they have no [2]
comforter. [1]
2 וְשַׁבֵּ֧חַ אֲנִ֛י [3] Tevir
אֶת־הַמֵּתִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
שֶׁכְּבָ֣ר מֵ֑תוּ [1] Etnachta

מִן־הַ֣חַיִּ֔ים [2] Zaqef

אֲשֶׁ֛ר [3] Tevir
הֵ֥מָּה חַיִּ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
עֲדֶֽנָה׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 3 2 So I, I considered fortunate [3]
the dead [2]
who have already died; [1]

more than the living [2]

who [3]
are alive [2]
still. [1]
3 וְטוֹב֙ [3] Pashta
מִשְּׁנֵיהֶ֔ם [2] Zaqef

אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־עֲדֶ֖ן [2] Tip'cha
לֹ֣א הָיָ֑ה [1] Etnachta

אֲשֶׁ֤ר לֹֽא־רָאָה֙ [3] Pashta
אֶת־הַמַּעֲשֶׂ֣ה הָרָ֔ע [2] Zaqef

אֲשֶׁ֥ר נַעֲשָׂ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
תַּ֥חַת הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 3 2 3 Yet better [3]
than both of them [2]

is one who still [2]
has not been; [1]

who has not seen [3]
the evil work [2]

that is done [2]
under the sun. [1]
4 וְרָאִ֨יתִֽי אֲנִ֜י [4] Geresh
אֶת־כׇּל־עָמָ֗ל [3] Revi'i

וְאֵת֙ [3] Pashta
כׇּל־כִּשְׁר֣וֹן הַֽמַּעֲשֶׂ֔ה [2] Zaqef

כִּ֛י [3] Tevir
הִ֥יא קִנְאַת־אִ֖ישׁ [2] Tip'cha
מֵרֵעֵ֑הוּ [1] Etnachta

גַּם־זֶ֥ה הֶ֖בֶל [2] Tip'cha
וּרְע֥וּת רֽוּחַ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 4 3 2 3 2 4 Then I, I saw [4]
all the labor [3]

and [3]
all the skillful work, [2]

that [3]
everyone's envy it is [2]
of his neighbor; [1]

this too is futility [2]
and striving after the wind. [1]
5 הַכְּסִיל֙ [3] Pashta
חֹבֵ֣ק אֶת־יָדָ֔יו [2] Zaqef

וְאֹכֵ֖ל [2] Tip'cha
אֶת־בְּשָׂרֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 5 The fool [3]
folds his hands, [2]

and eats [2]
his own flesh. [1]
6 ט֕וֹב [2] ZaqefG
מְלֹ֥א כַ֖ף [2] Tip'cha
נָ֑חַת [1] Etnachta

מִמְּלֹ֥א חׇפְנַ֛יִם [3] Tevir
עָמָ֖ל [2] Tip'cha
וּרְע֥וּת רֽוּחַ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 2 3 6 Better [2]
is a handful [2]
with tranquility; [1]

than two handfuls [3]
with toil, [2]
and striving after wind. [1]
7 וְשַׁ֧בְתִּי אֲנִ֛י [3] Tevir
וָאֶרְאֶ֥ה הֶ֖בֶל [2] Tip'cha
תַּ֥חַת הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 7 Then I, I looked again [3]
and I saw futility [2]
under the sun. [1]
8 יֵ֣שׁ אֶחָד֩ וְאֵ֨ין שֵׁנִ֜י [4] Geresh
גַּ֣ם בֵּ֧ן וָאָ֣ח אֵֽין־ל֗וֹ [3] Revi'i

וְאֵ֥ין קֵץ֙ [3] Pashta
לְכׇל־עֲמָל֔וֹ [2] Zaqef

גַּם־*עיניו **עֵינ֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha
לֹא־תִשְׂבַּ֣ע עֹ֑שֶׁר [1] Etnachta

וּלְמִ֣י ׀ [4] Legarmeh
אֲנִ֣י עָמֵ֗ל [3] Revi'i

וּמְחַסֵּ֤ר אֶת־נַפְשִׁי֙ [3] Pashta
מִטּוֹבָ֔ה [2] Zaqef

גַּם־זֶ֥ה הֶ֛בֶל [3] Tevir
וְעִנְיַ֥ן רָ֖ע [2] Tip'cha
הֽוּא׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 4 3 2 2 3 4 3 2 3 8 There is one who has no one else, [4]
no son and no brother he has, [3]

yet there is no end [3]
to all his toil, [2]

and his eye [2]
is not content with riches; [1]

“So for whom [4]
am I toiling, [3]

and depriving myself [3]
of prosperity?” [2]

This too is futility, [3]
and a grievous task [2]
it is. [1]
9 טוֹבִ֥ים הַשְּׁנַ֖יִם [2] Tip'cha
מִן־הָאֶחָ֑ד [1] Etnachta

אֲשֶׁ֧ר יֵשׁ־לָהֶ֛ם [3] Tevir
שָׂכָ֥ר ט֖וֹב [2] Tip'cha
בַּעֲמָלָֽם׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 3 9 Two are better [2]
than one; [1]

because they have [3]
a good reward [2]
for their labor. [1]
10 כִּ֣י אִם־יִפֹּ֔לוּ [2] Zaqef
הָאֶחָ֖ד [2] Tip'cha
יָקִ֣ים אֶת־חֲבֵר֑וֹ [1] Etnachta

וְאִ֣יל֗וֹ [3] Revi'i
הָֽאֶחָד֙ [3] Pashta
שֶׁיִּפּ֔וֹל [2] Zaqef

וְאֵ֥ין שֵׁנִ֖י [2] Tip'cha
לַהֲקִימֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 2 3 3 2 10 For if they fall - [2]
the one, [2]
he will lift up his companion; [1]

but woe to him [3]
who alone [3]
he falls down, [2]

and there is no other [2]
to lift him up. [1]
11 גַּ֛ם [3] Tevir
אִם־יִשְׁכְּב֥וּ שְׁנַ֖יִם [2] Tip'cha
וְחַ֣ם לָהֶ֑ם [1] Etnachta

וּלְאֶחָ֖ד [2] Tip'cha
אֵ֥יךְ יֵחָֽם׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 11 Also [3]
if two lie down together [2]
then warmth they will have; [1]

but for one alone, [2]
how will he be warm? [1]
12 וְאִֽם־יִתְקְפוֹ֙ [3] Pashta
הָאֶחָ֔ד [2] Zaqef

הַשְּׁנַ֖יִם [2] Tip'cha
יַעַמְד֣וּ נֶגְדּ֑וֹ [1] Etnachta

וְהַחוּט֙ [3] Pashta
הַֽמְשֻׁלָּ֔שׁ [2] Zaqef

לֹ֥א בִמְהֵרָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
יִנָּתֵֽק׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 3 2 12 And though a person might overpower him, [3]
one who is alone, [2]

two, [2]
they can stand against him; [1]

and the cord [3]
that is threefold, [2]

not quickly [2]
can it be broken. [1]
13 ט֛וֹב [3] Tevir
יֶ֥לֶד מִסְכֵּ֖ן [2] Tip'cha
וְחָכָ֑ם [1] Etnachta

מִמֶּ֤לֶךְ זָקֵן֙ [3] Pashta
וּכְסִ֔יל [2] Zaqef

אֲשֶׁ֛ר [3] Tevir
לֹא־יָדַ֥ע לְהִזָּהֵ֖ר [2] Tip'cha
עֽוֹד׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 3 2 3 13 Better [3]
is a youth who is poor [2]
and wise; [1]

than a king who is old [3]
and foolish, [2]

who [3]
doesn't know how to take warning [2]
anymore. [1]
14 כִּֽי־מִבֵּ֥ית הָסוּרִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
יָצָ֣א לִמְלֹ֑ךְ [1] Etnachta

כִּ֛י [3] Tevir
גַּ֥ם בְּמַלְכוּת֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha
נוֹלַ֥ד רָֽשׁ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 3 14 For from prison [2]
he came out to become king; [1]

though [3]
also in his own kingdom [2]
he had been born poor. [1]
15 רָאִ֙יתִי֙ [3 3] Pashta
אֶת־כׇּל־הַ֣חַיִּ֔ים [2] Zaqef

הַֽמְהַלְּכִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
תַּ֣חַת הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ [1] Etnachta

עִ֚ם [3] Yetiv
הַיֶּ֣לֶד הַשֵּׁנִ֔י [2] Zaqef

אֲשֶׁ֥ר יַעֲמֹ֖ד [2] Tip'cha
תַּחְתָּֽיו׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 3 2 15 I saw [3 3]
all the living [2]

who walk about [2]
under the sun; [1]

with [3]
the second youth [2]

who will arise [2]
in his place. [1]
16 אֵֽין־קֵ֣ץ לְכׇל־הָעָ֗ם [3] Revi'i
לְכֹ֤ל אֲשֶׁר־הָיָה֙ [3] Pashta
לִפְנֵיהֶ֔ם [2] Zaqef

גַּ֥ם הָאַחֲרוֹנִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
לֹ֣א יִשְׂמְחוּ־ב֑וֹ [1] Etnachta

כִּֽי־גַם־זֶ֥ה הֶ֖בֶל [2] Tip'cha
וְרַעְי֥וֹן רֽוּחַ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 3 2 2 16 There was no end to all the people, [3]
to all whom he was [3]
before them, [2]

yet those who come after, [2]
they shall not rejoice in him. [1]

Surely this too is futility [2]
and a striving after the wind. [1]
17 שְׁמֹ֣ר *רגליך **רַגְלְךָ֗ [3] Revi'i
כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר תֵּלֵךְ֙ [3] Pashta
אֶל־בֵּ֣ית הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים [2] Zaqef

וְקָר֣וֹב לִשְׁמֹ֔עַ [2] Zaqef
מִתֵּ֥ת הַכְּסִילִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
זָ֑בַח [1] Etnachta

כִּֽי־אֵינָ֥ם יוֹדְעִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת רָֽע׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 3 2 2 2 1 Watch your step [3]
when you go [3]
to the house of God, [2]

and draw near to listen, [2]
rather than the offering of fools [2]
of a sacrifice; [1]

for they do not know [2]
(whether they) do evil. [1]
