each man with his family [2]

שִׁבְעִ֣ים נָ֑פֶשׁ [1] Etnachta
 
וְיוֹסֵ֖ף [2] Tip'cha
הָיָ֥ה בְמִצְרָֽיִם׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 3 2 5 And it was, [3]
all the souls [3]
who came out of the line of Jacob, [2]
were seventy souls; [1]
 
while Joseph, [2]
he was in Egypt. [1]
6 וַיָּ֤מׇת יוֹסֵף֙ [3] Pashta
וְכׇל־אֶחָ֔יו [2] Zaqef
 
וְכֹ֖ל [2] Tip'cha
הַדּ֥וֹר הַהֽוּא׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 6 Then Joseph died [3]
and all his brothers, [2]
 
and all [2]
that generation. [1]
7 וּבְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל [3] Revi'i
פָּר֧וּ וַֽיִּשְׁרְצ֛וּ [3] Tevir
וַיִּרְבּ֥וּ וַיַּֽעַצְמ֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
בִּמְאֹ֣ד מְאֹ֑ד [1] Etnachta
 
וַתִּמָּלֵ֥א הָאָ֖רֶץ [2] Tip'cha
אֹתָֽם׃ [1] Silluq

they were fruitful and they increased abundantly [3]
and they multiplied and they grew numerous, [2]
extremely; [1]
 
so the land was filled with [2]
them. [1]
8 וַיָּ֥קׇם מֶֽלֶךְ־חָדָ֖שׁ [2] Tip'cha
עַל־מִצְרָ֑יִם [1] Etnachta
 
אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹֽא־יָדַ֖ע [2] Tip'cha
אֶת־יוֹסֵֽף׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 8 Now a new king arose [2]
over Egypt; [1]
 
who did not know [2]
Joseph. [1]
9 וַיֹּ֖אמֶר [2] Tip'cha
אֶל־עַמּ֑וֹ [1] Etnachta
 
הִנֵּ֗ה [3] Revi'i
עַ֚ם [3] Yetiv
בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל [2] Zaqef
 
רַ֥ב וְעָצ֖וּם [2] Tip'cha
מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃ [1] Silluq

to his people; [1]
 
“Behold, [3]
the people [3]
of the children of Israel [2]
 
are numerous and mighty [2]
more than we. [1]
10 הָ֥בָה נִֽתְחַכְּמָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
ל֑וֹ [1] Etnachta
 
פֶּן־יִרְבֶּ֗ה [3] Revi'i
 
וְהָיָ֞ה [4] Gershayim
כִּֽי־תִקְרֶ֤אנָה מִלְחָמָה֙ [3] Pashta
 
וְנוֹסַ֤ף גַּם־הוּא֙ [3] Pashta
עַל־שֹׂ֣נְאֵ֔ינוּ [2] Zaqef
 
וְנִלְחַם־בָּ֖נוּ [2] Tip'cha
וְעָלָ֥ה מִן־הָאָֽרֶץ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 3 3 4 3 2 10 Come, we must deal shrewdly [2]
with them; [1]
 
lest they multiply, [3]
 
and it happen [4]
if war breaks out [3]
 
that they also join themselves [3]
to our enemies, [2]
 
and they fight against us [2]
and they go up from the land.” [1]
11 וַיָּשִׂ֤ימוּ עָלָיו֙ [3] Pashta
שָׂרֵ֣י מִסִּ֔ים [2] Zaqef
 
לְמַ֥עַן עַנֹּת֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha
בְּסִבְלֹתָ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
וַיִּ֜בֶן [4] Geresh
עָרֵ֤י מִסְכְּנוֹת֙ [3] Pashta
לְפַרְעֹ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
אֶת־פִּתֹ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
וְאֶת־רַעַמְסֵֽס׃ [1] Silluq

slave masters [2]
 
to afflict them [2]
with their forced labor; [1]
 
and they built [4]
storage cities [3]
for Pharaoh, [2]
 
Pithom [2]
and Raamses. [1]
12 וְכַאֲשֶׁר֙ [3] Pashta
יְעַנּ֣וּ אֹת֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
 
כֵּ֥ן יִרְבֶּ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
וְכֵ֣ן יִפְרֹ֑ץ [1] Etnachta
 
וַיָּקֻ֕צוּ [2] ZaqefG
מִפְּנֵ֖י [2] Tip'cha
בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ [1] Silluq

they afflicted them, [2]
 
the more they multiplied [2]
and the more they spread; [1]
 
so they dreaded the presence [2]
of [2]
the children of Israel. [1]
13 וַיַּעֲבִ֧דוּ מִצְרַ֛יִם [3] Tevir
אֶת־בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל [2] Tip'cha
בְּפָֽרֶךְ׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 13 And the Egyptians worked [3]
the children of Israel [2]
harshly, [1]
14 וַיְמָרְר֨וּ אֶת־חַיֵּיהֶ֜ם [4] Geresh
בַּעֲבֹדָ֣ה קָשָׁ֗ה [3] Revi'i
 
בְּחֹ֙מֶר֙ [3 3] Pashta
וּבִלְבֵנִ֔ים [2] Zaqef
 
וּבְכׇל־עֲבֹדָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
בַּשָּׂדֶ֑ה [1] Etnachta
 
אֵ֚ת [3] Yetiv
כׇּל־עֲבֹ֣דָתָ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
אֲשֶׁר־עָבְד֥וּ בָהֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
בְּפָֽרֶךְ׃ [1] Silluq

with hard labour [3]
 
in mortar [3 3]
and in bricks, [2]
 
and in all kinds of work [2]
in the fields; [1]

15 וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ [3 3] Pashta
מֶ֣לֶךְ מִצְרַ֔יִם [2] Zaqef
 
לַֽמְיַלְּדֹ֖ת [2] Tip'cha
הָֽעִבְרִיֹּ֑ת [1] Etnachta
 
אֲשֶׁ֨ר שֵׁ֤ם הָֽאַחַת֙ [3] Pashta
שִׁפְרָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
וְשֵׁ֥ם הַשֵּׁנִ֖ית [2] Tip'cha
פּוּעָֽה׃ [1] Silluq

the king of Egypt, [2]
 
to the midwives, [2]
the Hebrew; [1]
 
one of whom was named [3]
Shiphrah, [2]
 
and the other named [2]
Puah, [1]
16 וַיֹּ֗אמֶר [3] Revi'i
בְּיַלֶּדְכֶן֙ [3] Pashta
אֶת־הָֽעִבְרִיּ֔וֹת [2] Zaqef
 
וּרְאִיתֶ֖ן [2] Tip'cha
עַל־הָאׇבְנָ֑יִם [1] Etnachta
 
אִם־בֵּ֥ן הוּא֙ [3] Pashta
וַהֲמִתֶּ֣ן אֹת֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
 
וְאִם־בַּ֥ת הִ֖וא [2] Tip'cha
וָחָֽיָה׃ [1] Silluq

“When you assist as midwife [3]
the Hebrew women, [2]
 
and you look [2]
on the child; [1]
 
if it is a son [3]
then you shall kill him, [2]
 
but if it is a daughter [2]
then she shall live.” [1]
17 וַתִּירֶ֤אןָ הַֽמְיַלְּדֹת֙ [3] Pashta
אֶת־הָ֣אֱלֹהִ֔ים [2] Zaqef
 
וְלֹ֣א עָשׂ֔וּ [2] Zaqef
 
כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר [3] Tevir
דִּבֶּ֥ר אֲלֵיהֶ֖ן [2] Tip'cha
מֶ֣לֶךְ מִצְרָ֑יִם [1] Etnachta
 
וַתְּחַיֶּ֖יןָ [2] Tip'cha
אֶת־הַיְלָדִֽים׃ [1] Silluq

God, [2]
 
so they did not do [2]
 
as [3]
he had commanded them, [2]
the king of Egypt; [1]
 
but they let live [2]
the baby boys. [1]
18 וַיִּקְרָ֤א מֶֽלֶךְ־מִצְרַ֙יִם֙ [3 3] Pashta
לַֽמְיַלְּדֹ֔ת [2] Zaqef
 
וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לָהֶ֔ן [2] Zaqef
מַדּ֥וּעַ עֲשִׂיתֶ֖ן [2] Tip'cha
הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֑ה [1] Etnachta
 
וַתְּחַיֶּ֖יןָ [2] Tip'cha
אֶת־הַיְלָדִֽים׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 2 18 So the king of Egypt summoned [3 3]
the midwives, [2]
 
and he said to them, [2]
“Why have you done [2]
this thing; [1]
 
and you have let live [2]
the baby boys?” [1]
19 וַתֹּאמַ֤רְןָ הַֽמְיַלְּדֹת֙ [3] Pashta
אֶל־פַּרְעֹ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
כִּ֣י לֹ֧א כַנָּשִׁ֛ים [3] Tevir
הַמִּצְרִיֹּ֖ת [2] Tip'cha
הָֽעִבְרִיֹּ֑ת [1] Etnachta
 
כִּֽי־חָי֣וֹת הֵ֔נָּה [2] Zaqef
 
בְּטֶ֨רֶם תָּב֧וֹא אֲלֵהֶ֛ן [3] Tevir
הַמְיַלֶּ֖דֶת [2] Tip'cha
וְיָלָֽדוּ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 3 2 2 3 19 And the midwives said [3]
to Pharaoh, [2]
 
“Because not like the women, [3]
the Egyptian, [2]
are the Hebrew women; [1]
 
for they are vigorous, [2]
 
before she comes to them, [3]
the midwife, [2]
they give birth.” [1]
20 וַיֵּ֥יטֶב אֱלֹהִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
לַֽמְיַלְּדֹ֑ת [1] Etnachta
 
וַיִּ֧רֶב הָעָ֛ם [3] Tevir
וַיַּֽעַצְמ֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
מְאֹֽד׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 3 20 So God was good [2]
to the midwives; [1]
 
and the people multiplied [3]
and they grew numerous, [2]
extremely. [1]
21 וַיְהִ֕י [2] ZaqefG
כִּֽי־יָרְא֥וּ הַֽמְיַלְּדֹ֖ת [2] Tip'cha
אֶת־הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים [1] Etnachta
 
וַיַּ֥עַשׂ לָהֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
בָּתִּֽים׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 2 21 And it was, [2]
because the midwives feared [2]
God; [1]
 
he gave them their own [2]
families. [1]
22 וַיְצַ֣ו פַּרְעֹ֔ה [2] Zaqef
לְכׇל־עַמּ֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha
לֵאמֹ֑ר [1] Etnachta
 
כׇּל־הַבֵּ֣ן הַיִּלּ֗וֹד [3] Revi'i
הַיְאֹ֙רָה֙ [3 3] Pashta
תַּשְׁלִיכֻ֔הוּ [2] Zaqef
 
וְכׇל־הַבַּ֖ת [2] Tip'cha
תְּחַיּֽוּן׃ [1] Silluq

1 2 2 2 3 3 2 22 But Pharaoh commanded [2]
all his people, [2]
saying; [1]
 
“Every son that is born, [3]
into the river [3 3]
you shall throw him, [2]
 
but every daughter, [2]
you shall let live.” [1]
