[1] Merkha Silluq |
1 But listen now [2] O Jacob my servant; [1] on whom my choice is fixed. [1] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
2 Thus says the LORD who made you [3] and who formed you from the womb, [2] he will help you; [1] O my servant Jacob, [2] on whom my choice is fixed. [1] |
3 For I will pour out water [3] on the thirsty land, [2] on the dry ground; [1] on your offspring, [2] on your descendants, [1] |
[1] Silluq |
4 and they will spring up [2] among the grass; [1] by flowing streams. [1] |
5 This one will say, [3] ‘I belong to the LORD,’ [2] he will be called by the name Jacob; [1] he will write on his hand [3] ‘belongs to the LORD,’ [2] he will take.” [1] ¶ |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
6 Thus says the LORD the King of Israel [3] and his Redeemer, [2] the LORD of Hosts; [1] and I am the last, [2] there is no God. [1] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
7 And who is like me? Let him proclaim it. [3] And let him declare it and recount it in order [3] to me, [2] a nation long ago; [1] and what will happen, [2] let them declare to them. [1] |
8 Do not dread [3] and do not fear, [2] I told you and I declared, [2] and you are my witnesses; [1] besides me? [2] none do I know.” [1] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
9 All those who fashion idols [3] are emptiness, [2] they do not profit; [1] they don’t see [3] and they don't know, [2] that they may be put to shame. [1] |
[1] Silluq |
10 Who fashions a god [2] or casts an idol; [1] profit? [1] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
11 Behold all his friends, [3] they will be ashamed, [2] are only human; [1] let them stand up, [2] let them be put to shame together. [1] |
12 A blacksmith [3] takes a tool, [2] over the coals [2] he fashions it; [1] with his strong arm, [2] and his strength fails, [2] and he gets tired. [1] |

13 A carpenter, [3] he stretches out a line, [2] with planes, [2] he marks it; [1] like the figure of a man, [2] to be set in a shrine. [1] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
14 He cuts down cedars for himself, [2] or an oak [2] among the trees of the forest; [1] and the rain makes it grow. [1] |

15 Then it is something for a man [3] to burn, [2] and he warms himself, [2] and he bakes bread; [1] and he worships it, [2] and he bows before it. [1] |

16 Half of it [3] he burns in the fire, [2] he eats meat, [2] and he is satisfied; [1] and he says, “Ah! [2] I have seen the fire.” [1] |
17 But the rest of it [2] he makes into a god, [2] into his idol; [1] and he prays to it, [2] “Deliver me, [2] you are!” [1] |
[1] Silluq |

19 And he doesn't reflect in his heart, [3] with no knowledge and no understanding [3] to say, [2] I burned in a fire, [3] I baked on its coals, [3] bread. [2] and I ate it; [1] shall I make into an abomination? [2] shall I bow down?” [1] |
