1 וַ֭יַּעַן [3] Dechi
אֱלִיפַ֥ז הַֽתֵּימָנִ֗י [3/2] Revi'i
וַיֹּאמַֽר׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 1 Then he answered, [3]
Eliphaz the Temanite, [3/2]
and he said, [1]
2 הֶחָכָ֗ם [3] Revi'i
יַעֲנֶ֥ה דַעַת־ר֑וּחַ [2] Etnachta
 
וִימַלֵּ֖א קָדִ֣ים [2] VRevMug
בִּטְנֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 2 “The wise, [3]
does he answer with empty knowledge; [2]
 
and does he fill with the east wind [2]
his belly? [1]
3 הוֹכֵ֣חַ בְּ֭דָבָר [3] Dechi
לֹ֣א יִסְכּ֑וֹן [2] Etnachta
 
וּ֝מִלִּ֗ים [2] Revi'i Mugrash
לֹא־יוֹעִ֥יל בָּֽם׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 3 Does he argue with a word [3]
that's of no use; [2]
 
and words, [2]
when no one profits by them? [1]
4 אַף־אַ֭תָּה [3] Dechi
תָּפֵ֣ר יִרְאָ֑ה [2] Etnachta
 
וְתִגְרַ֥ע שִׂ֝יחָ֗ה [2] Revi'i Mugrash
לִפְנֵי־אֵֽל׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 4 And you, [3]
you do away with reverence; [2]
 
and you hinder devotion [2]
before God. [1]
5 כִּ֤י יְאַלֵּ֣ף עֲוֺנְךָ֣ [3] VDechi
פִ֑יךָ [2] Etnachta
 
וְ֝תִבְחַ֗ר [2] Revi'i Mugrash
לְשׁ֣וֹן עֲרוּמִֽים׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 5 For your iniquity teaches [3]
your mouth; [2]
 
and you choose [2]
the language of the crafty. [1]
6 יַרְשִׁיעֲךָ֣ פִ֣יךָ [3] VDechi
וְלֹא־אָ֑נִי [2] Etnachta
 
וּ֝שְׂפָתֶ֗יךָ [2] Revi'i Mugrash
יַעֲנוּ־בָֽךְ׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 6 Your own mouth condemns you as guilty [3]
and not I; [2]
 
and your own lips, [2]
they testify against you. [1]
7 הֲרִאישׁ֣וֹן אָ֭דָם [3] Dechi
תִּוָּלֵ֑ד [2] Etnachta
 
וְלִפְנֵ֖י גְבָע֣וֹת [2] VRevMug
חוֹלָֽלְתָּ׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 7 “The first man [3]
born were you? [2]
 
And before the hills[2]
were you brought forth? [1]
8 הַבְס֣וֹד אֱל֣וֹהַּ [3] VDechi
תִּשְׁמָ֑ע [2] Etnachta
 
וְתִגְרַ֖ע אֵלֶ֣יךָ [2] VRevMug
חׇכְמָֽה׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 8 In the secret counsel of God [3]
do you listen; [2]
 
and do you withhold to yourself [2]
wisdom? [1]
9 מַה־יָּ֭דַעְתָּ [3] Dechi
וְלֹ֣א נֵדָ֑ע [2] Etnachta
 
תָּ֝בִ֗ין [2] Revi'i Mugrash
וְֽלֹא־עִמָּ֥נוּ הֽוּא׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 9 What do you know [3]
that we don’t know - [2]
 
do you understand [2]
that we don't have? [1]
10 גַּם־שָׂ֣ב גַּם־יָשִׁ֣ישׁ [3] VDechi
בָּ֑נוּ [2] Etnachta
 
כַּבִּ֖יר מֵאָבִ֣יךָ [2] VRevMug
יָמִֽים׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 10 Both the gray-haired and the aged [3]
are among us; [2]
 
older than your father [2]
in days. [1]
11 הַמְעַ֣ט מִ֭מְּךָ [3] Dechi
תַּנְחוּמ֣וֹת אֵ֑ל [2] Etnachta
 
וְ֝דָבָ֗ר [2] Revi'i Mugrash
לָאַ֥ט עִמָּֽךְ׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 11 Too small for you [3]
are the consolations of God? [2]
 
Or a word [2]
of gentleness toward you? [1]
12 מַה־יִּקָּחֲךָ֥ לִבֶּ֑ךָ [2] Etnachta
 
וּֽמַה־יִּרְזְמ֥וּן עֵינֶֽיךָ׃ [1] Silluq
2 12 Why does your heart carry you away; [2]
 
and why do your eyes flash, [1]
13 כִּֽי־תָשִׁ֣יב אֶל־אֵ֣ל [3] VDechi
רוּחֶ֑ךָ [2] Etnachta
 
וְהֹצֵ֖אתָ מִפִּ֣יךָ [2] VRevMug
מִלִּֽין׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 13 that you turn against God [3]
your spirit; [2]
 
and bring out from your mouth [2]
(such) words? [1]
14 מָה־אֱנ֥וֹשׁ כִּֽי־יִזְכֶּ֑ה [2] Etnachta
 
וְכִי־יִ֝צְדַּ֗ק [2] Revi'i Mugrash
יְל֣וּד אִשָּֽׁה׃ [1] Silluq
2 2 14 What is man that he could be pure; [2]
 
or that he could be righteous, [2]
one born of woman? [1]
15 הֵ֣ן בִּ֭קְדֹשָׁו [3] Dechi
לֹ֣א יַאֲמִ֑ין [2] Etnachta
 
וְ֝שָׁמַ֗יִם [2] Revi'i Mugrash
לֹא־זַכּ֥וּ בְעֵינָֽיו׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 15 Behold, in his holy ones [3]
he puts no trust; [2]
 
and the heavens, [2]
not pure are they in his sight, [1]
16 אַ֭ף [3] Dechi
כִּי־נִתְעָ֥ב וְֽנֶאֱלָ֑ח [2] Etnachta
 
אִישׁ־שֹׁתֶ֖ה כַמַּ֣יִם [2] VRevMug
עַוְלָֽה׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 16 how much less [3]
one who is abominable and corrupt; [2]
 
a person who drinks like water, [2]
unrighteousness. [1]
17 אֲחַוְךָ֥ שְֽׁמַֽע־לִ֑י [2] Etnachta
 
וְזֶֽה־חָ֝זִ֗יתִי [2] Revi'i Mugrash
וַאֲסַפֵּֽרָה׃ [1] Silluq
2 2 17 “I will show you, listen to me; [2]
 
and what I have seen, [2]
I will declare, [1]
18 אֲשֶׁר־חֲכָמִ֥ים יַגִּ֑ידוּ [2] Etnachta
 
וְלֹ֥א כִ֝חֲד֗וּ [2] Revi'i Mugrash
מֵאֲבוֹתָֽם׃ [1] Silluq
2 2 18 which the wise have told; [2]
 
and they have not hidden [2]
what is from their ancestors, [1]
19 לָהֶ֣ם לְ֭בַדָּם [3] Dechi
נִתְּנָ֣ה הָאָ֑רֶץ [2] Etnachta
 
וְלֹא־עָ֖בַר זָ֣ר [2] VRevMug
בְּתוֹכָֽם׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 19 to whom alone [3]
was the land given; [2]
 
when no stranger passed [2]
among them. [1]
20 כׇּל־יְמֵ֣י רָ֭שָׁע [3] Dechi
ה֣וּא מִתְחוֹלֵ֑ל [2] Etnachta
 
וּמִסְפַּ֥ר שָׁ֝נִ֗ים [2] Revi'i Mugrash
נִצְפְּנ֥וּ לֶעָרִֽיץ׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 20 All the days of the wicked [3]
he writhes in pain; [2]
 
and numbered are the years [2]
stored up for the ruthless. [1]
21 קוֹל־פְּחָדִ֥ים בְּאׇזְנָ֑יו [2] Etnachta
 
בַּ֝שָּׁל֗וֹם [2] Revi'i Mugrash
שׁוֹדֵ֥ד יְבוֹאֶֽנּוּ׃ [1] Silluq
2 2 21 A sound of terrors is in his ears; [2]
 
in prosperity [2]
does a destroyer come upon him. [1]
22 לֹא־יַאֲמִ֣ין שׁ֭וּב [3] Dechi
מִנִּי־חֹ֑שֶׁךְ [2] Etnachta
 
*וצפו **וְצָפ֖וּי ה֣וּא [2] VRevMug
אֱלֵי־חָֽרֶב׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 22 He doesn’t expect to return [3]
from darkness; [2]
 
and destined is he [2]
for the sword. [1]
23 נֹ֘דֵ֤ד ה֣וּא לַלֶּ֣חֶם [3] VDechi
אַיֵּ֑ה [2] Etnachta
 
יָדַ֓ע ׀ [2] ShalsheletG
כִּי־נָכ֖וֹן בְּיָד֣וֹ [2] VRevMug
יֽוֹם־חֹֽשֶׁךְ׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 2 23 He wanders about for bread - [3]
‘Where is it?’ [2]
 
He knows [2]
that ready at his hand [2]
is a day of darkness. [1]
24 יְֽ֭בַעֲתֻהוּ [3] Dechi
צַ֣ר וּמְצוּקָ֑ה [2] Etnachta
 
תִּ֝תְקְפֵ֗הוּ [2] Revi'i Mugrash
כְּמֶ֤לֶךְ ׀ [4/2] Mahpakh Legarmeh
עָתִ֬יד לַכִּידֽוֹר׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 2 24 They terrify him, [3]
distress and anguish; [2]
 
they overpower him [2]
like a king [4/2]
ready for battle. [1]
25 כִּֽי־נָטָ֣ה אֶל־אֵ֣ל [3] VDechi
יָד֑וֹ [2] Etnachta
 
וְאֶל־שַׁ֝דַּ֗י [2] Revi'i Mugrash
יִתְגַּבָּֽר׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 25 Because he has stretched out against God [3]
his hand; [2]
 
and against the Almighty [2]
he behaves proudly, [1]
26 יָר֣וּץ אֵלָ֣יו [3] VDechi
בְּצַוָּ֑אר [2] Etnachta
 
בַּ֝עֲבִ֗י [2] Revi'i Mugrash
גַּבֵּ֥י מָגִנָּֽיו׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 26 he runs against him [3]
with a stiff neck; [2]
 
with the thick [2]
boss of his shield, [1]
27 כִּֽי־כִסָּ֣ה פָנָ֣יו [3] VDechi
בְּחֶלְבּ֑וֹ [2] Etnachta
 
וַיַּ֖עַשׂ פִּימָ֣ה [2] VRevMug
עֲלֵי־כָֽסֶל׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 27 for he has covered his face [3]
with his fat; [2]
 
and he has gathered fat [2]
on (his) thighs. [1]
28 וַיִּשְׁכּ֤וֹן ׀ [4] Mahpakh Legarmeh
עָ֘רִ֤ים נִכְחָד֗וֹת [3] Revi'i
 
בָּ֭תִּים [3] Dechi
לֹא־יֵ֣שְׁבוּ לָ֑מוֹ [2] Etnachta
 
אֲשֶׁ֖ר הִתְעַתְּד֣וּ [2] VRevMug
לְגַלִּֽים׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 4 3 2 28 And he has lived [4]
in ruined cities, [3]
 
houses [3]
which no one inhabits; [2]
 
which are ready [2]
to crumble into heaps. [1]
29 לֹֽא־יֶ֭עְשַׁר [3] Dechi
וְלֹא־יָק֣וּם חֵיל֑וֹ [2] Etnachta
 
וְלֹא־יִטֶּ֖ה לָאָ֣רֶץ [2] VRevMug
מִנְלָֽם׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 29 He will not be rich [3]
and his wealth will not endure; [2]
 
and he will not stretch out on earth [2]
their continuance. [1]
30 לֹֽא־יָס֨וּר ׀ [4] Azla Legarmeh
מִנִּי־חֹ֗שֶׁךְ [3] Revi'i
 
יֹ֭נַקְתּוֹ [3] Dechi
תְּיַבֵּ֣שׁ שַׁלְהָ֑בֶת [2] Etnachta
 
וְ֝יָס֗וּר [2] Revi'i Mugrash
בְּר֣וּחַ פִּֽיו׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 4 3 2 30 He will not escape [4]
from darkness, [3]
 
his shoots, [3]
a flame will dry up; [2]
 
and he will depart [2]
by the breath of His mouth. [1]
31 אַל־יַאֲמֵ֣ן בַּשָּׁ֣ו [3] VDechi
נִתְעָ֑ה [2] Etnachta
 
כִּי־שָׁ֝֗וְא [2] Revi'i Mugrash
תִּהְיֶ֥ה תְמוּרָתֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 31 Let him not trust in emptiness, [3]
leading himself astray; [2]
 
for emptiness, [2]
it will be his reward. [1]
32 בְּֽלֹא־י֭וֹמוֹ [3] Dechi
תִּמָּלֵ֑א [2] Etnachta
 
וְ֝כִפָּת֗וֹ [2] Revi'i Mugrash
לֹ֣א רַעֲנָֽנָה׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 32 Not in his day [3]
will it be completed; [2]
 
and his branch, [2]
it will not be green. [1]
33 יַחְמֹ֣ס כַּגֶּ֣פֶן [3] VDechi
בִּסְר֑וֹ [2] Etnachta
 
וְיַשְׁלֵ֥ךְ כַּ֝זַּ֗יִת [2] Revi'i Mugrash
נִצָּתֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 33 He will shake off like a vine [3]
his unripe grapes; [2]
 
and he will cast off like an olive tree [2]
his blossoms. [1]
34 כִּֽי־עֲדַ֣ת חָנֵ֣ף [3] VDechi
גַּלְמ֑וּד [2] Etnachta
 
וְ֝אֵ֗שׁ [2] Revi'i Mugrash
אָכְלָ֥ה אׇהֳלֵי־שֹֽׁחַד׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 34 For the company of the godless [3]
is barren; [2]
 
and fire, [2]
it consumes the tents of a bribe. [1]
35 הָרֹ֣ה עָ֭מָל [3] Dechi
וְיָ֣לֹֽד אָ֑וֶן [2] Etnachta
 
וּ֝בִטְנָ֗ם [2] Revi'i Mugrash
תָּכִ֥ין מִרְמָֽה׃ [1] Silluq

2 3 2 35 They conceive trouble [3]
and they give birth to wickedness; [2]
 
and their heart, [2]
it prepares deceit.” [1]
