1 וַיְהִ֣י כַאֲשֶׁ֣ר נִשְׁמַ֣ע לְסַנְבַלַּ֣ט וְ֠טוֹבִיָּ֠ה [4] Munach Munach Munach Munach TelishaG
וּלְגֶ֨שֶׁם הָֽעַרְבִ֜י [4] Qadma Geresh
וּלְיֶ֣תֶר אֹֽיְבֵ֗ינוּ [3] Munach Revi'a
 
כִּ֤י בָנִ֙יתִי֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta
אֶת־הַ֣חוֹמָ֔ה [2] Munach Zaqef
 
וְלֹא־נ֥וֹתַר בָּ֖הּ [2] Merkha Tip'cha
פָּ֑רֶץ [1] Etnachta
 
גַּ֚ם [3] Yetiv
עַד־הָעֵ֣ת הַהִ֔יא [2] Munach Zaqef
 
דְּלָת֖וֹת [2] Tip'cha
לֹא־הֶעֱמַ֥דְתִּי בַשְּׁעָרִֽים׃ [1] Merkha Silluq

and by Geshem the Arab [4]
and by the rest of our enemies, [3]
 
that I had rebuilt [3]
the wall, [2]
 
and there was not left in it [2]
a breach; [1]

up to that time [2]
 
the doors [2]
I had not set up in the gates, [1]
2 וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח סַנְבַלַּ֤ט וְגֶ֙שֶׁם֙ [3] Qadma Mapakh Pashta

לְכָ֞ה [4] Gershayim
וְנִֽוָּעֲדָ֥ה יַחְדָּ֛ו [3] Merkha Tevir
בַּכְּפִירִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
בְּבִקְעַ֣ת אוֹנ֑וֹ [1] Munach Etnachta
 
וְהֵ֙מָּה֙ [3] Pashta
חֹֽשְׁבִ֔ים [2] Zaqef
 
לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת לִ֖י [2] Merkha Tip'cha
רָעָֽה׃ [1] Silluq

to me saying, [2]
 
“Come [4]
and let us meet together [3]
at the villages [2]
in the plain of Ono.” [1]
 
But they [3]
were planning [2]
 
to do me [2]
harm. [1]
3 וָאֶשְׁלְחָ֨ה עֲלֵיהֶ֤ם מַלְאָכִים֙ [3] Qadma Mapakh Pashta
לֵאמֹ֔ר [2] Zaqef
 
מְלָאכָ֤ה גְדוֹלָה֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta
אֲנִ֣י עֹשֶׂ֔ה [2] Munach Zaqef
 
וְלֹ֥א אוּכַ֖ל [2] Merkha Tip'cha
לָרֶ֑דֶת [1] Etnachta
 
לָ֣מָּה תִשְׁבַּ֤ת הַמְּלָאכָה֙ [3] Munach Mapakh Pashta
כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר אַרְפֶּ֔הָ [2] Munach Zaqef
 
וְיָרַדְתִּ֖י [2] Tip'cha
אֲלֵיכֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq

“An important work [3]
I am doing, [2]
 
so I cannot [2]
come down. [1]
 
Why should the work stop [3]
while I leave it [2]
 
and come down [2]
to you?” [1]
4 וַיִּשְׁלְח֥וּ אֵלַ֛י [3] Merkha Tevir
כַּדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּ֖ה [2] Merkha Tip'cha
אַרְבַּ֣ע פְּעָמִ֑ים [1] Munach Etnachta
 
וָאָשִׁ֥יב אוֹתָ֖ם [2] Merkha Tip'cha
כַּדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּֽה׃ [1] Merkha Silluq

in this way [2]
four times; [1]
 
and I answered them [2]
in the same way. [1]
5 וַיִּשְׁלַח֩ אֵלַ֨י סַנְבַלַּ֜ט [4] TelishaQ Qadma Geresh
כַּדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּ֛ה [3] Merkha Tevir
פַּ֥עַם חֲמִישִׁ֖ית [2] Merkha Tip'cha
אֶֽת־נַעֲר֑וֹ [1] Etnachta
 
וְאִגֶּ֥רֶת פְּתוּחָ֖ה [2] Merkha Tip'cha
בְּיָדֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq

in the same way [3]
a fifth time, [2]
his servant; [1]
 
with an open letter [2]
in his hand. [1]
6 כָּת֣וּב בָּ֗הּ [3] Munach Revi'a
בַּגּוֹיִ֤ם נִשְׁמָע֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta
וְגַשְׁמ֣וּ אֹמֵ֔ר [2] Munach Zaqef
 
אַתָּ֤ה וְהַיְּהוּדִים֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta
חֹשְׁבִ֣ים לִמְר֔וֹד [2] Munach Zaqef
 
עַל־כֵּ֛ן [3] Tevir
אַתָּ֥ה בוֹנֶ֖ה [2] Merkha Tip'cha
הַחוֹמָ֑ה [1] Etnachta
 
וְאַתָּ֗ה [3] Revi'a
הֹוֶ֤ה לָהֶם֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta
לְמֶ֔לֶךְ [2] Zaqef
 
כַּדְּבָרִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
הָאֵֽלֶּה׃ [1] Silluq

“It has been heard among the nations, [3]
and Gashmu is saying, [2]
 
you and the Jews [3]
are planning to rebel, [2]
 
therefore [3]
you are rebuilding [2]
the wall; [1]
 
and you [3]
are to become to them [3]
king, [2]
 
according to the reports, [2]
these. [1]
7 וְגַם־נְבִיאִ֡ים [4] Pazer
הֶעֱמַ֣דְתָּ לִקְרֹא֩ עָלֶ֨יךָ בִֽירוּשָׁלַ֜͏ִם [4] Munach TelishaQ Qadma Geresh
לֵאמֹ֗ר [3] Revi'a
 
מֶ֚לֶךְ [3] Yetiv
בִּֽיהוּדָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
וְעַתָּה֙ [3] Pashta
יִשָּׁמַ֣ע לַמֶּ֔לֶךְ [2] Munach Zaqef
 
כַּדְּבָרִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
הָאֵ֑לֶּה [1] Etnachta
 
וְעַתָּ֣ה לְכָ֔ה [2] Munach Zaqef
וְנִֽוָּעֲצָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
יַחְדָּֽו׃ [1] Silluq

you have appointed to proclaim about you in Jerusalem [4]
saying, [3]
 
‘A king [3]
is in Judah!’ [2]
 
So now [3]
it will be heard by the king, [2]
 
according to the reports, [2]
these; [1]
 
so come [2]
and let us take counsel [2]
together.” [1]
8 וָאֶשְׁלְחָ֤ה אֵלָיו֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta
לֵאמֹ֔ר [2] Zaqef
 
לֹ֤א נִֽהְיָה֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta
כַּדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה [2] Munach Zaqef
 
אֲשֶׁ֖ר [2] Tip'cha
אַתָּ֣ה אוֹמֵ֑ר [1] Munach Etnachta
 
כִּ֥י מִֽלִּבְּךָ֖ [2] Merkha Tip'cha
אַתָּ֥ה בוֹדָֽאם׃ [1] Merkha Silluq

saying, [2]
 
“Nothing is happening [3]
like these things [2]
 
that [2]
you are saying; [1]
 
but from your own heart [2]
you are devising them.” [1]
9 כִּ֣י כֻלָּ֗ם [3] Munach Revi'a
מְיָֽרְאִ֤ים אוֹתָ֙נוּ֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta
לֵאמֹ֔ר [2] Zaqef
 
יִרְפּ֧וּ יְדֵיהֶ֛ם [3] Darga Tevir
מִן־הַמְּלָאכָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
וְלֹ֣א תֵעָשֶׂ֑ה [1] Munach Etnachta
 
וְעַתָּ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
חַזֵּ֥ק אֶת־יָדָֽי׃ [1] Merkha Silluq

wanted to frighten us [3]
thinking, [2]
 
“Their hands will drop [3]
from the work, [2]
and it will not be done.” [1]
 
So now, [2]
strengthen my hands! [1]
10 וַאֲנִי־בָ֗אתִי [3] Revi'a
בֵּ֣ית שְֽׁמַֽעְיָ֧ה בֶן־דְּלָיָ֛ה [3] Munach Darga Tevir
בֶּן־מְהֵֽיטַבְאֵ֖ל [2] Tip'cha
וְה֣וּא עָצ֑וּר [1] Munach Etnachta
 
וַיֹּ֡אמֶר [4] Pazer
נִוָּעֵד֩ אֶל־בֵּ֨ית הָאֱלֹהִ֜ים [4] TelishaQ Qadma Geresh
אֶל־תּ֣וֹךְ הַֽהֵיכָ֗ל [3] Munach Revi'a
 
וְנִסְגְּרָה֙ [3] Pashta
דַּלְת֣וֹת הַהֵיכָ֔ל [2] Munach Zaqef
 
כִּ֚י [3] Yetiv
בָּאִ֣ים לְהׇרְגֶ֔ךָ [2] Munach Zaqef
 
וְלַ֖יְלָה [2] Tip'cha
בָּאִ֥ים לְהׇרְגֶֽךָ׃ [1] Merkha Silluq

to the house of Shemaiah son of Delaiah [3]
son of Mehetabel, [2]
who was confined to his home; [1]
 
and he said, [4]
“Let us meet together in the house of God [4]
in the middle of the Temple, [3]
 
and let us shut [3]
the doors of the Temple, [2]
 
for [3]
they are coming to kill you, [2]
 
at night [2]
they are coming to kill you.” [1]
11 וָאֹמְרָ֗ה [3] Revi'a
הַאִ֤ישׁ כָּמ֙וֹנִי֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta
יִבְרָ֔ח [2] Zaqef
 
וּמִ֥י כָמ֛וֹנִי [3] Merkha Tevir
אֲשֶׁר־יָבֹ֥א אֶל־הַהֵיכָ֖ל [2] Merkha Tip'cha
וָחָ֑י [1] Etnachta
 
לֹ֖א [2] Tip'cha
אָבֽוֹא׃ [1] Silluq

“A man like me, [3]
should he flee? [2]
 
And who in my position [3]
could go into the Temple [2]
and live? [1]
 
Not [2]
will I go.” [1]
12 וָאַכִּ֕ירָה [2] ZaqefG
וְהִנֵּ֥ה לֹֽא־אֱלֹהִ֖ים [2] Merkha Tip'cha
שְׁלָח֑וֹ [1] Etnachta
 
כִּ֤י הַנְּבוּאָה֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta
דִּבֶּ֣ר עָלַ֔י [2] Munach Zaqef
 
וְטוֹבִיָּ֥ה וְסַנְבַלַּ֖ט [2] Merkha Tip'cha
שְׂכָרֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 2 3 2 12 And I recognized [2]
that behold it was not God [2]
who had sent him; [1]
 
for the prophecy [3]
he had spoken against me, [2]
 
because Tobiah and Sanballat, [2]
he had hired him. [1]
13 לְמַ֤עַן שָׂכוּר֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta
ה֔וּא [2] Zaqef
 
לְמַֽעַן־אִירָ֥א וְאֶֽעֱשֶׂה־כֵּ֖ן [2] Merkha Tip'cha
וְחָטָ֑אתִי [1] Etnachta
 
וְהָיָ֤ה לָהֶם֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta
לְשֵׁ֣ם רָ֔ע [2] Munach Zaqef
 
לְמַ֖עַן [2] Tip'cha
יְחָֽרְפֽוּנִי׃ [1] Silluq

was he, [2]
 
that I would be afraid and I would do this [2]
and I would sin; [1]
 
that it would become for them [3]
a bad name [2]
 
so that [2]
they might discredit me. [1]
14 זׇכְרָ֧ה אֱלֹהַ֛י [3] Darga Tevir
לְטוֹבִיָּ֥ה וּלְסַנְבַלַּ֖ט [2] Merkha Tip'cha
כְּמַעֲשָׂ֣יו אֵ֑לֶּה [1] Munach Etnachta
 
וְגַ֨ם לְנוֹעַדְיָ֤ה הַנְּבִיאָה֙ [3] Qadma Mapakh Pashta
וּלְיֶ֣תֶר הַנְּבִיאִ֔ים [2] Munach Zaqef
 
אֲשֶׁ֥ר הָי֖וּ [2] Merkha Tip'cha
מְיָֽרְאִ֥ים אוֹתִֽי׃ [1] Merkha Silluq

Tobiah and Sanballat, [2]
according to these works of theirs; [1]
 
and also Noadiah the prophetess [3]
and the rest of the prophets [2]
 
who wanted to [2]
make me afraid.” [1]

הַֽחוֹמָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
בְּעֶשְׂרִ֥ים וַחֲמִשָּׁ֖ה [2] Merkha Tip'cha
לֶאֱל֑וּל [1] Etnachta
 
לַחֲמִשִּׁ֥ים וּשְׁנַ֖יִם [2] Merkha Tip'cha
יֽוֹם׃ [1] Silluq

the wall, [2]
 
on day twenty and five [2]
of Elul; [1]
 
in fifty and two [2]

16 וַיְהִ֗י [3] Revi'a
כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר שָֽׁמְעוּ֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta
כׇּל־א֣וֹיְבֵ֔ינוּ [2] Munach Zaqef
 
וַיִּֽרְא֗וּ [3] Revi'a
כׇּל־הַגּוֹיִם֙ [3] Pashta
אֲשֶׁ֣ר סְבִֽיבֹתֵ֔ינוּ [2] Munach Zaqef
 
וַיִּפְּל֥וּ מְאֹ֖ד [2] Merkha Tip'cha
בְּעֵינֵיהֶ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
וַיֵּ֣דְע֔וּ [2] Munach Zaqef
 
כִּ֚י [3] Yetiv
מֵאֵ֣ת אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ [2] Munach Zaqef
 
נֶעֶשְׂתָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
הַמְּלָאכָ֥ה הַזֹּֽאת׃ [1] Merkha Silluq

when they heard, [3]
all our enemies, [2]
 
they were afraid, [3]
all the nations [3]
that were around us, [2]
 
and they fell greatly [2]
in their own eyes; [1]
 
for they realized [2]

by our God [2]
 
it had been accomplished, [2]
this work. [1]

מַרְבִּ֞ים [4] Gershayim
חֹרֵ֤י יְהוּדָה֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta
אִגְּרֹ֣תֵיהֶ֔ם [2] Munach Zaqef
 
הוֹלְכ֖וֹת [2] Tip'cha
עַל־טוֹבִיָּ֑ה [1] Etnachta
 
וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר לְטוֹבִיָּ֖ה [2] Merkha Tip'cha
בָּא֥וֹת אֲלֵיהֶֽם׃ [1] Merkha Silluq

were multiplying [4]
the nobles of Judah [3]
their letters, [2]
 
which went [2]
to Tobiah; [1]
 
and those of Tobiah [2]
came to them. [1]
18 כִּי־רַבִּ֣ים בִּֽיהוּדָ֗ה [3] Munach Revi'a
בַּעֲלֵ֤י שְׁבוּעָה֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta
ל֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
 
כִּי־חָתָ֥ן ה֖וּא [2] Merkha Tip'cha
לִשְׁכַנְיָ֣ה בֶן־אָרַ֑ח [1] Munach Etnachta
 
וִֽיהוֹחָנָ֣ן בְּנ֔וֹ [2] Munach Zaqef
לָקַ֕ח [2] ZaqefG
אֶת־בַּת־מְשֻׁלָּ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
בֶּ֥ן בֶּֽרֶכְיָֽה׃ [1] Merkha Silluq

because he was a son-in-law [2]
of Shecaniah son of Arah; [1]
 
and his son Jehohanan, [2]
he had married [2]
the daughter of Meshullam [2]

19 גַּ֣ם טוֹבֹתָ֗יו [3] Munach Revi'a
הָי֤וּ אֹמְרִים֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta
לְפָנַ֔י [2] Zaqef
 
וּדְבָרַ֕י [2] ZaqefG
הָי֥וּ מוֹצִיאִ֖ים [2] Merkha Tip'cha
ל֑וֹ [1] Etnachta
 
אִגְּר֛וֹת [3] Tevir
שָׁלַ֥ח טוֹבִיָּ֖ה [2] Merkha Tip'cha
לְיָֽרְאֵֽנִי׃ [1] Silluq
