ה֥וּא וְאִשְׁתּ֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha
וּשְׁנֵ֥י בָנָֽיו׃ [1] Silluq

Ephrathites, [2]
 
from Bethlehem [2]

and they came to the country of Moab [2]
and they lived there. [1]

וַתִּשָּׁאֵ֥ר הִ֖יא [2] Tip'cha
וּשְׁנֵ֥י בָנֶֽיהָ׃ [1] Silluq

the husband of Naomi; [1]
 
and she was left, she [2]
and her two sons. [1]
4 וַיִּשְׂא֣וּ לָהֶ֗ם [3] Revi'i
נָשִׁים֙ [3] Pashta
מֹֽאֲבִיּ֔וֹת [2] Zaqef
 
שֵׁ֤ם הָאַחַת֙ [3] Pashta
עׇרְפָּ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
וְשֵׁ֥ם הַשֵּׁנִ֖ית [2] Tip'cha
ר֑וּת [1] Etnachta
 
וַיֵּ֥שְׁבוּ שָׁ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
כְּעֶ֥שֶׂר שָׁנִֽים׃ [1] Silluq

who were Moabites, [2]
 
the name of the one [3]
was Orpah, [2]
 
and the name of the second [2]
was Ruth; [1]
 
and they lived there [2]
about ten years. [1]
5 וַיָּמֻ֥תוּ גַם־שְׁנֵיהֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
מַחְל֣וֹן וְכִלְי֑וֹן [1] Etnachta
 
וַתִּשָּׁאֵר֙ [3] Pashta
הָֽאִשָּׁ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
מִשְּׁנֵ֥י יְלָדֶ֖יהָ [2] Tip'cha
וּמֵאִישָֽׁהּ׃ [1] Silluq

Mahlon and Chilion; [1]
 
and she was bereaved, [3]
the woman, [2]
 
of both her children [2]
and of her husband. [1]
6 וַתָּ֤קׇם הִיא֙ [3] Pashta
וְכַלֹּתֶ֔יהָ [2] Zaqef
 
וַתָּ֖שׇׁב [2] Tip'cha
מִשְּׂדֵ֣י מוֹאָ֑ב [1] Etnachta
 
כִּ֤י שָֽׁמְעָה֙ [3] Pashta
בִּשְׂדֵ֣ה מוֹאָ֔ב [2] Zaqef
 
כִּֽי־פָקַ֤ד יְהֹוָה֙ [3] Pashta
אֶת־עַמּ֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
 
לָתֵ֥ת לָהֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
לָֽחֶם׃ [1] Silluq

and her daughters-in-law, [2]
 
and she returned [2]
from the country of Moab; [1]
 
for she had heard [3]
in the country of Moab [2]
 
that the LORD had visited [3]
his people [2]
 
by giving them [2]
bread. [1]
7 וַתֵּצֵ֗א [3] Revi'i
מִן־הַמָּקוֹם֙ [3] Pashta
אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָֽיְתָה־שָּׁ֔מָּה [2] Zaqef
 
וּשְׁתֵּ֥י כַלּוֹתֶ֖יהָ [2] Tip'cha
עִמָּ֑הּ [1] Etnachta
 
וַתֵּלַ֣כְנָה בַדֶּ֔רֶךְ [2] Zaqef
לָשׁ֖וּב [2] Tip'cha
אֶל־אֶ֥רֶץ יְהוּדָֽה׃ [1] Silluq

from the place [3]
where she had been, [2]
 
and her two daughters-in-law [2]
with her; [1]
 
and they went on the way [2]
to return [2]
to the land of Judah. [1]
8 וַתֹּ֤אמֶר נׇעֳמִי֙ [3] Pashta
לִשְׁתֵּ֣י כַלֹּתֶ֔יהָ [2] Zaqef
 
לֵ֣כְנָה שֹּׁ֔בְנָה [2] Zaqef
אִשָּׁ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
לְבֵ֣ית אִמָּ֑הּ [1] Etnachta
 
*יעשה **יַ֣עַשׂ יְהֹוָ֤ה עִמָּכֶם֙ [3] Pashta
חֶ֔סֶד [2] Zaqef
 
כַּאֲשֶׁ֧ר עֲשִׂיתֶ֛ם [3] Tevir
עִם־הַמֵּתִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
וְעִמָּדִֽי׃ [1] Silluq

to her two daughters-in-law, [2]
 
“Go, return [2]
each of you [2]
to the house of her mother. [1]
 
May the LORD deal with you [3]
kindly, [2]
 
just as you have dealt [3]
with the dead [2]
and with me. [1]
9 יִתֵּ֤ן יְהֹוָה֙ [3] Pashta
לָכֶ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
וּמְצֶ֣אןָ מְנוּחָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
אִשָּׁ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
בֵּ֣ית אִישָׁ֑הּ [1] Etnachta
 
וַתִּשַּׁ֣ק לָהֶ֔ן [2] Zaqef
וַתִּשֶּׂ֥אנָה קוֹלָ֖ן [2] Tip'cha
וַתִּבְכֶּֽינָה׃ [1] Silluq

to you [2]
 
that will find rest, [2]
each of you [2]
in the house of her husband.” [1]
 
Then she kissed them, [2]
and they lifted up their voices [2]
and they wept. [1]
10 וַתֹּאמַ֖רְנָה־לָּ֑הּ [2 1] Etnachta
 
כִּֽי־אִתָּ֥ךְ נָשׁ֖וּב [2] Tip'cha
לְעַמֵּֽךְ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 10 And they said to her; [2 1]
 
“No, but we will return with you [2]
to your people.” [1]
11 וַתֹּ֤אמֶר נׇעֳמִי֙ [3] Pashta
שֹׁ֣בְנָה בְנֹתַ֔י [2] Zaqef
 
לָ֥מָּה תֵלַ֖כְנָה [2] Tip'cha
עִמִּ֑י [1] Etnachta
 
הַֽעֽוֹד־לִ֤י בָנִים֙ [3] Pashta
בְּֽמֵעַ֔י [2] Zaqef
 
וְהָי֥וּ לָכֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
לַאֲנָשִֽׁים׃ [1] Silluq

“Go back, my daughters. [2]
 
Why would you go [2]
with me? [1]
 
Do I still have sons [3]
in my womb, [2]
 
that they may be for you [2]
husbands? [1]

כִּ֥י זָקַ֖נְתִּי [2] Tip'cha
מִהְי֣וֹת לְאִ֑ישׁ [1] Etnachta

יֶשׁ־לִ֣י תִקְוָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
גַּ֣ם הָיִ֤יתִי הַלַּ֙יְלָה֙ [3 3] Pashta
לְאִ֔ישׁ [2] Zaqef
 
וְגַ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
יָלַ֥דְתִּי בָנִֽים׃ [1] Silluq

for I am too old [2]
to have a husband. [1]

‘I have hope,’ [2]

לְבִלְתִּ֖י [2] Tip'cha
הֱי֣וֹת לְאִ֑ישׁ [1] Etnachta
 
אַ֣ל בְּנֹתַ֗י [3] Revi'i
כִּֽי־מַר־לִ֤י מְאֹד֙ [3] Pashta
מִכֶּ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
כִּֽי־יָצְאָ֥ה בִ֖י [2] Tip'cha
יַד־יְהֹוָֽה׃ [1] Silluq

וַתִּשַּׁ֤ק עׇרְפָּה֙ [3] Pashta
לַחֲמוֹתָ֔הּ [2] Zaqef
 
וְר֖וּת [2] Tip'cha
דָּ֥בְקָה בָּֽהּ׃ [1] Silluq

and they wept [2]
again; [1]
 
then Orpah kissed [3]
her mother-in-law, [2]
 
but Ruth, [2]
she clung to her. [1]
15 וַתֹּ֗אמֶר [3] Revi'i
הִנֵּה֙ [3] Pashta
שָׁ֣בָה יְבִמְתֵּ֔ךְ [2] Zaqef
 
אֶל־עַמָּ֖הּ [2] Tip'cha
וְאֶל־אֱלֹהֶ֑יהָ [1] Etnachta
 
שׁ֖וּבִי [2] Tip'cha
אַחֲרֵ֥י יְבִמְתֵּֽךְ׃ [1] Silluq

“Behold [3]
your sister-in-law has returned [2]
 
to her people [2]
and to her gods. [1]
 
Go back [2]
after your sister-in-law.” [1]
16 וַתֹּ֤אמֶר רוּת֙ [3] Pashta
אַל־תִּפְגְּעִי־בִ֔י [2] Zaqef
 
לְעׇזְבֵ֖ךְ [2] Tip'cha
לָשׁ֣וּב מֵאַחֲרָ֑יִךְ [1] Etnachta

אֶל־אֲשֶׁ֨ר תֵּלְכִ֜י [4] Geresh

וּבַאֲשֶׁ֤ר תָּלִ֙ינִי֙ [3 3] Pashta

“Don’t urge me [2]
 
to abandon you, [2]
to turn back from following you; [1]

and your God [2]
my God. [1]
17 בַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר תָּמ֙וּתִי֙ [3 3] Pashta

וְשָׁ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
אֶקָּבֵ֑ר [1] Etnachta
 
כֹּה֩ יַעֲשֶׂ֨ה יְהֹוָ֥ה לִי֙ [3] Pashta
וְכֹ֣ה יוֹסִ֔יף [2] Zaqef
 
כִּ֣י הַמָּ֔וֶת [2] Zaqef
יַפְרִ֖יד [2] Tip'cha
בֵּינִ֥י וּבֵינֵֽךְ׃ [1] Silluq

I will die, [2]
 
and there [2]
I will be buried. [1]
 
May The LORD do so to me [3]
and more also, [2]
 
if anything but death, [2]
it separates [2]
you and me.” [1]

לָלֶ֣כֶת אִתָּ֑הּ [1] Etnachta
 
וַתֶּחְדַּ֖ל [2] Tip'cha
לְדַבֵּ֥ר אֵלֶֽיהָ׃ [1] Silluq

that she was determined [2]
to go with her; [1]
 
she stopped [2]
urging her. [1]
19 וַתֵּלַ֣כְנָה שְׁתֵּיהֶ֔ם [2] Zaqef
עַד־בּוֹאָ֖נָה [2] Tip'cha
בֵּ֣ית לָ֑חֶם [1] Etnachta
 
וַיְהִ֗י [3] Revi'i
כְּבוֹאָ֙נָה֙ [3 3] Pashta
בֵּ֣ית לֶ֔חֶם [2] Zaqef
 
וַתֵּהֹ֤ם כׇּל־הָעִיר֙ [3] Pashta
עֲלֵיהֶ֔ן [2] Zaqef
 
וַתֹּאמַ֖רְנָה [2] Tip'cha
הֲזֹ֥את נׇעֳמִֽי׃ [1] Silluq

until they came [2]
to Bethlehem; [1]
 
and when [3]
they had come [3 3]
to Bethlehem, [2]
 
all the city was excited [3]
about them, [2]
 
and they asked, [2]
“Is this Naomi?” [1]
20 וַתֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵיהֶ֔ן [2] Zaqef
אַל־תִּקְרֶ֥אנָה לִ֖י [2] Tip'cha
נׇעֳמִ֑י [1] Etnachta
 
קְרֶ֤אןָ לִי֙ [3] Pashta
מָרָ֔א [2] Zaqef
 
כִּי־הֵמַ֥ר שַׁדַּ֛י [3] Tevir
לִ֖י [2] Tip'cha
מְאֹֽד׃ [1] Silluq

“Don’t call me [2]
Naomi. [1]
 
Call me [3]
Mara, [2]
 
for the Almighty has dealt bitterly [3]
with me [2]
very. [1]

מְלֵאָ֣ה הָלַ֔כְתִּי [2] Zaqef
 
וְרֵיקָ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
הֱשִׁיבַ֣נִי יְהֹוָ֑ה [1] Etnachta
 
לָ֣מָּה תִקְרֶ֤אנָה לִי֙ [3] Pashta

וַֽיהֹוָה֙ [3] Pashta

the LORD has brought me back. [1]

הַשָּׁ֖בָה [2] Tip'cha
