1 The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel, [3] |

2 לָדַ֣עַת חָכְמָ֣ה [3] VDechi וּמוּסָ֑ר [2] Etnachta אִמְרֵ֥י בִינָֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
2 to know wisdom and instruction; to discern the words of understanding, [3] |
|||
3 לָ֭קַחַת [3] Dechi מוּסַ֣ר הַשְׂכֵּ֑ל [2] Etnachta וּמֵישָׁרִֽים׃ [1] Silluq |
3 to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity, [3] |
|||
4 לָתֵ֣ת לִפְתָאיִ֣ם [3] VDechi עָרְמָ֑ה [2] Etnachta דַּ֣עַת וּמְזִמָּֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
4 to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young man, [3] |
|||
5 יִשְׁמַ֣ע חָ֭כָם [3] Dechi וְי֣וֹסֶף לֶ֑קַח [2] Etnachta תַּחְבֻּל֥וֹת יִקְנֶֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
5 that the wise man may hear, and increase in learning; that the man of understanding may attain to sound counsel, [3] |

6 לְהָבִ֣ין מָ֭שָׁל [3] Dechi וּמְלִיצָ֑ה [2] Etnachta וְחִידֹתָֽם׃ [1] Silluq |
6 to understand a proverb, and parables, the words and riddles of the wise. [3] |

7 יִרְאַ֣ת יְ֭הוָה [3] Dechi רֵאשִׁ֣ית דָּ֑עַת [2] Etnachta אֱוִילִ֥ים בָּֽזוּ׃ [1] Silluq פ |
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction. [3] |

8 שְׁמַ֣ע בְּ֭נִי [3] Dechi מוּסַ֣ר אָבִ֑יךָ [2] Etnachta תּוֹרַ֥ת אִמֶּֽךָ׃ [1] Silluq |
8 My son, listen to your father’s instruction, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching, [3] |

9 כִּ֤י ׀ [4/3] Mahpakh Legarmeh לִוְיַ֤ת חֵ֓ן הֵ֬ם לְרֹאשֶׁ֑ךָ [2] Etnachta לְגַרְגְּרֹתֶֽיךָ׃ [1] Silluq |
9 for they will be a garland to grace your head, and chains around your neck. [4/3] |

10 בְּנִ֡י [4/3] Pazer אִם־יְפַתּ֥וּךָ חַ֝טָּאִ֗ים [2] Revi'i Mugrash אַל־תֹּבֵֽא׃ [1] Silluq |
10 My son, if sinners entice you, don’t consent. [4/3] |

11 אִם־יֹאמְרוּ֮ [3] Sinnor לְכָ֪ה אִ֫תָּ֥נוּ [2] Ole Veyored נִצְפְּנָ֖ה לְנָקִ֣י [2] VRevMug חִנָּֽם׃ [1] Silluq |
11 If they say, “Come with us. Let’s lay in wait for blood. Let’s lurk secretly for the innocent without cause. [3] |

12 נִ֭בְלָעֵם [3] Dechi כִּשְׁא֣וֹל חַיִּ֑ים [2] Etnachta כְּי֣וֹרְדֵי בֽוֹר׃ [1] Silluq |
12 Let’s swallow them up alive like Sheol, and whole, like those who go down into the pit. [3] |

13 כָּל־ה֣וֹן יָקָ֣ר [3] VDechi נִמְצָ֑א [2] Etnachta שָׁלָֽל׃ [1] Silluq |
13 We’ll find all valuable wealth. We’ll fill our houses with plunder. [3] |
|||
14 גּ֭וֹרָ֣לְךָ [3] Dechi תַּפִּ֣יל בְּתוֹכֵ֑נוּ [2] Etnachta יִהְיֶ֥ה לְכֻלָּֽנוּ׃ [1] Silluq |
14 You shall cast your lot among us. We’ll all have one purse.” [3] |

15 בְּנִ֗י [3] Revi'i אַל־תֵּלֵ֣ךְ בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ [3] VDechi אִתָּ֑ם [2] Etnachta מִנְּתִיבָתָֽם׃ [1] Silluq |
15 My son, don’t walk on the path with them. Keep your foot from their path, [3] |

16 כִּ֣י רַ֭גְלֵיהֶם [3] Dechi לָרַ֣ע יָר֑וּצוּ [2] Etnachta לִשְׁפָּךְ־דָּֽם׃ [1] Silluq |
16 for their feet run to evil. They hurry to shed blood. [3] |
|||
17 כִּֽי־חִ֭נָּם [3] Dechi מְזֹרָ֣ה הָרָ֑שֶׁת [2] Etnachta כָל־בַּ֥עַל כָּנָֽף׃ [1] Silluq |
17 For the net is spread in vain in the sight of any bird, [3] |
|||
18 וְ֭הֵם [3] Dechi לְדָמָ֣ם יֶאֱרֹ֑בוּ [2] Etnachta לְנַפְשֹׁתָֽם׃ [1] Silluq |
18 but these lay in wait for their own blood. They lurk secretly for their own lives. [3] |
|||
19 כֵּ֗ן [3] Revi'i אָ֭רְחוֹת [3] Dechi כָּל־בֹּ֣צֵֽעַ בָּ֑צַע [2] Etnachta יִקָּֽח׃ [1] Silluq פ |
19 So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain. It takes away the life of its owners. [3] |

20 חָ֭כְמוֹת [3] Dechi בַּח֣וּץ תָּרֹ֑נָּה [2] Etnachta תִּתֵּ֥ן קוֹלָֽהּ׃ [1] Silluq |
20 Wisdom calls aloud in the street. She utters her voice in the public squares. [3] |

21 בְּרֹ֥אשׁ הֹמִיּ֗וֹת [3] Revi'i תִּ֫קְרָ֥א [2] Ole Veyored אֲמָרֶ֥יהָ תֹאמֵֽר׃ [1] Silluq |
21 She calls at the head of noisy places. At the entrance of the city gates, she utters her words, [3] |

22 עַד־מָתַ֣י ׀ פְּתָיִם֮ [3] Sinnor תְּֽאֵהֲב֫וּ פֶ֥תִי [2] Ole Veyored לָ֭צוֹן [3] Dechi חָמְד֣וּ לָהֶ֑ם [2] Etnachta יִשְׂנְאוּ־דָֽעַת׃ [1] Silluq |
22 “How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge? [3] |

23 תָּשׁ֗וּבוּ [3] Revi'i לְֽת֫וֹכַחְתִּ֥י [2] Ole Veyored רוּחִ֑י [2] Etnachta אֶתְכֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq |
23 Turn at my reproof. Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you. I will make known my words to you. [3] |

24 יַ֣עַן קָ֭רָאתִי [3] Dechi וַתְּמָאֵ֑נוּ [2] Etnachta וְאֵ֣ין מַקְשִֽׁיב׃ [1] Silluq |
24 Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention, [3] |

25 וַתִּפְרְע֥וּ כָל־עֲצָתִ֑י [2] Etnachta לֹ֣א אֲבִיתֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq |
25 but you have ignored all my counsel, and wanted none of my reproof, [2] |
|||
26 גַּם־אֲ֭נִי [3] Dechi בְּאֵידְכֶ֣ם אֶשְׂחָ֑ק [2] Etnachta בְּבֹ֣א פַחְדְּכֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq |
26 I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you, [3] |

27 בְּבֹ֤א *כשאוה **כְשׁוֹאָ֨ה ׀ [4] Azla Legarmeh פַּחְדְּכֶ֗ם [3] Revi'i כְּסוּפָ֣ה יֶאֱתֶ֑ה [2] Etnachta צָרָ֥ה וְצוּקָֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come on you. [4] |

28 אָ֣ז יִ֭קְרָאֻנְנִי [3] Dechi וְלֹ֣א אֶֽעֱנֶ֑ה [2] Etnachta וְלֹ֣א יִמְצָאֻֽנְנִי׃ [1] Silluq |
28 Then they will call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me, [3] |

29 תַּ֭חַת [3] Dechi כִּי־שָׂ֣נְאוּ דָ֑עַת [2] Etnachta לֹ֣א בָחָֽרוּ׃ [1] Silluq |
29 because they hated knowledge, and didn’t choose the fear of the LORD. [3] |
|||
30 לֹא־אָב֥וּ לַעֲצָתִ֑י [2] Etnachta כָּל־תּוֹכַחְתִּֽי׃ [1] Silluq |
30 They wanted none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof. [2] |
|||
31 וְֽ֭יֹאכְלוּ [3] Dechi מִפְּרִ֣י דַרְכָּ֑ם [2] Etnachta יִשְׂבָּֽעוּ׃ [1] Silluq |
31 Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own schemes. [3] |

32 כִּ֤י מְשׁוּבַ֣ת פְּתָיִ֣ם [3] VDechi תַּֽהַרְגֵ֑ם [2] Etnachta תְּאַבְּדֵֽם׃ [1] Silluq |
32 For the backsliding of the simple will kill them. The careless ease of fools will destroy them. [3] |

33 וְשֹׁמֵ֣עַֽ לִ֭י [3] Dechi יִשְׁכָּן־בֶּ֑טַח [2] Etnachta מִפַּ֥חַד רָעָֽה׃ [1] Silluq פ |
33 But whoever listens to me will dwell securely, and will be at ease, without fear of harm.” ¶ [3] |
