1 כִּֽי־תֵ֭שֵׁב [3] Dechi
לִלְח֣וֹם אֶת־מוֹשֵׁ֑ל [2] Etnachta
 
בִּ֥ין תָּ֝בִ֗ין [2] Revi'i Mugrash
אֶת־אֲשֶׁ֥ר לְפָנֶֽיךָ׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 1 When you sit to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before you, [3]
2 וְשַׂמְתָּ֣ שַׂכִּ֣ין [3] VDechi
בְּלֹעֶ֑ךָ [2] Etnachta
 
אִם־בַּ֖עַל נֶ֣פֶשׁ [2] VRevMug
אָֽתָּה׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 2 put a knife to your throat, if you are a man given to appetite. [3]
3 אַל־תִּ֭תְאָו [3] Dechi
לְמַטְעַמּוֹתָ֑יו [2] Etnachta
 
וְ֝ה֗וּא [2] Revi'i Mugrash
לֶ֣חֶם כְּזָבִֽים׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 3 Don’t be desirous of his dainties, since they are deceitful food. [3]
4 אַל־תִּיגַ֥ע לְֽהַעֲשִׁ֑יר [2] Etnachta
 
מִֽבִּינָתְךָ֥ חֲדָֽל׃ [1] Silluq
2 4 Don’t weary yourself to be rich. In your wisdom, show restraint. [2]
 
5 *התעוף **הֲתָ֤עִיף עֵינֶ֥יךָ בּ֗וֹ [3] Revi'i
וְֽאֵ֫ינֶ֥נּוּ [2] Ole Veyored
 
כִּ֤י עָשֹׂ֣ה יַעֲשֶׂה־לּ֣וֹ [3] VDechi
כְנָפַ֑יִם [2] Etnachta
 
כְּ֝נֶ֗שֶׁר [2] Revi'i Mugrash
*ועיף **יָע֥וּף הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ [1] Silluq

2 3 2 3 2 5 Why do you set your eyes on that which is not? For it certainly sprouts wings like an eagle and flies in the sky. [3]
6 אַל־תִּלְחַ֗ם [3] Revi'i
אֶת־לֶ֭חֶם [3] Dechi
רַ֣ע עָ֑יִן [2] Etnachta
 
וְאַל־*תתאו **תִּ֝תְאָ֗יו [2] Revi'i Mugrash
לְמַטְעַמֹּתָֽיו׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 3 2 6 Don’t eat the food of him who has a stingy eye, and don’t crave his delicacies, [3]
7 כִּ֤י ׀ [4] Mahpakh Legarmeh
כְּמוֹ־שָׁעַ֥ר בְּנַפְשׁ֗וֹ [3] Revi'i
כֶּ֫ן־ה֥וּא [2] Ole Veyored
 
אֱכֹ֣ל וּ֭שְׁתֵה [3] Dechi
יֹ֣אמַר לָ֑ךְ [2] Etnachta
 
וְ֝לִבּ֗וֹ [2] Revi'i Mugrash
בַּל־עִמָּֽךְ׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 4 2 3 2 7 for as he thinks about the cost, so he is. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, but his heart is not with you. [4]
8 פִּֽתְּךָ־אָכַ֥לְתָּ תְקִיאֶ֑נָּה [2] Etnachta
 
וְ֝שִׁחַ֗תָּ [2] Revi'i Mugrash
דְּבָרֶ֥יךָ הַנְּעִימִֽים׃ [1] Silluq
2 2 8 The morsel which you have eaten you shall vomit up, and lose your good words. [2]
 
9 בְּאָזְנֵ֣י כְ֭סִיל [3] Dechi
אַל־תְּדַבֵּ֑ר [2] Etnachta
 
כִּֽי־יָ֝ב֗וּז [2] Revi'i Mugrash
לְשֵׂ֣כֶל מִלֶּֽיךָ׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 9 Don’t speak in the ears of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words. [3]
10 אַל־תַּ֭סֵּג [3] Dechi
גְּב֣וּל עוֹלָ֑ם [2] Etnachta
 
וּבִשְׂדֵ֥י יְ֝תוֹמִ֗ים [2] Revi'i Mugrash
אַל־תָּבֹֽא׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 10 Don’t move the ancient boundary stone. Don’t encroach on the fields of the fatherless, [3]
11 כִּֽי־גֹאֲלָ֥ם חָזָ֑ק [2] Etnachta
 
הֽוּא־יָרִ֖יב אֶת־רִיבָ֣ם [2] VRevMug
אִתָּֽךְ׃ [1] Silluq
2 2 11 for their Defender is strong. He will plead their case against you. [2]
 
12 הָבִ֣יאָה לַמּוּסָ֣ר [3] VDechi
לִבֶּ֑ךָ [2] Etnachta
 
וְ֝אָזְנֶ֗ךָ [2] Revi'i Mugrash
לְאִמְרֵי־דָֽעַת׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 12 Apply your heart to instruction, and your ears to the words of knowledge. [3]
13 אַל־תִּמְנַ֣ע מִנַּ֣עַר [3] VDechi
מוּסָ֑ר [2] Etnachta
 
כִּֽי־תַכֶּ֥נּוּ בַ֝שֵּׁ֗בֶט [2] Revi'i Mugrash
לֹ֣א יָמֽוּת׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 13 Don’t withhold correction from a child. If you punish him with the rod, he will not die. [3]
14 אַ֭תָּה [3] Dechi
בַּשֵּׁ֣בֶט תַּכֶּ֑נּוּ [2] Etnachta
 
וְ֝נַפְשׁ֗וֹ [2] Revi'i Mugrash
מִשְּׁא֥וֹל תַּצִּֽיל׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 14 Punish him with the rod, and save his soul from Sheol. [3]
15 בְּ֭נִי [3] Dechi
אִם־חָכַ֣ם לִבֶּ֑ךָ [2] Etnachta
 
יִשְׂמַ֖ח לִבִּ֣י [2] VRevMug
גַם־אָֽנִי׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 15 My son, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad, even mine. [3]
16 וְתַעְלֹ֥זְנָה כִלְיוֹתָ֑י [2] Etnachta
 
בְּדַבֵּ֥ר שְׂ֝פָתֶ֗יךָ [2] Revi'i Mugrash
מֵישָׁרִֽים׃ [1] Silluq
2 2 16 Yes, my heart will rejoice when your lips speak what is right. [2]
 
17 אַל־יְקַנֵּ֣א לִ֭בְּךָ [3] Dechi
בַּֽחַטָּאִ֑ים [2] Etnachta
 
כִּ֥י אִם־בְּיִרְאַת־יְ֝הוָ֗ה [2] Revi'i Mugrash
כָּל־הַיּֽוֹם׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 17 Don’t let your heart envy sinners, but rather fear the LORD all day long. [3]
18 כִּ֭י [3] Dechi
אִם־יֵ֣שׁ אַחֲרִ֑ית [2] Etnachta
 
וְ֝תִקְוָתְךָ֗ [2] Revi'i Mugrash
לֹ֣א תִכָּרֵֽת׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 18 Indeed surely there is a future hope, and your hope will not be cut off. [3]
19 שְׁמַע־אַתָּ֣ה בְנִ֣י [3] VDechi
וַחֲכָ֑ם [2] Etnachta
 
וְאַשֵּׁ֖ר בַּדֶּ֣רֶךְ [2] VRevMug
לִבֶּֽךָ׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 19 Listen, my son, and be wise, and keep your heart on the right path! [3]
20 אַל־תְּהִ֥י בְסֹֽבְאֵי־יָ֑יִן [2] Etnachta
 
בְּזֹלֲלֵ֖י בָשָׂ֣ר [2] VRevMug
לָֽמוֹ׃ [1] Silluq
2 2 20 Don’t be among ones drinking too much wine, or those who gorge themselves on meat, [2]
 
21 כִּי־סֹבֵ֣א וְ֭זוֹלֵל [3] Dechi
יִוָּרֵ֑שׁ [2] Etnachta
 
וּ֝קְרָעִ֗ים [2] Revi'i Mugrash
תַּלְבִּ֥ישׁ נוּמָֽה׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 21 for the drunkard and the glutton shall become poor; and drowsiness clothes them in rags. [3]
22 שְׁמַ֣ע לְ֭אָבִיךָ [3] Dechi
זֶ֣ה יְלָדֶ֑ךָ [2] Etnachta
 
וְאַל־תָּ֝ב֗וּז [2] Revi'i Mugrash
כִּֽי־זָקְנָ֥ה אִמֶּֽךָ׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 22 Listen to your father who gave you life, and don’t despise your mother when she is old. [3]
23 אֱמֶ֣ת קְ֭נֵה [3] Dechi
וְאַל־תִּמְכֹּ֑ר [2] Etnachta
 
חָכְמָ֖ה וּמוּסָ֣ר [2] VRevMug
וּבִינָֽה׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 23 Buy the truth, and don’t sell it. Get wisdom, discipline, and understanding. [3]
24 *גול **גִּ֣יל *יגול **יָ֭גִיל [3] Dechi
אֲבִ֣י צַדִּ֑יק [2] Etnachta
 
*יולד **וְיוֹלֵ֥ד חָ֝כָ֗ם [2] Revi'i Mugrash
*וישמח־**יִשְׂמַח־בּֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 24 The father of the righteous has great joy. Whoever fathers a wise child delights in him. [3]
25 יִֽשְׂמַח־אָבִ֥יךָ וְאִמֶּ֑ךָ [2] Etnachta
 
וְ֝תָגֵ֗ל [2] Revi'i Mugrash
יֽוֹלַדְתֶּֽךָ׃ [1] Silluq
2 2 25 Let your father and your mother be glad! Let her who bore you rejoice! [2]
 
26 תְּנָֽה־בְנִ֣י לִבְּךָ֣ [3] VDechi
לִ֑י [2] Etnachta
 
וְ֝עֵינֶ֗יךָ [2] Revi'i Mugrash
דְּרָכַ֥י *תרצנה **תִּצֹּֽרְנָה׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 26 My son, give me your heart; and let your eyes keep in my ways. [3]
27 כִּֽי־שׁוּחָ֣ה עֲמֻקָּ֣ה [3] VDechi
זוֹנָ֑ה [2] Etnachta
 
וּבְאֵ֥ר צָ֝רָ֗ה [2] Revi'i Mugrash
נָכְרִיָּֽה׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 27 For a prostitute is a deep pit; and a wayward wife is a narrow well. [3]
28 אַף־הִ֭יא [3] Dechi
כְּחֶ֣תֶף תֶּֽאֱרֹ֑ב [2] Etnachta
 
וּ֝בוֹגְדִ֗ים [2] Revi'i Mugrash
בְּאָדָ֥ם תּוֹסִֽף׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 28 Yes, she lies in wait like a robber, and increases the unfaithful among men. [3]
29 לְמִ֨י א֥וֹי לְמִ֪י אֲב֡וֹי [4] Pazer
לְמִ֤י *מדונים **מִדְיָנִ֨ים ׀ [4] Azla Legarmeh
לְמִ֥י שִׂ֗יחַ [3] Revi'i
 
לְ֭מִי [3] Dechi
פְּצָעִ֣ים חִנָּ֑ם [2] Etnachta
 
לְ֝מִ֗י [2] Revi'i Mugrash
חַכְלִל֥וּת עֵינָֽיִם׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 4 4 3 2 29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? [4]
30 לַֽמְאַחֲרִ֥ים עַל־הַיָּ֑יִן [2] Etnachta
 
לַ֝בָּאִ֗ים [2] Revi'i Mugrash
לַחְקֹ֥ר מִמְסָֽךְ׃ [1] Silluq
2 2 30 Those who stay long at the wine; those who go to seek out mixed wine. [2]
 
31 אַל־תֵּ֥רֶא יַיִן֮ [3] Sinnor
כִּ֪י יִתְאַ֫דָּ֥ם [2] Ole Veyored
 
כִּֽי־יִתֵּ֣ן *בכיס **בַּכּ֣וֹס [3] VDechi
עֵינ֑וֹ [2] Etnachta
 
יִ֝תְהַלֵּ֗ךְ [2] Revi'i Mugrash
בְּמֵישָׁרִֽים׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 3 2 31 Don’t look at the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly. [3]
32 אַ֭חֲרִיתוֹ [3] Dechi
כְּנָחָ֣שׁ יִשָּׁ֑ךְ [2] Etnachta
 
וּֽכְצִפְעֹנִ֥י יַפְרִֽשׁ׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 32 In the end, it bites like a snake, and poisons like a viper. [3]
33 עֵ֭ינֶיךָ [3] Dechi
יִרְא֣וּ זָר֑וֹת [2] Etnachta
 
וְ֝לִבְּךָ֗ [2] Revi'i Mugrash
יְדַבֵּ֥ר תַּהְפֻּכֽוֹת׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 33 Your eyes will see strange things, and your mind will imagine confusing things. [3]
34 וְ֭הָיִיתָ [3] Dechi
כְּשֹׁכֵ֣ב בְּלֶב־יָ֑ם [2] Etnachta
 
וּ֝כְשֹׁכֵ֗ב [2] Revi'i Mugrash
בְּרֹ֣אשׁ חִבֵּֽל׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 34 Yes, you will be as he who lies down in the middle of the sea, or as he who lies on top of the rigging, [3]
35 הִכּ֥וּנִי בַל־חָלִיתִי֮ [3] Sinnor
הֲלָמ֗וּנִי [3] Revi'i
בַּל־יָ֫דָ֥עְתִּי [2] Ole Veyored
 
מָתַ֥י אָקִ֑יץ [2] Etnachta
א֝וֹסִ֗יף [2] Revi'i Mugrash
אֲבַקְשֶׁ֥נּוּ עֽוֹד׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 3 2 2 35 “They hit me, and I was not hurt! They beat me, and I don’t feel it! When will I wake up? I can do it again. I can find another.” ¶ [3]
