1 Listen, sons, to a father’s instruction. Pay attention and know understanding, [3] |

| 2 כִּ֤י לֶ֣קַח ט֭וֹב [3] Dechi נָתַ֣תִּי לָכֶ֑ם [2] Etnachta אַֽל־תַּעֲזֹֽבוּ׃ [1] Silluq |
2 for I give you sound learning. Don’t forsake my law. [3] |

| 3 כִּי־בֵ֭ן [3] Dechi הָיִ֣יתִי לְאָבִ֑י [2] Etnachta לִפְנֵ֥י אִמִּֽי׃ [1] Silluq |
3 For I was a son to my father, tender and an only child in the sight of my mother. [3] |

| 4 וַיֹּרֵ֗נִי [3] Revi'i וַיֹּ֥אמֶר לִ֗י [3] Revi'i יִֽתְמָךְ־דְּבָרַ֥י לִבֶּ֑ךָ [2] Etnachta וֶֽחְיֵֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
4 He taught me, and said to me: “Let your heart retain my words. Keep my commandments, and live. [3] |

| 5 קְנֵ֣ה חָ֭כְמָה [3] Dechi קְנֵ֣ה בִינָ֑ה [2] Etnachta מֵֽאִמְרֵי־פִֽי׃ [1] Silluq |
5 Get wisdom. Get understanding. Don’t forget, and don’t deviate from the words of my mouth. [3] |

6 Don’t forsake her, and she will preserve you. Love her, and she will keep you. [2] |

| 7 רֵאשִׁ֣ית חָ֭כְמָה [3] Dechi קְנֵ֣ה חָכְמָ֑ה [2] Etnachta קְנֵ֣ה בִינָֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
7 Wisdom is supreme. Get wisdom. Yes, though it costs all your possessions, get understanding. [3] |

| 8 סַלְסְלֶ֥הָ וּֽתְרוֹמְמֶ֑ךָּ [2] Etnachta כִּ֣י תְחַבְּקֶֽנָּה׃ [1] Silluq |
8 Esteem her, and she will exalt you. She will bring you to honor when you embrace her. [2] |

| 9 תִּתֵּ֣ן לְ֭רֹאשְׁךָ [3] Dechi לִוְיַת־חֵ֑ן [2] Etnachta תְּמַגְּנֶֽךָּ׃ [1] Silluq |
9 She will give to your head a garland of grace. She will deliver a crown of splendor to you.” [3] |

10 Listen, my son, and receive my sayings. The years of your life will be many. [3] |

| 11 בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ חָ֭כְמָה [3] Dechi הֹרֵתִ֑יךָ [2] Etnachta בְּמַעְגְּלֵי־יֹֽשֶׁר׃ [1] Silluq |
11 I have taught you in the way of wisdom. I have led you in straight paths. [3] |

| 12 בְּֽ֭לֶכְתְּךָ [3] Dechi לֹא־יֵצַ֣ר צַעֲדֶ֑ךָ [2] Etnachta לֹ֣א תִכָּשֵֽׁל׃ [1] Silluq |
12 When you go, your steps will not be hampered. When you run, you will not stumble. [3] |

| 13 הַחֲזֵ֣ק בַּמּוּסָ֣ר [3] VDechi אַל־תֶּ֑רֶף [2] Etnachta כִּי־הִ֥יא חַיֶּֽיךָ׃ [1] Silluq |
13 Take firm hold of instruction. Don’t let her go. Keep her, for she is your life. [3] |

| 14 בְּאֹ֣רַח רְ֭שָׁעִים [3] Dechi אַל־תָּבֹ֑א [2] Etnachta בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ רָעִֽים׃ [1] Silluq |
14 Don’t enter into the path of the wicked. Don’t walk in the way of evil men. [3] |

| 15 פְּרָעֵ֥הוּ אַל־תַּעֲבָר־בּ֑וֹ [2] Etnachta וַעֲבֽוֹר׃ [1] Silluq |
15 Avoid it, and don’t pass by it. Turn from it, and pass on. [2] |

| 16 כִּ֤י לֹ֣א יִֽ֭שְׁנוּ [3] Dechi אִם־לֹ֣א יָרֵ֑עוּ [2] Etnachta אִם־לֹ֥א *יכשולו **יַכְשִֽׁילוּ׃ [1] Silluq |
16 For they don’t sleep unless they do evil. Their sleep is taken away, unless they make someone fall. [3] |

| 17 כִּ֣י לָ֭חֲמוּ [3] Dechi לֶ֣חֶם רֶ֑שַׁע [2] Etnachta יִשְׁתּֽוּ׃ [1] Silluq |
17 For they eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence. [3] |

| 18 וְאֹ֣רַח צַ֭דִּיקִים [3] Dechi כְּא֣וֹר נֹ֑גַהּ [2] Etnachta עַד־נְכ֥וֹן הַיּֽוֹם׃ [1] Silluq |
18 But the path of the righteous is like the dawning light that shines more and more until the perfect day. [3] |

| 19 דֶּ֣רֶךְ רְ֭שָׁעִים [3] Dechi כָּֽאֲפֵלָ֑ה [2] Etnachta בַּמֶּ֥ה יִכָּשֵֽׁלוּ׃ [1] Silluq פ |
19 The way of the wicked is like darkness. They don’t know what they stumble over. [3] |

20 My son, attend to my words. Turn your ear to my sayings. [3] |

| 21 אַל־יַלִּ֥יזוּ מֵעֵינֶ֑יךָ [2] Etnachta בְּת֣וֹךְ לְבָבֶֽךָ׃ [1] Silluq |
21 Let them not depart from your eyes. Keep them in the center of your heart. [2] |

| 22 כִּֽי־חַיִּ֣ים הֵ֭ם [3] Dechi לְמֹצְאֵיהֶ֑ם [2] Etnachta |
22 For they are life to those who find them, and health to their whole body. [3] |

| 23 מִֽכָּל־מִ֭שְׁמָר [3] Dechi נְצֹ֣ר לִבֶּ֑ךָ [2] Etnachta תּוֹצְא֥וֹת חַיִּֽים׃ [1] Silluq |
23 Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life. [3] |

24 Put away from yourself a perverse mouth. Put corrupt lips far from you. [3] |

25 Let your eyes look straight ahead. Fix your gaze directly before you. [3] |

26 Make the path of your feet level. Let all of your ways be established. [3] |

27 Don’t turn to the right hand nor to the left. Remove your foot from evil. ¶ [2] |
