1 בְּ֭נִי [3] Dechi שְׁמֹ֣ר אֲמָרָ֑י [2] Etnachta תִּצְפֹּ֥ן אִתָּֽךְ׃ [1] Silluq |
1 My son, keep my words. Lay up my commandments within you. [3] |

2 שְׁמֹ֣ר מִצְוֺתַ֣י [3] VDechi וֶחְיֵ֑ה [2] Etnachta כְּאִישׁ֥וֹן עֵינֶֽיךָ׃ [1] Silluq |
2 Keep my commandments and live! Guard my teaching as the apple of your eye. [3] |

3 קָשְׁרֵ֥ם עַל־אֶצְבְּעֹתֶ֑יךָ [2] Etnachta עַל־ל֥וּחַ לִבֶּֽךָ׃ [1] Silluq |
3 Bind them on your fingers. Write them on the tablet of your heart. [2] |

4 אֱמֹ֣ר לַֽ֭חָכְמָה [3] Dechi אֲחֹ֣תִי אָ֑תְּ [2] Etnachta לַבִּינָ֥ה תִקְרָֽא׃ [1] Silluq |
4 Tell wisdom, “You are my sister.” Call understanding your relative, [3] |

5 לִ֭שְׁמָרְךָ [3] Dechi מֵאִשָּׁ֣ה זָרָ֑ה [2] Etnachta אֲמָרֶ֥יהָ הֶחֱלִֽיקָה׃ [1] Silluq |
5 that they may keep you from the strange woman, from the foreigner who flatters with her words. [3] |

6 For at the window of my house, I looked out through my lattice. [3] |

7 וָאֵ֤רֶא בַפְּתָאיִ֗ם [3] Revi'i אָ֘בִ֤ינָה בַבָּנִ֗ים [3/2] Revi'i נַ֣עַר חֲסַר־לֵֽב׃ [1] Silluq |
7 I saw among the simple ones. I discerned among the youths a young man void of understanding, [3] |

8 עֹבֵ֣ר בַּ֭שּׁוּק [3] Dechi אֵ֣צֶל פִּנָּ֑הּ [2] Etnachta יִצְעָֽד׃ [1] Silluq |
8 passing through the street near her corner, he went the way to her house, [3] |

9 בְּנֶֽשֶׁף־בְּעֶ֥רֶב י֑וֹם [2] Etnachta וַאֲפֵלָֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
9 in the twilight, in the evening of the day, in the middle of the night and in the darkness. [2] |

10 וְהִנֵּ֣ה אִ֭שָּׁה [3] Dechi לִקְרָאת֑וֹ [2] Etnachta וּנְצֻ֥רַת לֵֽב׃ [1] Silluq |
10 Behold, there a woman met him with the attire of a prostitute, and with crafty intent. [3] |

11 הֹמִיָּ֣ה הִ֣יא [3] VDechi וְסֹרָ֑רֶת [2] Etnachta לֹא־יִשְׁכְּנ֥וּ רַגְלֶֽיהָ׃ [1] Silluq |
11 She is loud and defiant. Her feet don’t stay in her house. [3] |

12 פַּ֤עַם ׀ [4] Mahpakh Legarmeh בַּח֗וּץ [3] Revi'i פַּ֥עַם בָּרְחֹב֑וֹת [2] Etnachta תֶאֱרֹֽב׃ [1] Silluq |
12 Now she is in the streets, now in the squares, and lurking at every corner. [4] |

13 וְהֶחֱזִ֣יקָה בּ֭וֹ [3] Dechi וְנָ֣שְׁקָה־לּ֑וֹ [2] Etnachta וַתֹּ֣אמַר לֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq |
13 So she caught him, and kissed him. With an impudent face she said to him, [3] |

14 זִבְחֵ֣י שְׁלָמִ֣ים [3] VDechi עָלָ֑י [2] Etnachta שִׁלַּ֥מְתִּי נְדָרָֽי׃ [1] Silluq |
14 “Sacrifices of peace offerings are with me. Today I have paid my vows. [3] |

15 עַל־כֵּ֭ן [3] Dechi יָצָ֣אתִי לִקְרָאתֶ֑ךָ [2] Etnachta וָאֶמְצָאֶֽךָּ׃ [1] Silluq |
15 Therefore I came out to meet you, to diligently seek your face, and I have found you. [3] |

16 מַ֭רְבַדִּים [3] Dechi רָבַ֣דְתִּי עַרְשִׂ֑י [2] Etnachta אֵט֥וּן מִצְרָֽיִם׃ [1] Silluq |
16 I have spread my couch with carpets of tapestry, with striped cloths of the yarn of Egypt. [3] |

17 נַ֥פְתִּי מִשְׁכָּבִ֑י [2] Etnachta וְקִנָּמֽוֹן׃ [1] Silluq |
17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. [2] |

18 לְכָ֤ה נִרְוֶ֣ה דֹ֭דִים [3] Dechi עַד־הַבֹּ֑קֶר [2] Etnachta בָּאֳהָבִֽים׃ [1] Silluq |
18 Come, let’s take our fill of loving until the morning. Let’s solace ourselves with loving. [3] |

19 כִּ֤י אֵ֣ין הָאִ֣ישׁ [3] VDechi בְּבֵית֑וֹ [2] Etnachta בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ מֵרָחֽוֹק׃ [1] Silluq |
19 For my husband isn’t at home. He has gone on a long journey. [3] |

20 צְֽרוֹר־הַ֭כֶּסֶף [3] Dechi לָקַ֣ח בְּיָד֑וֹ [2] Etnachta יָבֹ֥א בֵיתֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq |
20 He has taken a bag of money with him. He will come home at the full moon.” [3] |

21 הִ֭טַּתּוּ [3] Dechi בְּרֹ֣ב לִקְחָ֑הּ [2] Etnachta תַּדִּיחֶֽנּוּ׃ [1] Silluq |
21 With persuasive words, she led him astray. With the flattering of her lips, she seduced him. [3] |

22 ה֤וֹלֵ֥ךְ אַחֲרֶ֗יהָ [3] Revi'i פִּ֫תְאֹ֥ם [2] Ole Veyored אֶל־טָ֣בַח יָב֑וֹא [2] Etnachta אֶל־מוּסַ֥ר אֱוִֽיל׃ [1] Silluq |
22 He followed her immediately, as an ox goes to the slaughter, as a fool stepping into a noose. [3] |

23 עַ֤ד יְפַלַּ֪ח חֵ֡ץ [4] Pazer כְּֽבֵד֗וֹ [3] Revi'i אֶל־פָּ֑ח [2] Etnachta כִּֽי־בְנַפְשׁ֥וֹ הֽוּא׃ [1] Silluq פ |
23 Until an arrow strikes through his liver, as a bird hurries to the snare, and doesn’t know that it will cost his life. [4] |

24 וְעַתָּ֣ה בָ֭נִים [3] Dechi שִׁמְעוּ־לִ֑י [2] Etnachta לְאִמְרֵי־פִֽי׃ [1] Silluq |
24 Now therefore, sons, listen to me. Pay attention to the words of my mouth. [3] |

25 אַל־יֵ֣שְׂטְ אֶל־דְּרָכֶ֣יהָ [3] VDechi לִבֶּ֑ךָ [2] Etnachta בִּנְתִיבוֹתֶֽיהָ׃ [1] Silluq |
25 Don’t let your heart turn to her ways. Don’t go astray in her paths, [3] |

26 כִּֽי־רַבִּ֣ים חֲלָלִ֣ים [3] VDechi הִפִּ֑ילָה [2] Etnachta כָּל־הֲרֻגֶֽיהָ׃ [1] Silluq |
26 for she has thrown down many wounded. Yes, all her slain are a mighty army. [3] |

27 דַּרְכֵ֣י שְׁא֣וֹל [3] VDechi בֵּיתָ֑הּ [2] Etnachta אֶל־חַדְרֵי־מָֽוֶת׃ [1] Silluq פ |
27 Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the rooms of death. ¶ [3] |
