1 וַיֹּ֤אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵל֙ [3] Pashta
אֶל־כׇּל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל [2] Zaqef
 
הִנֵּה֙ [3] Pashta
שָׁמַ֣עְתִּי בְקֹֽלְכֶ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
לְכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־אֲמַרְתֶּ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
לִ֑י [1] Etnachta
 
וָאַמְלִ֥יךְ עֲלֵיכֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
מֶֽלֶךְ׃ [1] Silluq

to all Israel, [2]
 
“Behold, [3]
I have listened to your voice, [2]
 
to all that you have said [2]
to me; [1]
 
and I have made king over you [2]
a king. [1]
2 וְעַתָּ֞ה [4] Gershayim
הִנֵּ֥ה הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ ׀ [4] Legarmeh
מִתְהַלֵּ֣ךְ לִפְנֵיכֶ֗ם [3] Revi'i
 
וַֽאֲנִי֙ [3] Pashta
זָקַ֣נְתִּי וָשַׂ֔בְתִּי [2] Zaqef
 
וּבָנַ֖י [2] Tip'cha
הִנָּ֣ם אִתְּכֶ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
וַֽאֲנִי֙ [3] Pashta
הִתְהַלַּ֣כְתִּי לִפְנֵיכֶ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
מִנְּעֻרַ֖י [2] Tip'cha
עַד־הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃ [1] Silluq

walks before you, [3]
 
and I, [3]
I am old and I am grey-haired, [2]
 
and my sons [2]
behold, they are with you; [1]

I have walked before you [2]

3 הִנְנִ֣י עֲנ֣וּ בִי֩ נֶ֨גֶד יְהֹוָ֜ה [4] Geresh

וְאֶת־מִ֤י עָשַׁ֙קְתִּי֙ [3 3] Pashta
אֶת־מִ֣י רַצּ֔וֹתִי [2] Zaqef
 
וּמִיַּד־מִי֙ [3] Pashta
לָקַ֣חְתִּי כֹ֔פֶר [2] Zaqef
 
וְאַעְלִ֥ים עֵינַ֖י [2] Tip'cha
בּ֑וֹ [1] Etnachta
 
וְאָשִׁ֖יב [2] Tip'cha
לָכֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq

Whose ox have I taken [4]
or whose donkey have I taken? [3]
 
Or whom have I defrauded? [3 3]
Whom have I oppressed? [2]
 
Or from whose hand [3]
have I taken a bribe, [2]
 
that I would hide my eyes [2]
by it? [1]
 
And I will restore it [2]
to you.” [1]

לֹ֥א עֲשַׁקְתָּ֖נוּ [2] Tip'cha
וְלֹ֣א רַצּוֹתָ֑נוּ [1] Etnachta
 
וְלֹא־לָקַ֥חְתָּ מִיַּד־אִ֖ישׁ [2] Tip'cha
מְאֽוּמָה׃ [1] Silluq

“You have not defrauded us [2]
and you have not oppressed us; [1]
 
nor have you taken from the hand of anyone [2]
anything.” [1]
5 וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֲלֵיהֶ֜ם [4] Geresh
עֵ֧ד יְהֹוָ֣ה בָּכֶ֗ם [3] Revi'i
 
וְעֵ֤ד מְשִׁיחוֹ֙ [3] Pashta
הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
כִּ֣י לֹ֧א מְצָאתֶ֛ם [3] Tevir
בְּיָדִ֖י [2] Tip'cha
מְא֑וּמָה [1] Etnachta
 
וַיֹּ֖אמֶר [2] Tip'cha
עֵֽד׃ [1] Silluq

“The LORD is a witness against you, [3]
 
and his anointed is a witness [3]
this day, [2]
 
that you have not found [3]
in my hand [2]
anything.” [1]
 
And they said, [2]
“He is witness.” [1]

אֲשֶׁ֤ר עָשָׂה֙ [3] Pashta
אֶת־מֹשֶׁ֣ה וְאֶֽת־אַהֲרֹ֔ן [2] Zaqef
 
וַאֲשֶׁ֧ר הֶעֱלָ֛ה [3] Tevir
אֶת־אֲבֹתֵיכֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
מֵאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃ [1] Silluq

to the people, [1]
 
“It is the LORD [3]
who appointed [3]
Moses and Aaron, [2]
 
and who brought up [3]
your fathers [2]
from the land of Egypt. [1]
7 וְעַתָּ֗ה [3] Revi'i
הִֽתְיַצְּב֛וּ [3] Tevir
וְאִשָּׁפְטָ֥ה אִתְּכֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
לִפְנֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֑ה [1] Etnachta
 
אֵ֚ת [3] Yetiv
כׇּל־צִדְק֣וֹת יְהֹוָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂ֥ה אִתְּכֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
וְאֶת־אֲבוֹתֵיכֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq

present yourselves [3]
that I may plead with you [2]
before the LORD; [1]

all the righteous acts of the LORD [2]
 
which he did with you [2]
and with your fathers. [1]
8 כַּאֲשֶׁר־בָּ֥א יַעֲקֹ֖ב [2] Tip'cha
מִצְרָ֑יִם [1] Etnachta
 
וַיִּזְעֲק֤וּ אֲבֽוֹתֵיכֶם֙ [3] Pashta
אֶל־יְהֹוָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח יְהֹוָ֜ה [4] Geresh
אֶת־מֹשֶׁ֣ה וְאֶֽת־אַהֲרֹ֗ן [3] Revi'i
 
וַיּוֹצִ֤יאוּ אֶת־אֲבֹֽתֵיכֶם֙ [3] Pashta
מִמִּצְרַ֔יִם [2] Zaqef
 
וַיֹּשִׁב֖וּם [2] Tip'cha
בַּמָּק֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃ [1] Silluq

and your fathers cried out [3]
to the LORD, [2]
 
then the LORD sent [4]
Moses and Aaron, [3]
 
and they brought out your fathers [3]
from Egypt, [2]
 
and they had them dwell [2]
in this place. [1]
9 וַֽיִּשְׁכְּח֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
אֶת־יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵיהֶ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
וַיִּמְכֹּ֣ר אֹתָ֡ם [4] Pazer
בְּיַ֣ד סִֽיסְרָא֩ שַׂר־צְבָ֨א חָצ֜וֹר [4] Geresh
וּבְיַד־פְּלִשְׁתִּ֗ים [3] Revi'i
 
וּבְיַד֙ [3] Pashta
מֶ֣לֶךְ מוֹאָ֔ב [2] Zaqef
 
וַיִּֽלָּחֲמ֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
בָּֽם׃ [1] Silluq

the LORD their God; [1]
 
and he sold them [4]
into the hand of Sisera, commander of the army of Hazor, [4]
and into the hand of the Philistines, [3]
 
and into the hand [3]
of the king of Moab, [2]
 
and they fought [2]
against them. [1]
10 וַיִּזְעֲק֤וּ אֶל־יְהֹוָה֙ [3] Pashta
*ויאמר **וַיֹּֽאמְר֣וּ חָטָ֔אנוּ [2] Zaqef
 
כִּ֤י עָזַ֙בְנוּ֙ [3 3] Pashta
אֶת־יְהֹוָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
וַנַּעֲבֹ֥ד אֶת־הַבְּעָלִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
וְאֶת־הָעַשְׁתָּר֑וֹת [1] Etnachta
 
וְעַתָּ֗ה [3] Revi'i
הַצִּילֵ֛נוּ [3] Tevir
מִיַּ֥ד אֹיְבֵ֖ינוּ [2] Tip'cha
וְנַעַבְדֶֽךָּ׃ [1] Silluq

and they said, ‘We have sinned, [2]
 
because we have forsaken [3 3]
the LORD, [2]
 
and we have served the Baals [2]
and the Ashtaroth; [1]
 
but now [3]
deliver us [3]
from the hand of our enemies, [2]
and we will serve you.’ [1]
11 וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח יְהֹוָה֙ [3] Pashta
אֶת־יְרֻבַּ֣עַל וְאֶת־בְּדָ֔ן [2] Zaqef
 
וְאֶת־יִפְתָּ֖ח [2] Tip'cha
וְאֶת־שְׁמוּאֵ֑ל [1] Etnachta
 
וַיַּצֵּ֨ל אֶתְכֶ֜ם [4] Geresh
מִיַּ֤ד אֹֽיְבֵיכֶם֙ [3] Pashta
מִסָּבִ֔יב [2] Zaqef
 
וַתֵּשְׁב֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
בֶּֽטַח׃ [1] Silluq

Jerubbaal and Bedan, [2]
 
and Jephthah [2]
and Samuel; [1]
 
and he delivered you [4]
from the hand of your enemies [3]
on every side, [2]
 
and you dwelt [2]
in safety. [1]
12 וַתִּרְא֗וּ [3] Revi'i
 
כִּֽי־נָחָ֞שׁ [4] Gershayim
מֶ֣לֶךְ בְּנֵֽי־עַמּוֹן֮ [3] Zarqa
בָּ֣א עֲלֵיכֶם֒ [2] Segol
 
וַתֹּ֣אמְרוּ לִ֔י [2] Zaqef
לֹ֕א [2] ZaqefG
כִּי־מֶ֖לֶךְ [2] Tip'cha
יִמְלֹ֣ךְ עָלֵ֑ינוּ [1] Etnachta
 
וַיהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
מַלְכְּכֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq

the king of the children of Ammon [3]
was coming against you, [2]
 
you said to me, [2]
‘No, [2]
but a king, [2]
he shall reign over us;’ [1]

13 וְעַתָּ֗ה [3] Revi'i
הִנֵּ֥ה הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ [3] Tevir
אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּחַרְתֶּ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
אֲשֶׁ֣ר שְׁאֶלְתֶּ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
וְהִנֵּ֨ה נָתַ֧ן יְהֹוָ֛ה [3] Tevir
עֲלֵיכֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
מֶֽלֶךְ׃ [1] Silluq

behold the king [3]
whom you have chosen, [2]
whom you asked for; [1]
 
and behold, the LORD has set [3]
over you [2]
a king. [1]
14 אִם־תִּֽירְא֣וּ אֶת־יְהֹוָ֗ה [3] Revi'i
וַעֲבַדְתֶּ֤ם אֹתוֹ֙ [3] Pashta
וּשְׁמַעְתֶּ֣ם בְּקוֹל֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
 
וְלֹ֥א תַמְר֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
אֶת־פִּ֣י יְהֹוָ֑ה [1] Etnachta
 
וִהְיִתֶ֣ם גַּם־אַתֶּ֗ם [3] Revi'i
וְגַם־הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ [3 3] Pashta
אֲשֶׁ֣ר מָלַ֣ךְ עֲלֵיכֶ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
אַחַ֖ר [2] Tip'cha
יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq

and you will serve him [3]
and you will listen to his voice, [2]
 
and you will not rebel against [2]
the mouth of the LORD; [1]
 
then you will be, both you [3]
and also the king [3 3]
who has become king over you, [2]
 
following [2]
the LORD your God. [1]
15 וְאִם־לֹ֤א תִשְׁמְעוּ֙ [3] Pashta
בְּק֣וֹל יְהֹוָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
וּמְרִיתֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
אֶת־פִּ֣י יְהֹוָ֑ה [1] Etnachta
 
וְהָיְתָ֧ה יַד־יְהֹוָ֛ה [3] Tevir
בָּכֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
וּבַאֲבֹתֵיכֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq

to the voice of the LORD, [2]
 
and you rebel against [2]
the mouth of the LORD; [1]
 
then the hand of the LORD will be [3]
against you, [2]
and against your fathers. [1]
16 גַּם־עַתָּה֙ [3] Pashta
הִתְיַצְּב֣וּ וּרְא֔וּ [2] Zaqef
 
אֶת־הַדָּבָ֥ר הַגָּד֖וֹל [2] Tip'cha
הַזֶּ֑ה [1] Etnachta
 
אֲשֶׁ֣ר יְהֹוָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
עֹשֶׂ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
לְעֵינֵיכֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq

the great thing [2]
this; [1]
 
which the LORD [2]
is about to do [2]
before your eyes. [1]
17 הֲל֤וֹא קְצִיר־חִטִּים֙ [3] Pashta

אֶקְרָא֙ [3] Pashta
אֶל־יְהֹוָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
וְיִתֵּ֥ן קֹל֖וֹת [2] Tip'cha
וּמָטָ֑ר [1] Etnachta
 
וּדְע֣וּ וּרְא֗וּ [3] Revi'i
כִּֽי־רָעַתְכֶ֤ם רַבָּה֙ [3] Pashta
אֲשֶׁ֤ר עֲשִׂיתֶם֙ [3] Pashta
בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
לִשְׁא֥וֹל לָכֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
מֶֽלֶךְ׃ [1] Silluq

I will call out [3]
to the LORD, [2]
 
and he will send thunder [2]
and rain; [1]
 
and know and see [3]
that your evil is great [3]

by asking for yourselves [2]
a king.” [1]

18 וַיִּקְרָ֤א שְׁמוּאֵל֙ [3] Pashta
אֶל־יְהֹוָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
וַיִּתֵּ֧ן יְהֹוָ֛ה [3] Tevir
קֹלֹ֥ת וּמָטָ֖ר [2] Tip'cha
בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֑וּא [1] Etnachta
 
וַיִּירָ֨א כׇל־הָעָ֥ם מְאֹ֛ד [3] Tevir
אֶת־יְהֹוָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
וְאֶת־שְׁמוּאֵֽל׃ [1] Silluq

to the LORD, [2]
 
and the LORD sent [3]
thunder and rain [2]
on that day; [1]
 
and all the people greatly feared [3]
the LORD [2]

19 וַיֹּאמְר֨וּ כׇל־הָעָ֜ם [4] Geresh
אֶל־שְׁמוּאֵ֗ל [3] Revi'i
 
הִתְפַּלֵּ֧ל בְּעַד־עֲבָדֶ֛יךָ [3] Tevir
אֶל־יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ [2] Tip'cha
 
וְאַל־נָמ֑וּת [1] Etnachta
 
כִּֽי־יָסַ֤פְנוּ עַל־כׇּל־חַטֹּאתֵ֙ינוּ֙ [3 3] Pashta
רָעָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
לִשְׁאֹ֥ל לָ֖נוּ [2] Tip'cha
מֶֽלֶךְ׃ [1] Silluq

to Samuel, [3]
 
“Pray for your servants [3]
to the LORD your God, [2]
 
that we will not die; [1]
 
for we have added to all our sins [3 3]
an evil thing, [2]
 
by asking for ourselves [2]
a king.” [1]
20 וַיֹּ֨אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵ֤ל אֶל־הָעָם֙ [3] Pashta
אַל־תִּירָ֔אוּ [2] Zaqef
 
אַתֶּ֣ם עֲשִׂיתֶ֔ם [2] Zaqef
אֵ֥ת כׇּל־הָרָעָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
הַזֹּ֑את [1] Etnachta
 
אַ֗ךְ [3] Revi'i
אַל־תָּס֙וּרוּ֙ [3 3] Pashta
מֵאַחֲרֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
וַעֲבַדְתֶּ֥ם אֶת־יְהֹוָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
בְּכׇל־לְבַבְכֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq

“Don’t be afraid. [2]
 
You, indeed you have done [2]
all the evil [2]
this; [1]
 
but just [3]
do not turn aside [3 3]
from following the LORD, [2]
 
and serve the LORD [2]
with all your heart. [1]
21 וְלֹ֖א [2] Tip'cha
תָּס֑וּרוּ [1] Etnachta
 
כִּ֣י ׀ [4] Legarmeh
אַחֲרֵ֣י הַתֹּ֗הוּ [3] Revi'i
 
אֲשֶׁ֧ר לֹֽא־יוֹעִ֛ילוּ [3] Tevir
וְלֹ֥א יַצִּ֖ילוּ [2] Tip'cha
 
כִּי־תֹ֥הוּ הֵֽמָּה׃ [1] Silluq

turn aside, [1]
 
to [4]
go after vain things [3]
 
which will be no benefit [3]
and will not deliver, [2]
 
for they are emptiness. [1]
22 כִּ֠י [4] TelishaG
לֹֽא־יִטֹּ֤שׁ יְהֹוָה֙ [3] Pashta
אֶת־עַמּ֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
 
בַּעֲב֖וּר [2] Tip'cha
שְׁמ֣וֹ הַגָּד֑וֹל [1] Etnachta
 
כִּ֚י [3] Yetiv
הוֹאִ֣יל יְהֹוָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת אֶתְכֶ֛ם [3] Tevir
ל֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha
לְעָֽם׃ [1] Silluq

the LORD will not abandon [3]
his people, [2]
 
because of [2]
his great name; [1]
 
for [3]
it was the LORD's own choice [2]
 
to make you [3]
for himself [2]
a people. [1]
23 גַּ֣ם אָנֹכִ֗י [3] Revi'i
חָלִ֤ילָה לִּי֙ [3] Pashta
מֵחֲטֹ֣א לַיהֹוָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
מֵחֲדֹ֖ל [2] Tip'cha
לְהִתְפַּלֵּ֣ל בַּעַדְכֶ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
וְהוֹרֵיתִ֣י אֶתְכֶ֔ם [2] Zaqef
בְּדֶ֥רֶךְ הַטּוֹבָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
וְהַיְשָׁרָֽה׃ [1] Silluq

far be it from me [3]
that I should sin against the LORD, [2]
 
by ceasing [2]
to pray for you; [1]
 
but I will instruct you [2]
in the way of the good [2]
and the upright. [1]
24 אַ֣ךְ ׀ [4] Legarmeh
יְר֣אוּ אֶת־יְהֹוָ֗ה [3] Revi'i
 
וַעֲבַדְתֶּ֥ם אֹת֛וֹ [3] Tevir
בֶּאֱמֶ֖ת [2] Tip'cha
 
בְּכׇל־לְבַבְכֶ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
כִּ֣י רְא֔וּ [2] Zaqef
אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־הִגְדִּ֖ל [2] Tip'cha
עִמָּכֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq

fear the LORD [3]
 
and serve him [3]
in faithfulness, [2]
 
with all your heart; [1]
 
for consider [2]
what great things he has done [2]
for you. [1]
25 וְאִם־הָרֵ֖עַ [2] Tip'cha
תָּרֵ֑עוּ [1] Etnachta
 
גַּם־אַתֶּ֥ם גַּֽם־מַלְכְּכֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
תִּסָּפֽוּ׃ [1] Silluq

1 2 2 25 But if still [2]
you do evil; [1]
 
both you and your king, [2]
you will be swept away.” [1]
