1 וַיַּ֗עַל [3] Revi'i
נָחָשׁ֙ [3] Pashta
הָעַמּוֹנִ֔י [2] Zaqef
 
וַיִּ֖חַן [2] Tip'cha
עַל־יָבֵ֣ישׁ גִּלְעָ֑ד [1] Etnachta
 
וַיֹּ֨אמְר֜וּ [4] Geresh
כׇּל־אַנְשֵׁ֤י יָבֵישׁ֙ [3] Pashta
אֶל־נָחָ֔שׁ [2] Zaqef
 
כְּרׇת־לָ֥נוּ בְרִ֖ית [2] Tip'cha
וְנַֽעַבְדֶֽךָּ׃ [1] Silluq

Nahash [3]
the Ammonite, [2]
 
and he encamped [2]
against Jabesh Gilead; [1]
 
and they said [4]
all the men of Jabesh, [3]
to Nahash, [2]
 
“Make with us a covenant, [2]
and we will serve you.” [1]
2 וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם [3] Revi'i

הָעַמּוֹנִ֔י [2] Zaqef
 
בְּזֹאת֙ [3] Pashta
אֶכְרֹ֣ת לָכֶ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
בִּנְק֥וֹר לָכֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
כׇּל־עֵ֣ין יָמִ֑ין [1] Etnachta
 
וְשַׂמְתִּ֥יהָ חֶרְפָּ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
עַל־כׇּל־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ [1] Silluq

the Ammonite, [2]
 
“By this [3]
will I make it with you, [2]
 
by gouging out your [2]
every right eye; [1]
 
and I will make it a reproach [2]
on all Israel.” [1]
3 וַיֹּאמְר֨וּ אֵלָ֜יו [4] Geresh
זִקְנֵ֣י יָבֵ֗ישׁ [3] Revi'i
 
הֶ֤רֶף לָ֙נוּ֙ [3 3] Pashta
שִׁבְעַ֣ת יָמִ֔ים [2] Zaqef
 
וְנִשְׁלְחָה֙ [3] Pashta
מַלְאָכִ֔ים [2] Zaqef
 
בְּכֹ֖ל [2] Tip'cha
גְּב֣וּל יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל [1] Etnachta
 
וְאִם־אֵ֥ין מוֹשִׁ֛יעַ [3] Tevir
אֹתָ֖נוּ [2] Tip'cha
וְיָצָ֥אנוּ אֵלֶֽיךָ׃ [1] Silluq

“Give us [3 3]
seven days, [2]
 
that we may send [3]
messengers [2]
 
to all [2]
the territory of Israel; [1]
 
and if there is no one to deliver [3]
us, [2]
we will come out to you.” [1]
4 וַיָּבֹ֤אוּ הַמַּלְאָכִים֙ [3] Pashta
גִּבְעַ֣ת שָׁא֔וּל [2] Zaqef
 
וַיְדַבְּר֥וּ הַדְּבָרִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
בְּאׇזְנֵ֣י הָעָ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
וַיִּשְׂא֧וּ כׇל־הָעָ֛ם [3] Tevir
אֶת־קוֹלָ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
וַיִּבְכּֽוּ׃ [1] Silluq

to Gibeah of Saul, [2]
 
and they spoke the words [2]
in the ears of the people; [1]
 
and all the people lifted up [3]
their voice, [2]
and they wept. [1]
5 וְהִנֵּ֣ה שָׁא֗וּל [3] Revi'i
בָּ֣א אַחֲרֵ֤י הַבָּקָר֙ [3] Pashta
מִן־הַשָּׂדֶ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
וַיֹּ֣אמֶר שָׁא֔וּל [2] Zaqef
מַה־לָּעָ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
כִּ֣י יִבְכּ֑וּ [1] Etnachta
 
וַ֨יְסַפְּרוּ־ל֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
אֶת־דִּבְרֵ֖י [2] Tip'cha
אַנְשֵׁ֥י יָבֵֽישׁ׃ [1] Silluq

came following the cattle [3]
from the field, [2]
 
and Saul said, [2]
“What's happened to the people [2]
that they are weeping?” [1]
 
And they recounted to him [2]
the words [2]
of the men of Jabesh. [1]
6 וַתִּצְלַ֤ח רֽוּחַ־אֱלֹהִים֙ [3] Pashta
עַל־שָׁא֔וּל [2] Zaqef
 
*בשמעו **כְּשׇׁמְע֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha
אֶת־הַדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֑לֶּה [1] Etnachta
 
וַיִּ֥חַר אַפּ֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha
מְאֹֽד׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 6 And the Spirit of God rushed [3]
on Saul [2]
 
when he heard [2]
these words; [1]
 
and his anger burned [2]
exceedingly. [1]
7 וַיִּקַּח֩ צֶ֨מֶד בָּקָ֜ר [4] Geresh
וַֽיְנַתְּחֵ֗הוּ [3] Revi'i
 
וַיְשַׁלַּ֞ח [4] Gershayim
בְּכׇל־גְּב֣וּל יִשְׂרָאֵל֮ [3] Zarqa
בְּיַ֣ד הַמַּלְאָכִ֣ים ׀ לֵאמֹר֒ [2] Segol
 
אֲשֶׁר֩ אֵינֶ֨נּוּ יֹצֵ֜א [4] Geresh
אַחֲרֵ֤י שָׁאוּל֙ [3] Pashta
וְאַחַ֣ר שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל [2] Zaqef
 
כֹּ֥ה יֵעָשֶׂ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
לִבְקָר֑וֹ [1] Etnachta
 
וַיִּפֹּ֤ל פַּֽחַד־יְהֹוָה֙ [3] Pashta
עַל־הָעָ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
וַיֵּצְא֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
כְּאִ֥ישׁ אֶחָֽד׃ [1] Silluq

and he cut them in pieces, [3]
 
and he sent them [4]
throughout all the territory of Israel [3]
by the hand of messengers saying, [2]
 
“Whoever doesn’t come out [4]
after Saul [3]
and after Samuel, [2]
 
thus shall it be done [2]
to his oxen.” [1]
 
And the dread of the LORD fell [3]
on the people, [2]
 
and they came out [2]
as one man. [1]
8 וַֽיִּפְקְדֵ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
בְּבָ֑זֶק [1] Etnachta
 
וַיִּהְי֤וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ [3] Pashta
שְׁלֹ֣שׁ מֵא֣וֹת אֶ֔לֶף [2] Zaqef
 
וְאִ֥ישׁ יְהוּדָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים אָֽלֶף׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 3 2 8 And he counted them [2]
at Bezek; [1]
 
and the children of Israel were [3]
three hundred thousand, [2]
 
and the men of Judah [2]
thirty thousand. [1]
9 וַיֹּאמְר֞וּ [4] Gershayim
לַמַּלְאָכִ֣ים הַבָּאִ֗ים [3] Revi'i
 
כֹּ֤ה תֹֽאמְרוּן֙ [3] Pashta
לְאִישׁ֙ [3] Pashta
יָבֵ֣ישׁ גִּלְעָ֔ד [2] Zaqef
 
מָחָ֛ר [3] Tevir
תִּֽהְיֶֽה־לָכֶ֥ם תְּשׁוּעָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
*בחם **כְּחֹ֣ם הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ [1] Etnachta
 
וַיָּבֹ֣אוּ הַמַּלְאָכִ֗ים [3] Revi'i
וַיַּגִּ֛ידוּ [3] Tevir
לְאַנְשֵׁ֥י יָבֵ֖ישׁ [2] Tip'cha
וַיִּשְׂמָֽחוּ׃ [1] Silluq

to the messengers who had come, [3]
 
“Thus you shall say [3]
to the men [3]
of Jabesh Gilead, [2]
 
‘Tomorrow [3]
your deliverance will come, [2]
by the time the sun is hot.’ ” [1]
 
And the messengers went, [3]
and they told [3]
the men of Jabesh, [2]
and they were glad. [1]
10 וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ [3] Pashta
אַנְשֵׁ֣י יָבֵ֔ישׁ [2] Zaqef
 
מָחָ֖ר [2] Tip'cha
נֵצֵ֣א אֲלֵיכֶ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
וַעֲשִׂיתֶ֣ם לָ֔נוּ [2] Zaqef
כְּכׇל־הַטּ֖וֹב [2] Tip'cha
בְּעֵינֵיכֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq

the men of Jabesh, [2]
 
“Tomorrow [2]
we will come out to you; [1]
 
and you shall do to us [2]
all that seems good [2]
in your eyes.” [1]

11 וַיְהִ֣י מִֽמׇּחֳרָ֗ת [3] Revi'i
וַיָּ֨שֶׂם שָׁא֣וּל אֶת־הָעָם֮ [3] Zarqa
שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה רָאשִׁים֒ [2] Segol
 
וַיָּבֹ֤אוּ בְתוֹךְ־הַֽמַּחֲנֶה֙ [3] Pashta
בְּאַשְׁמֹ֣רֶת הַבֹּ֔קֶר [2] Zaqef
 
וַיַּכּ֥וּ אֶת־עַמּ֖וֹן [2] Tip'cha
עַד־חֹ֣ם הַיּ֑וֹם [1] Etnachta
 
וַיְהִ֤י הַנִּשְׁאָרִים֙ [3] Pashta
וַיָּפֻ֔צוּ [2] Zaqef
 
וְלֹ֥א נִשְׁאֲרוּ־בָ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
שְׁנַ֥יִם יָֽחַד׃ [1] Silluq

Saul made the people [3]
three companies, [2]
 
and they went into the middle of the camp [3]
in the morning watch, [2]
 
and they struck down the Ammonites [2]
until the heat of the day; [1]
 
and those who remained, [3]
they were scattered, [2]
 
and were not left of them [2]
two together. [1]
12 וַיֹּ֤אמֶר הָעָם֙ [3] Pashta
אֶל־שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל [2] Zaqef
 
מִ֣י הָאֹמֵ֔ר [2] Zaqef
שָׁא֖וּל [2] Tip'cha
יִמְלֹ֣ךְ עָלֵ֑ינוּ [1] Etnachta
 
תְּנ֥וּ הָאֲנָשִׁ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
וּנְמִיתֵֽם׃ [1] Silluq

to Samuel, [2]
 
“Who is he who said, [2]
‘Shall Saul [2]
reign over us?’ [1]
 
Bring those men, [2]
that we may put them to death!” [1]
13 וַיֹּ֣אמֶר שָׁא֔וּל [2] Zaqef
לֹא־יוּמַ֥ת אִ֖ישׁ [2] Tip'cha
בַּיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֑ה [1] Etnachta
 
כִּ֥י הַיּ֛וֹם [3] Tevir
עָשָֽׂה־יְהֹוָ֥ה תְּשׁוּעָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ [1] Silluq

“No one shall be put to death [2]
today; [1]
 
for today [3]
the LORD has worked deliverance [2]
in Israel.” [1]
14 וַיֹּ֤אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵל֙ [3] Pashta
אֶל־הָעָ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
לְכ֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
וְנֵלְכָ֣ה הַגִּלְגָּ֑ל [1] Etnachta
 
וּנְחַדֵּ֥שׁ שָׁ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
הַמְּלוּכָֽה׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 14 And Samuel said [3]
to the people, [2]
 
“Come! [2]
Let’s go to Gilgal; [1]
 
and let us renew there [2]
the kingship.” [1]
15 וַיֵּלְכ֨וּ כׇל־הָעָ֜ם [4] Geresh
הַגִּלְגָּ֗ל [3] Revi'i
 
וַיַּמְלִ֩כוּ֩ שָׁ֨ם אֶת־שָׁא֜וּל [4] Geresh
לִפְנֵ֤י יְהֹוָה֙ [3] Pashta
בַּגִּלְגָּ֔ל [2] Zaqef
 
וַיִּזְבְּחוּ־שָׁ֛ם [3] Tevir
זְבָחִ֥ים שְׁלָמִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
לִפְנֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֑ה [1] Etnachta
 
וַיִּשְׂמַ֨ח שָׁ֥ם שָׁא֛וּל [3] Tevir
וְכׇל־אַנְשֵׁ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל [2] Tip'cha
עַד־מְאֹֽד׃ [1] Silluq

and there they made Saul king [4]
before the LORD [3]
in Gilgal, [2]
 
and there they offered [3]
sacrifices of peace offerings [2]
before the LORD; [1]
 
and there Saul rejoiced [3]
and all the men of Israel [2]
greatly. [1]
