1 So remember [3] your Creator [2] of your youth; [1] the evil days, [2] when you will say, [2] “I have not in them [2] pleasure,” [1] |

4 when the doors are shut [3 3] in the street, [2] the sound of the grinding mill; [1] to the sound of a bird, [2] all the daughters of song, [1] |

5 גַּ֣ם מִגָּבֹ֤הַּ יִרָ֙אוּ֙ [3 3] Pashta וְחַתְחַתִּ֣ים בַּדֶּ֔רֶךְ [2] Zaqef וְיִסְתַּבֵּ֣ל הֶֽחָגָ֔ב [2] Zaqef הָֽאֲבִיּוֹנָ֑ה [1] Etnachta אֶל־בֵּ֣ית עוֹלָמ֔וֹ [2] Zaqef הַסּוֹפְדִֽים׃ [1] Silluq |
5 and they are afraid of heights [3 3] and of dangers on the road, [2] and the grasshopper drags itself along, [2] the caper berry; [1] to his eternal home, [2] the mourners, [1] |

6 when not yet has it been severed, [3] the silver cord, [2] the golden bowl; [1] at the spring, [2] at the cistern, [1] |

7 וְיָשֹׁ֧ב הֶעָפָ֛ר [3] Tevir עַל־הָאָ֖רֶץ [2] Tip'cha כְּשֶׁהָיָ֑ה [1] Etnachta אֶל־הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha אֲשֶׁ֥ר נְתָנָֽהּ׃ [1] Silluq |
7 Then shall the dust return [3] to the earth [2] just as it was; [1] to God [2] who gave it. [1] |

8 “Futility of futilities,” [3] says Kohelet, [2] “all is futility!” [1] |

10 Kohelet sought [2] to find [2] pleasing words; [1] words of truth. [1] |

11 דִּבְרֵ֤י חֲכָמִים֙ [3] Pashta כַּדָּ֣רְבֹנ֔וֹת [2] Zaqef בַּעֲלֵ֣י אֲסֻפּ֑וֹת [1] Etnachta מֵרֹעֶ֥ה אֶחָֽד׃ [1] Silluq |
11 The words of the wise [3] are like goads, [2] are the collected sayings; [1] from one shepherd. [1] |

12 וְיֹתֵ֥ר מֵהֵ֖מָּה [2] Tip'cha בְּנִ֣י הִזָּהֵ֑ר [1] Etnachta אֵ֣ין קֵ֔ץ [2] Zaqef יְגִעַ֥ת בָּשָֽׂר׃ [1] Silluq |
12 But beyond them [2] my son be warned; [1] there is no end, [2] is a weariness of the flesh. [1] |

13 The end of the matter, [2] all having been heard; [1] and keep his commandments, [2] is (for) all mankind, [1] |

14 כִּ֚י [3] Yetiv אֶת־כׇּל־מַֽעֲשֶׂ֔ה [2] Zaqef יָבִ֥א בְמִשְׁפָּ֖ט [2] Tip'cha עַ֣ל כׇּל־נֶעְלָ֑ם [1] Etnachta וְאִם־רָֽע׃ [1] Silluq |
14 for [3] every deed, [2] he will bring into judgment, [2] including every hidden thing; [1] or evil. [1] |
