שמות 18 | Exodus 18 | |||
1 Now he heard, [4] Jethro the priest of Midian [3] the father-in-law of Moses, [2] for Moses, [2] his people; [1] Israel [2] from Egypt. [1] |
2 Now he had taken in, [3] Jethro [3] the father-in-law of Moses, [2] the wife of Moses; [1] she was sent away, [1] |
3 with [2] her two sons; [1] was Gershom, [2] “a sojourner I have become [2] in a land [2] foreign,” [1] |
[1] Silluq |
4 and the name of the other [2] was Eliezer; [1] was my help, [2] from the sword of Pharaoh.” [1] |
5 So he came, [4] Jethro the father-in-law of Moses, [3] with his sons and his wife [2] to Moses; [1] where he [3] was camped there [2] at the Mountain of God. [1] |
6 And he said [3 3] to Moses, [2] your father-in-law Jethro [2] have come to you; [1] and her two sons [2] with her.” [1] |
7 So Moses went out [4] to meet his father-in-law [3] and he kissed him, [2] of welfare; [1] into the tent. [1] |
8 And Moses recounted [3] to his father-in-law, [2] to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians [2] behalf of Israel; [1] which had come upon them on the journey, [2] the LORD. [1] |
[1] Silluq |
9 And Jethro rejoiced [2] all the good [2] to Israel; [1] from the hand of the Egyptians. [1] |
10 And he said, [3 3] Jethro, [2] from the hand of the Egyptians, [2] and from the hand of Pharaoh; [1] the people [2] the hand of the Egyptians. [1] |
11 Now I know, [2] that great is the LORD [2] more than all the gods; [1] when they acted arrogantly [2] against them.” [1] |
[2] Tip'cha |
12 Then he took, [4] Jethro the father-in-law of Moses, [3] a burnt offering and sacrifices [2] to God; [1] with all [4] the elders of Israel, [3] with the father-in-law of Moses, [2] |
13 And it was, [3] on the next day, [2] to judge the people; [1] around Moses [2] until the evening. [1] |
14 When he saw, [3] the father-in-law of Moses, [2] all that he was doing [2] for the people; [1] “What is this thing [3] which you are doing [3] for the people? [2] do you sit, [3] you alone, [2] standing around you [2] from morning until evening?” [1] |
[1] Silluq |
15 And Moses said [2] to his father-in-law; [1] the people, [2] to inquire of God. [1] |
16 When they have an issue, [3] it comes to me, [2] between a man [2] and his neighbor; [1] the statutes of God [2] and his laws.” [1] |
[1] Silluq |
17 But he said, [3] the father-in-law of Moses, [2] to him; [1] is the thing [2] are doing. [1] |
18 You will surely wear yourself out, [2] both you, [2] and these people [2] who are with you; [1] is the task, [2] yourself alone. [1] |
19 Now [4] listen to my voice, [3] I will give you advice, [2] with you. [1] before [3] God, [2] the matters [2] to God. [1] |
20 And you shall teach them [2] the statutes [2] and the laws; [1] the way [3 3] in which they are to walk, [2] which they are to do. [1] |
21 But you, you should seek out from all the people, [4 4] men of ability [4] who fear God, [3] men of faithfulness, [2] heads of thousands, [3] heads of hundreds, [2] and heads of tens. [1] |
22 And let them judge the people [3] all the time, [2] that every major case [3] they shall bring to you, [2] they, they shall judge; [1] from on yourself, [2] with you. [1] |
23 If this thing [3] you will do, [2] then you will be able [2] to endure; [1] all these people, [2] they will go in peace.” [1] |
[1] Silluq |
24 So Moses listened [2] to the voice of his father-in-law; [1] all [2] that he said. [1] |
25 And Moses chose men of ability [3 3] from all Israel, [2] chiefs [2] over the people; [1] heads of hundreds, [2] and heads of tens. [1] |
26 And they judged the people [2] all the time; [1] they brought to Moses, [2] they, they judged. [1] |
27 Then Moses sent off [2] his father-in-law; [1] to his own land. [1] ¶ |
