have come to you; [1]
 
with your wife [2]
and her two sons [2]

לִקְרַ֣את חֹֽתְנ֗וֹ [3] Revi'i
 
וַיִּשְׁתַּ֙חוּ֙ [3 3] Pashta
וַיִּשַּׁק־ל֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
 
וַיִּשְׁאֲל֥וּ אִישׁ־לְרֵעֵ֖הוּ [2] Tip'cha
לְשָׁל֑וֹם [1] Etnachta
 
וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ [2] Tip'cha
הָאֹֽהֱלָה׃ [1] Silluq

and he kissed him, [2]
 
and they asked each other [2]

לְחֹ֣תְנ֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
 
אֵת֩ כׇּל־אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשָׂ֤ה יְהֹוָה֙ [3] Pashta
לְפַרְעֹ֣ה וּלְמִצְרַ֔יִם [2] Zaqef
 
עַ֖ל [2] Tip'cha
אוֹדֹ֣ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל [1] Etnachta
 
אֵ֤ת כׇּל־הַתְּלָאָה֙ [3] Pashta
אֲשֶׁ֣ר מְצָאָ֣תַם בַּדֶּ֔רֶךְ [2] Zaqef
 
וַיַּצִּלֵ֖ם [2] Tip'cha

all that the LORD had done [3]
to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians [2]

behalf of Israel; [1]
 
all the hardship [3]
which had come upon them on the journey, [2]
 
and he had delivered them, [2]
the LORD. [1]
9 וַיִּ֣חַדְּ יִתְר֔וֹ [2] Zaqef

כׇּל־הַטּוֹבָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂ֥ה יְהֹוָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל [1] Etnachta
 
אֲשֶׁ֥ר הִצִּיל֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha
מִיַּ֥ד מִצְרָֽיִם׃ [1] Silluq

all the good [2]
 
which the LORD had done [2]
to Israel; [1]
 
whom he had delivered [2]
from the hand of the Egyptians. [1]

בָּר֣וּךְ יְהֹוָ֔ה [2] Zaqef

וּמִיַּ֣ד פַּרְעֹ֑ה [1] Etnachta
 
אֲשֶׁ֤ר הִצִּיל֙ [3] Pashta

מִתַּ֖חַת [2] Tip'cha
יַד־מִצְרָֽיִם׃ [1] Silluq

“Blessed be the LORD, [2]
 
who has delivered you [3]
from the hand of the Egyptians, [2]
and from the hand of Pharaoh; [1]
 
who has delivered [3]
the people [2]
 
from under [2]
the hand of the Egyptians. [1]
11 עַתָּ֣ה יָדַ֔עְתִּי [2] Zaqef
כִּֽי־גָד֥וֹל יְהֹוָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
מִכׇּל־הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים [1] Etnachta
 
כִּ֣י בַדָּבָ֔ר [2] Zaqef
אֲשֶׁ֥ר זָד֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq

that great is the LORD [2]
more than all the gods; [1]
 
because of what happened [2]
when they acted arrogantly [2]
against them.” [1]
12 וַיִּקַּ֞ח [4] Gershayim
יִתְר֨וֹ חֹתֵ֥ן מֹשֶׁ֛ה [3] Tevir
עֹלָ֥ה וּזְבָחִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
לֵֽאלֹהִ֑ים [1] Etnachta
 
וַיָּבֹ֨א אַהֲרֹ֜ן [4] Geresh
וְכֹ֣ל ׀ [4] Legarmeh
זִקְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל [3] Revi'i
 
לֶאֱכׇל־לֶ֛חֶם [3] Tevir
עִם־חֹתֵ֥ן מֹשֶׁ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
 
לִפְנֵ֥י הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ [1] Silluq

a burnt offering and sacrifices [2]
to God; [1]
 
and Aaron came [4]
with all [4]
the elders of Israel, [3]
 
to eat bread [3]
with the father-in-law of Moses, [2]
 
before God. [1]
13 וַיְהִי֙ [3] Pashta
מִֽמׇּחֳרָ֔ת [2] Zaqef
 
וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב מֹשֶׁ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
לִשְׁפֹּ֣ט אֶת־הָעָ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
וַיַּעֲמֹ֤ד הָעָם֙ [3] Pashta
עַל־מֹשֶׁ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
מִן־הַבֹּ֖קֶר [2] Tip'cha
עַד־הָעָֽרֶב׃ [1] Silluq

on the next day, [2]
 
Moses sat [2]
to judge the people; [1]
 
and the people stood [3]
around Moses [2]
 
from the morning [2]
until the evening. [1]
14 וַיַּרְא֙ [3] Pashta
חֹתֵ֣ן מֹשֶׁ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
אֵ֛ת [3] Tevir
כׇּל־אֲשֶׁר־ה֥וּא עֹשֶׂ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
לָעָ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
וַיֹּ֗אמֶר [3] Revi'i
מָֽה־הַדָּבָ֤ר הַזֶּה֙ [3] Pashta
אֲשֶׁ֨ר אַתָּ֤ה עֹשֶׂה֙ [3] Pashta
לָעָ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
מַדּ֗וּעַ [3] Revi'i
אַתָּ֤ה יוֹשֵׁב֙ [3] Pashta
לְבַדֶּ֔ךָ [2] Zaqef
 
וְכׇל־הָעָ֛ם [3] Tevir
נִצָּ֥ב עָלֶ֖יךָ [2] Tip'cha
מִן־בֹּ֥קֶר עַד־עָֽרֶב׃ [1] Silluq

“What is this thing [3]
which you are doing [3]
for the people? [2]

do you sit, [3]
you alone, [2]
 
with all the people [3]
standing around you [2]
from morning until evening?” [1]
15 וַיֹּ֥אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
לְחֹתְנ֑וֹ [1] Etnachta
 
כִּֽי־יָבֹ֥א אֵלַ֛י [3] Tevir
הָעָ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
לִדְרֹ֥שׁ אֱלֹהִֽים׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 3 15 And Moses said [2]
to his father-in-law; [1]
 
“Because they come to me, [3]
the people, [2]
to inquire of God. [1]
16 כִּֽי־יִהְיֶ֨ה לָהֶ֤ם דָּבָר֙ [3] Pashta
בָּ֣א אֵלַ֔י [2] Zaqef
 
וְשָׁ֣פַטְתִּ֔י [2] Zaqef
בֵּ֥ין אִ֖ישׁ [2] Tip'cha
וּבֵ֣ין רֵעֵ֑הוּ [1] Etnachta
 
וְהוֹדַעְתִּ֛י [3] Tevir
אֶת־חֻקֵּ֥י הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
וְאֶת־תּוֹרֹתָֽיו׃ [1] Silluq

it comes to me, [2]
 
and I judge [2]
between a man [2]
and his neighbor; [1]
 
and I make known [3]
the statutes of God [2]
and his laws.” [1]

לֹא־טוֹב֙ [3] Pashta
הַדָּבָ֔ר [2] Zaqef
 
אֲשֶׁ֥ר אַתָּ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
עֹשֶֽׂה׃ [1] Silluq

the father-in-law of Moses, [2]
to him; [1]
 
“Not good [3]
is the thing [2]
 
which you [2]
are doing. [1]
18 נָבֹ֣ל תִּבֹּ֔ל [2] Zaqef
גַּם־אַתָּ֕ה [2] ZaqefG
גַּם־הָעָ֥ם הַזֶּ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
אֲשֶׁ֣ר עִמָּ֑ךְ [1] Etnachta
 
כִּֽי־כָבֵ֤ד מִמְּךָ֙ [3] Pashta
הַדָּבָ֔ר [2] Zaqef
 
לֹא־תוּכַ֥ל עֲשֹׂ֖הוּ [2] Tip'cha
לְבַדֶּֽךָ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 2 2 3 2 18 You will surely wear yourself out, [2]
both you, [2]
and these people [2]
who are with you; [1]
 
for too heavy for you [3]
is the task, [2]
 
you are not able to do it [2]
yourself alone. [1]

שְׁמַ֤ע בְּקֹלִי֙ [3] Pashta
אִיעָ֣צְךָ֔ [2] Zaqef
 
וִיהִ֥י אֱלֹהִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
עִמָּ֑ךְ [1] Etnachta
 
הֱיֵ֧ה אַתָּ֣ה לָעָ֗ם [3] Revi'i
מ֚וּל [3] Yetiv
הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים [2] Zaqef
 
וְהֵבֵאתָ֥ אַתָּ֛ה [3] Tevir
אֶת־הַדְּבָרִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
אֶל־הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ [1] Silluq

I will give you advice, [2]

You, represent the people [3]

and you, bring you [3]
the matters [2]

20 וְהִזְהַרְתָּ֣ה אֶתְהֶ֔ם [2] Zaqef
אֶת־הַחֻקִּ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
וְאֶת־הַתּוֹרֹ֑ת [1] Etnachta
 
וְהוֹדַעְתָּ֣ לָהֶ֗ם [3] Revi'i
אֶת־הַדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ [3 3] Pashta
יֵ֣לְכוּ בָ֔הּ [2] Zaqef
 
וְאֶת־הַֽמַּעֲשֶׂ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
אֲשֶׁ֥ר יַעֲשֽׂוּן׃ [1] Silluq

the statutes [2]
and the laws; [1]
 
and you shall show them [3]
the way [3 3]
in which they are to walk, [2]
 
and the work [2]
which they are to do. [1]
21 וְאַתָּ֣ה תֶחֱזֶ֣ה מִכׇּל־הָ֠עָ֠ם [4 4] TelishaG
אַנְשֵׁי־חַ֜יִל [4] Geresh
יִרְאֵ֧י אֱלֹהִ֛ים [3] Tevir
אַנְשֵׁ֥י אֱמֶ֖ת [2] Tip'cha
 
שֹׂ֣נְאֵי בָ֑צַע [1] Etnachta
 
וְשַׂמְתָּ֣ עֲלֵהֶ֗ם [3] Revi'i
שָׂרֵ֤י אֲלָפִים֙ [3] Pashta
שָׂרֵ֣י מֵא֔וֹת [2] Zaqef
 
שָׂרֵ֥י חֲמִשִּׁ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
וְשָׂרֵ֥י עֲשָׂרֹֽת׃ [1] Silluq

men of ability [4]
who fear God, [3]
men of faithfulness, [2]
 
who hate unjust gain; [1]
 
and appoint (these) over them, [3]
heads of thousands, [3]
heads of hundreds, [2]
 
heads of fifties, [2]
and heads of tens. [1]
22 וְשָׁפְט֣וּ אֶת־הָעָם֮ [3] Zarqa
בְּכׇל־עֵת֒ [2] Segol
 
וְהָיָ֞ה [4] Gershayim
כׇּל־הַדָּבָ֤ר הַגָּדֹל֙ [3] Pashta
יָבִ֣יאוּ אֵלֶ֔יךָ [2] Zaqef
 
וְכׇל־הַדָּבָ֥ר הַקָּטֹ֖ן [2] Tip'cha
יִשְׁפְּטוּ־הֵ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
וְהָקֵל֙ [3] Pashta
מֵֽעָלֶ֔יךָ [2] Zaqef
 
וְנָשְׂא֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
אִתָּֽךְ׃ [1] Silluq

all the time, [2]
 
and it shall be [4]
that every major case [3]
they shall bring to you, [2]
 
but every minor case [2]
they, they shall judge; [1]
 
so lighten (it) [3]
from on yourself, [2]
 
as they bear (it) [2]
with you. [1]
23 אִ֣ם אֶת־הַדָּבָ֤ר הַזֶּה֙ [3] Pashta
תַּעֲשֶׂ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
וְצִוְּךָ֣ אֱלֹהִ֔ים [2] Zaqef
וְיָֽכׇלְתָּ֖ [2] Tip'cha
עֲמֹ֑ד [1] Etnachta
 
וְגַם֙ [3] Pashta
כׇּל־הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
עַל־מְקֹמ֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha
יָבֹ֥א בְשָׁלֽוֹם׃ [1] Silluq

you will do, [2]
 
and God (so) commands you, [2]
then you will be able [2]
to endure; [1]
 
and also [3]
all these people, [2]
 
to their place [2]
they will go in peace.” [1]

לְק֣וֹל חֹתְנ֑וֹ [1] Etnachta
 
וַיַּ֕עַשׂ [2] ZaqefG
כֹּ֖ל [2] Tip'cha
אֲשֶׁ֥ר אָמָֽר׃ [1] Silluq

to the voice of his father-in-law; [1]
 
and he did [2]
all [2]
that he said. [1]
25 וַיִּבְחַ֨ר מֹשֶׁ֤ה אַנְשֵׁי־חַ֙יִל֙ [3 3] Pashta
מִכׇּל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל [2] Zaqef
 
וַיִּתֵּ֥ן אֹתָ֛ם [3] Tevir
רָאשִׁ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
עַל־הָעָ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
שָׂרֵ֤י אֲלָפִים֙ [3] Pashta
שָׂרֵ֣י מֵא֔וֹת [2] Zaqef
 
שָׂרֵ֥י חֲמִשִּׁ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
וְשָׂרֵ֥י עֲשָׂרֹֽת׃ [1] Silluq

from all Israel, [2]
 
and he appointed them [3]
chiefs [2]
over the people; [1]
 
heads of thousands, [3]
heads of hundreds, [2]
 
heads of fifties, [2]
and heads of tens. [1]
26 וְשָׁפְט֥וּ אֶת־הָעָ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
בְּכׇל־עֵ֑ת [1] Etnachta
 
אֶת־הַדָּבָ֤ר הַקָּשֶׁה֙ [3] Pashta
יְבִיא֣וּן אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
וְכׇל־הַדָּבָ֥ר הַקָּטֹ֖ן [2] Tip'cha
יִשְׁפּוּט֥וּ הֵֽם׃ [1] Silluq

all the time; [1]
 
the hard cases [3]
they brought to Moses, [2]
 
but every small matter [2]
they, they judged. [1]
27 וַיְשַׁלַּ֥ח מֹשֶׁ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
אֶת־חֹתְנ֑וֹ [1] Etnachta
 
וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ ל֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha
אֶל־אַרְצֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq
