1 Now while Ezra was praying [3] and confessing, [2] and casting himself down [2] the house of God; [1] a very great assembly [3] and children, [2] very bitterly. [1] ¶ |

| 2 וַיַּ֩עַן֩ שְׁכַנְיָ֨ה בֶן־יְחִיאֵ֜ל [4] Geresh מִבְּנֵ֤י *עולם **עֵילָם֙ [3] Pashta וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לְעֶזְרָ֔א [2] Zaqef מָעַ֣לְנוּ בֵאלֹהֵ֔ינוּ [2] Zaqef נָשִׁ֥ים נׇכְרִיּ֖וֹת [2] Tip'cha מֵעַמֵּ֣י הָאָ֑רֶץ [1] Etnachta יֵשׁ־מִקְוֶ֥ה לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל [2] Tip'cha עַל־זֹֽאת׃ [1] Silluq |
2 And he answered, Shecaniah the son of Jehiel [4] one of the sons of Elam, [3] and he said to Ezra, [2] we have acted unfaithfully against our God, [2] foreign women [2] from the peoples of the land; [1] there is hope for Israel [2] on this. [1] |

3 Now therefore let us make a covenant to our God, [4 4] to send out all the wives [4] and those born from them, [3] according to the counsel of the lord, [2] at the commandment of our God; [1] let it be done. [1] ¶ |

4 Arise, [3] for the matter is on you, [2] and we are with you. [1] and do it.” [1] ¶ |

5 Then Ezra arose, [4] and he made (them) swear, the leaders of the priests, the Levites, [4] and all Israel, [3] according to this, [2] |

| 6 וַיָּ֣קׇם עֶזְרָ֗א [3] Revi'i מִלִּפְנֵי֙ [3] Pashta בֵּ֣ית הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים [2] Zaqef אֶל־לִשְׁכַּ֖ת [2] Tip'cha יְהוֹחָנָ֣ן בֶּן־אֶלְיָשִׁ֑יב [1] Etnachta לֶ֤חֶם לֹֽא־אָכַל֙ [3] Pashta וּמַ֣יִם לֹֽא־שָׁתָ֔ה [2] Zaqef עַל־מַ֥עַל הַגּוֹלָֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
6 Then Ezra arose [3] from before [3] the house of God, [2] into the room [2] of Jehohanan son of Eliashib; [1] he ate no bread [3] and drank no water, [2] because of the unfaithfulness of the exiles. [1] |

7 And they made a proclamation [4] in Judah and Jerusalem [3] the children of the exile, [2] Jerusalem, [1] |

| 8 וְכֹל֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר לֹֽא־יָב֜וֹא [4] Geresh לִשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת הַיָּמִ֗ים [3] Revi'i וְהַזְּקֵנִ֔ים [2] Zaqef כׇּל־רְכוּשׁ֑וֹ [1] Etnachta מִקְּהַ֥ל הַגּוֹלָֽה׃ [1] Silluq פ |
8 and that whoever didn’t come [4] within three days, [3] and the elders, [2] all his possessions; [1] from the assembly of the exiles. [1] ¶ |

| 9 וַיִּקָּבְצ֣וּ כׇל־אַנְשֵֽׁי־יְהוּדָה֩ וּבִנְיָמִ֨ן ׀ יְרוּשָׁלַ֜͏ִם [4] Geresh לִשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת הַיָּמִ֗ים [3] Revi'i חֹ֥דֶשׁ הַתְּשִׁיעִ֖י [2] Tip'cha בִּרְחוֹב֙ [3] Pashta בֵּ֣ית הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים [2] Zaqef וּמֵהַגְּשָׁמִֽים׃ [1] Silluq פ |
9 And they gathered together, all the people of Judah and Benjamin, to Jerusalem [4] within the three days. [3] the ninth month, [2] in the open place [3] of the house of God, [2] and because of the great rain. [1] ¶ |

| 10 וַיָּ֨קׇם עֶזְרָ֤א הַכֹּהֵן֙ [3] Pashta וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵהֶ֔ם [2] Zaqef וַתֹּשִׁ֖יבוּ [2] Tip'cha נָשִׁ֣ים נׇכְרִיּ֑וֹת [1] Etnachta עַל־אַשְׁמַ֥ת יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ [1] Silluq |
10 And Ezra the priest stood up [3] and he said to them, [2] and you have married [2] foreign women; [1] to the guilt of Israel. [1] |

| 11 וְעַתָּ֗ה [3] Revi'i תְּנ֥וּ תוֹדָ֛ה [3] Tevir לַיהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵֽי־אֲבֹתֵיכֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha וַעֲשׂ֣וּ רְצוֹנ֑וֹ [1] Etnachta מֵעַמֵּ֣י הָאָ֔רֶץ [2] Zaqef הַנׇּכְרִיּֽוֹת׃ [1] Silluq ס |
11 Now therefore [3] give praise [3] to the LORD, the God of your ancestors, [2] and do his will; [1] from the peoples of the land, [2] who are foreign.” [1] § |

| 12 וַיַּֽעֲנ֧וּ כׇֽל־הַקָּהָ֛ל [3] Tevir וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ [2] Tip'cha ק֣וֹל גָּד֑וֹל [1] Etnachta *כדבריך **כִּדְבָרְךָ֥ עָלֵ֖ינוּ [2] Tip'cha לַעֲשֽׂוֹת׃ [1] Silluq |
12 Then all the assembly answered [3] and they said [2] with a loud voice; [1] As you have said, it is on us [2] to do. [1] |

| 13 אֲבָ֞ל [4] Gershayim הָעָ֥ם רָב֙ [3] Pashta וְהָעֵ֣ת גְּשָׁמִ֔ים [2] Zaqef לַעֲמ֣וֹד בַּח֑וּץ [1] Etnachta לֹֽא־לְי֤וֹם אֶחָד֙ [3] Pashta וְלֹ֣א לִשְׁנַ֔יִם [2] Zaqef בַּדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
13 But [4] the people are many, [3] and it is a time of much rain, [2] to stand outside; [1] is not that of one day [3] or two, [2] in this matter. [1] |

| 14 יַֽעַמְדוּ־נָ֣א שָׂ֠רֵ֠ינוּ [4 4] TelishaG לְֽכׇל־הַקָּהָ֞ל [4] Gershayim וְכֹ֣ל ׀ [4] Legarmeh אֲשֶׁ֣ר בֶּעָרֵ֗ינוּ [3] Revi'i נָשִׁ֤ים נׇכְרִיּוֹת֙ [3] Pashta לְעִתִּ֣ים מְזֻמָּנִ֔ים [2] Zaqef זִקְנֵי־עִ֥יר וָעִ֖יר [2] Tip'cha וְשֹׁפְטֶ֑יהָ [1] Etnachta לְהָשִׁ֞יב [4] Gershayim חֲר֤וֹן אַף־אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙ [3 3] Pashta מִמֶּ֔נּוּ [2] Zaqef לַדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּֽה׃ [1] Silluq ס |
14 Please let our leaders stand [4 4] for all the assembly, [4] and all [4] who are in our cities, [3] foreign women, [3] at appointed times, [2] the elders of each city [2] and its judges; [1] turned back [4] is the burning of the anger of our God [3 3] from us; [2] this matter is resolved.” [1] § |

15 Only Jonathan the son of Asahel [3] and Jahzeiah the son of Tikvah, [2] they stood up against this; [1] and Shabbethai the Levite, [2] they helped them. [1] |

| 16 וַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ־כֵן֮ [3] Zarqa בְּנֵ֣י הַגּוֹלָה֒ [2] Segol אֲנָשִׁ֨ים רָאשֵׁ֧י הָאָב֛וֹת [3] Tevir לְבֵ֥ית אֲבֹתָ֖ם [2] Tip'cha וְכֻלָּ֣ם בְּשֵׁמ֑וֹת [1] Etnachta בְּי֤וֹם אֶחָד֙ [3] Pashta לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הָעֲשִׂירִ֔י [2] Zaqef הַדָּבָֽר׃ [1] Silluq |
16 And they did so, [3] the children of the exile, [2] the leaders of the fathers’ households [3] for the households of their ancestors, [2] and all of them by name; [1] on the first day [3] of the tenth month, [2] the matter. [1] |

17 And they finished with everything, [2] the men [2] who had married [2] foreign women; [1] the first day [2] of the first month. [1] ¶ |

18 And there were found [3] some of the sons of the priests [2] foreign women; [1] and his brothers, [2] and Eliezer, [2] and Gedaliah. [1] |

19 And they gave their hand [2] to send out their wives; [1] for their guilt. [1] § |
