1 Now he prophecied, [4] Haggai the prophet, [3] the prophets, [2] who were in Judah [2] and in Jerusalem; [1] of the God of Israel [2] over them. [1] § |
2 Then [4] they rose up, [4] Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, [3] and Yeshua the son of Jozadak, [2] the house of God [2] which is in Jerusalem; [1] the prophets of God [2] helping them. [1] ¶ |
3 At the same time he came to them, [4] Tattenai [4 4] the governor of the region beyond the River, [3] with Shetharbozenai, [2] said to them, [2] a decree [3] to build, [2] to finish?” [1] |
4 Then like this [2] we said to them; [1] the names of the men [2] are building? [1] |
5 But the eye of their God, [3] it was [3] on the elders of the Jews, [2] until the report [2] to Darius should come; [1] they should send back the letter [2] concerning this. [1] ¶ |
6 The copy of the letter [4 4] which he sent, [4] Tattenai, [4] the governor of the region beyond the River, [3] and his companions, [2] who [2] were in the region beyond the River; [1] the king. [1] |
7 The word [2] they sent to him; [1] it was written, [2] all peace. [1] § |
8 Known [4] let it be to the king, [3] to Judea the province, [3] of the great God, [2] with great stones, [2] is being laid in the walls; [1] goes on with diligence [2] and prospers in their hands. [1] |
9 אֱדַ֗יִן [3] Revi'i שְׁאֵ֙לְנָא֙ [3 3] Pashta לְשָׂבַיָּ֣א אִלֵּ֔ךְ [2] Zaqef אֲמַ֣רְנָא לְּהֹ֑ם [1] Etnachta טְעֵ֗ם [3] Revi'i לְמִבְנְיָ֔ה [2] Zaqef לְשַׁכְלָלָֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
9 Then [3] we asked [3 3] these elders, [2] we said to them; [1] a decree [3] to build, [2] to finish?” [1] |
10 And also their names [3] we asked them, [2] to make known to you; [1] we might write the names of the men [2] who are at their head. [1] ¶ |
11 And like this the word [2] they sent back to us saying; [1] servants of the God of the heavens [4] and the earth, [3] before this [3] many years, [2] great, [2] and he finished it. [1] |
12 But [3] after our fathers had provoked to wrath [3 3] the God of the heavens, [2] of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, [2] the Kasdian; [1] he destroyed it, [2] he carried away to Babylon. [1] ¶ |
13 But [3] in the first year [2] of Babylon; [1] he made a decree, [2] to build. [1] |
14 And also [4 4] the vessels of the house of God [3] of gold and silver, [2] he had brought out [3] from the temple [3] that was in Jerusalem, [2] to the temple [2] of Babylon; [1] Cyrus the king, [3] of Babylon, [2] to one whose name was Sheshbazzar, [2] he had made him. [1] |
15 And he said to him, [2] vessels, [2] go, put them [2] that is in Jerusalem; [1] let it be built in its place.’ [1] ¶ |
16 Then [3 3] this Sheshbazzar, [2] he laid the foundations [3] of the house of God [2] which is in Jerusalem; [1] it is being built, [2] and yet it is not finished. [1] |
17 And now [4] if it seems good to the king, [3] in the house of the treasures [4] of the king there [3] which is in Babylon, [2] that from Cyrus the king [3] a decree was made, [2] this house of God [2] in Jerusalem; [1] concerning this, [2] let him send to us.” [1] ¶ |
