אֶת־אֲשֶׁ֣ר עַל־בֵּיתוֹ֮ [3] Zarqa
לֵאמֹר֒ [2] Segol
 
מַלֵּ֞א [4] Gershayim
אֶת־אַמְתְּחֹ֤ת הָֽאֲנָשִׁים֙ [3] Pashta
אֹ֔כֶל [2] Zaqef
 
כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר יוּכְל֖וּן [2] Tip'cha
שְׂאֵ֑ת [1] Etnachta
 
וְשִׂ֥ים כֶּֽסֶף־אִ֖ישׁ [2] Tip'cha
בְּפִ֥י אַמְתַּחְתּֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq

“Fill [4]
the sacks of the men [3]
with food, [2]
 
as much as they can [2]
carry; [1]
 
and put the money of each man [2]
in the mouth of his sack. [1]

וְאֵ֖ת [2] Tip'cha
כֶּ֣סֶף שִׁבְר֑וֹ [1] Etnachta
 
וַיַּ֕עַשׂ [2] ZaqefG
כִּדְבַ֥ר יוֹסֵ֖ף [2] Tip'cha
אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבֵּֽר׃ [1] Silluq

in the mouth [3]
of the sack of the youngest, [2]

the money for his grain.” [1]

according to the word of Joseph [2]
which he had spoken. [1]

the men were sent off, [2]

and their donkeys. [1]

וְיוֹסֵ֤ף אָמַר֙ [3] Pashta
לַֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר עַל־בֵּית֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
 
ק֥וּם רְדֹ֖ף [2] Tip'cha
אַחֲרֵ֣י הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֑ים [1] Etnachta
 
וְהִשַּׂגְתָּם֙ [3] Pashta
וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֲלֵהֶ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
לָ֛מָּה [3] Tevir
שִׁלַּמְתֶּ֥ם רָעָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
תַּ֥חַת טוֹבָֽה׃ [1] Silluq

to the one over his household, [2]
 
“Arise, follow [2]
after the men; [1]
 
and when you overtake them [3]
say to them, [2]
 
‘Why [3]
have you repaid evil [2]
for good? [1]

and he spoke to them [2]
the words, [2]

7 וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ אֵלָ֔יו [2] Zaqef
 
לָ֚מָּה [3] Yetiv
יְדַבֵּ֣ר אֲדֹנִ֔י [2] Zaqef
 
כַּדְּבָרִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
הָאֵ֑לֶּה [1] Etnachta
 
חָלִ֙ילָה֙ [3 3] Pashta
לַעֲבָדֶ֔יךָ [2] Zaqef
 
מֵעֲשׂ֖וֹת [2] Tip'cha
כַּדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּֽה׃ [1] Silluq

“Why [3]
does my master speak [2]
 
such words as [2]
these? [1]
 
Far be it [3 3]
to your servants [2]
 
from doing [2]
such a thing as this! [1]

אֲשֶׁ֤ר מָצָ֙אנוּ֙ [3 3] Pashta
בְּפִ֣י אַמְתְּחֹתֵ֔ינוּ [2] Zaqef
 
הֱשִׁיבֹ֥נוּ אֵלֶ֖יךָ [2] Tip'cha
מֵאֶ֣רֶץ כְּנָ֑עַן [1] Etnachta
 
וְאֵ֗יךְ [3] Revi'i
נִגְנֹב֙ [3] Pashta
מִבֵּ֣ית אֲדֹנֶ֔יךָ [2] Zaqef
 
כֶּ֖סֶף [2] Tip'cha
א֥וֹ זָהָֽב׃ [1] Silluq

in the mouth of our sacks, [2]
 
we brought back to you [2]
from the land of Canaan; [1]
 
so why [3]
would we steal [3]
from the house of your master [2]

9 אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִמָּצֵ֥א אִתּ֛וֹ [3] Tevir
מֵעֲבָדֶ֖יךָ [2] Tip'cha
וָמֵ֑ת [1] Etnachta
 
וְגַם־אֲנַ֕חְנוּ [2] ZaqefG
נִֽהְיֶ֥ה לַֽאדֹנִ֖י [2] Tip'cha
לַעֲבָדִֽים׃ [1] Silluq

of your servants, [2]
let him die; [1]
 
and also we, [2]
we will be my lord’s [2]
slaves.” [1]
10 וַיֹּ֕אמֶר [2] ZaqefG
גַּם־עַתָּ֥ה כְדִבְרֵיכֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
כֶּן־ה֑וּא [1] Etnachta
 
אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִמָּצֵ֤א אִתּוֹ֙ [3] Pashta
יִהְיֶה־לִּ֣י עָ֔בֶד [2] Zaqef
 
וְאַתֶּ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
תִּהְי֥וּ נְקִיִּֽם׃ [1] Silluq

“Now also according to your words [2]
let it be. [1]
 
He with whom it is found, [3]
he will be a slave to me, [2]
 
and you, [2]
you will be blameless.” [1]
11 וַֽיְמַהֲר֗וּ [3] Revi'i
וַיּוֹרִ֛דוּ [3] Tevir
אִ֥ישׁ אֶת־אַמְתַּחְתּ֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha
אָ֑רְצָה [1] Etnachta
 
וַֽיִּפְתְּח֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
אִ֥ישׁ אַמְתַּחְתּֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq

and they took down [3]
each man his sack, [2]
to the ground; [1]
 
and they opened [2]
each man his sack. [1]
12 וַיְחַפֵּ֕שׂ [2] ZaqefG
בַּגָּד֣וֹל הֵחֵ֔ל [2] Zaqef
וּבַקָּטֹ֖ן [2] Tip'cha
כִּלָּ֑ה [1] Etnachta
 
וַיִּמָּצֵא֙ [3] Pashta
הַגָּבִ֔יעַ [2] Zaqef
 
בְּאַמְתַּ֖חַת [2] Tip'cha
בִּנְיָמִֽן׃ [1] Silluq

beginning with the oldest, [2]
and with the youngest [2]
he finished; [1]
 
and it was found, [3]
the cup, [2]
 
in the sack [2]
of Benjamin. [1]
13 וַֽיִּקְרְע֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
שִׂמְלֹתָ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
וַֽיַּעֲמֹס֙ [3] Pashta
אִ֣ישׁ עַל־חֲמֹר֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
 
וַיָּשֻׁ֖בוּ [2] Tip'cha
הָעִֽירָה׃ [1] Silluq

their clothes; [1]
 
and he loaded [3]
each man on his donkey, [2]
 
and they returned [2]
to the city. [1]
14 וַיָּבֹ֨א יְהוּדָ֤ה וְאֶחָיו֙ [3] Pashta
בֵּ֣יתָה יוֹסֵ֔ף [2] Zaqef
 
וְה֖וּא [2] Tip'cha
עוֹדֶ֣נּוּ שָׁ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
וַיִּפְּל֥וּ לְפָנָ֖יו [2] Tip'cha
אָֽרְצָה׃ [1] Silluq

to the house of Joseph, [2]
 
and he, [2]
he was still there; [1]
 
and they fell before him [2]
on the ground. [1]
15 וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לָהֶם֙ [3] Pashta
יוֹסֵ֔ף [2] Zaqef
 
מָֽה־הַמַּעֲשֶׂ֥ה הַזֶּ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
אֲשֶׁ֣ר עֲשִׂיתֶ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
הֲל֣וֹא יְדַעְתֶּ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
כִּֽי־נַחֵ֧שׁ יְנַחֵ֛שׁ [3] Tevir
אִ֖ישׁ [2] Tip'cha
אֲשֶׁ֥ר כָּמֹֽנִי׃ [1] Silluq

Joseph, [2]
 
“What deed is this [2]
which you have done? [1]
 
Don’t you know, [2]
 
that he indeed practices divination, [3]
a man [2]
such as I?” [1]
16 וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוּדָ֗ה [3] Revi'i
מַה־נֹּאמַר֙ [3] Pashta
לַֽאדֹנִ֔י [2] Zaqef
 
מַה־נְּדַבֵּ֖ר [2] Tip'cha
וּמַה־נִּצְטַדָּ֑ק [1] Etnachta
 
הָאֱלֹהִ֗ים [3] Revi'i
מָצָא֙ [3] Pashta
אֶת־עֲוֺ֣ן עֲבָדֶ֔יךָ [2] Zaqef
 
הִנֶּ֤נּוּ עֲבָדִים֙ [3] Pashta
לַֽאדֹנִ֔י [2] Zaqef
 
גַּם־אֲנַ֕חְנוּ [2] ZaqefG
 
גַּ֛ם [3] Tevir
אֲשֶׁר־נִמְצָ֥א הַגָּבִ֖יעַ [2] Tip'cha

“What will we say [3]
to my lord? [2]
 
What will we speak? [2]
And how will we clear ourselves? [1]
 
God, [3]
he has found [3]
the guilt of your servants. [2]
 
Behold, we are slaves [3]
to my lord, [2]
 
both we, [2]
 
and [3]
the one whom the cup was found [2]
in his hand.” [1]

אֲשֶׁר֩ נִמְצָ֨א הַגָּבִ֜יעַ [4] Geresh
בְּיָד֗וֹ [3] Revi'i
 
ה֚וּא [3] Yetiv
יִהְיֶה־לִּ֣י עָ֔בֶד [2] Zaqef
 
וְאַתֶּ֕ם [2] ZaqefG
עֲל֥וּ לְשָׁל֖וֹם [2] Tip'cha
אֶל־אֲבִיכֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq

“Far be it to me [2]

The man [4]
whom the cup was found [4]
in his hand, [3]
 
he, [3]
he will be to me a slave, [2]
 
and you, [2]
go up in peace [2]
to your father.” [1]

יְדַבֶּר־נָ֨א עַבְדְּךָ֤ דָבָר֙ [3] Pashta
בְּאׇזְנֵ֣י אֲדֹנִ֔י [2] Zaqef
 
וְאַל־יִ֥חַר אַפְּךָ֖ [2] Tip'cha
בְּעַבְדֶּ֑ךָ [1] Etnachta
 
כִּ֥י כָמ֖וֹךָ [2] Tip'cha
כְּפַרְעֹֽה׃ [1] Silluq

“Pardon me, Oh my lord, [2]
 
please let your servant speak a word [3]
in the ears of my lord, [2]
 
and don’t let your anger burn [2]
against your servant; [1]
 
for you are even [2]
as Pharaoh. [1]

הֲיֵשׁ־לָכֶ֥ם אָ֖ב [2] Tip'cha

his servants [2]
saying; [1]
 
‘Have you a father [2]
or a brother?’ [1]
20 וַנֹּ֙אמֶר֙ [3 3] Pashta
אֶל־אֲדֹנִ֔י [2] Zaqef
 
יֶשׁ־לָ֙נוּ֙ [3 3] Pashta
אָ֣ב זָקֵ֔ן [2] Zaqef
 
וְיֶ֥לֶד זְקֻנִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
קָטָ֑ן [1] Etnachta
 
וְאָחִ֣יו מֵ֔ת [2] Zaqef
 
וַיִּוָּתֵ֨ר ה֧וּא לְבַדּ֛וֹ [3] Tevir
לְאִמּ֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha
וְאָבִ֥יו אֲהֵבֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq

to my lord, [2]
 
‘We have [3 3]
an old father, [2]
 
and a child of his old age, [2]
a young one; [1]
 
and his brother, he died, [2]
 
and he was left, he, he alone [3]
to his mother, [2]
and his father loves him.’ [1]

הוֹרִדֻ֖הוּ [2] Tip'cha

וְאָשִׂ֥ימָה עֵינִ֖י [2] Tip'cha
עָלָֽיו׃ [1] Silluq

to your servants, [2]
 
‘Bring him down [2]
to me; [1]
 
that I may set my eyes [2]
on him.’ [1]
22 וַנֹּ֙אמֶר֙ [3 3] Pashta
אֶל־אֲדֹנִ֔י [2] Zaqef
 
לֹא־יוּכַ֥ל הַנַּ֖עַר [2] Tip'cha
לַעֲזֹ֣ב אֶת־אָבִ֑יו [1] Etnachta
 
וְעָזַ֥ב אֶת־אָבִ֖יו [2] Tip'cha
וָמֵֽת׃ [1] Silluq

to my lord, [2]
 
‘The young man will not be able [2]
to leave his father; [1]
 
for if he should leave his father, [2]
he would die.’ [1]
23 וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ [3 3] Pashta
אֶל־עֲבָדֶ֔יךָ [2] Zaqef
 
אִם־לֹ֥א יֵרֵ֛ד [3] Tevir
אֲחִיכֶ֥ם הַקָּטֹ֖ן [2] Tip'cha
אִתְּכֶ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
לֹ֥א תֹסִפ֖וּן [2] Tip'cha
לִרְא֥וֹת פָּנָֽי׃ [1] Silluq

to your servants, [2]
 
‘Unless he comes down, [3]
your youngest brother [2]
with you; [1]
 
you will not again [2]
see my face.’ [1]
24 וַיְהִי֙ [3] Pashta
כִּ֣י עָלִ֔ינוּ [2] Zaqef
 
אֶֽל־עַבְדְּךָ֖ [2] Tip'cha
אָבִ֑י [1] Etnachta
 
וַנַּ֨גֶּד־ל֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
אֵ֖ת [2] Tip'cha
דִּבְרֵ֥י אֲדֹנִֽי׃ [1] Silluq

when we went up [2]
 
to your servant [2]
my father; [1]
 
we told him [2]
the [2]
words of my lord. [1]
25 וַיֹּ֖אמֶר [2] Tip'cha
אָבִ֑ינוּ [1] Etnachta
 
שֻׁ֖בוּ [2] Tip'cha
שִׁבְרוּ־לָ֥נוּ מְעַט־אֹֽכֶל׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 25 Then he said, [2]
our father; [1]
 
‘Go back, [2]
buy for us a little food.’ [1]
26 וַנֹּ֕אמֶר [2] ZaqefG
לֹ֥א נוּכַ֖ל [2] Tip'cha
לָרֶ֑דֶת [1] Etnachta
 
אִם־יֵשׁ֩ אָחִ֨ינוּ הַקָּטֹ֤ן אִתָּ֙נוּ֙ [3 3] Pashta
וְיָרַ֔דְנוּ [2] Zaqef
 
כִּי־לֹ֣א נוּכַ֗ל [3] Revi'i
לִרְאוֹת֙ [3] Pashta
פְּנֵ֣י הָאִ֔ישׁ [2] Zaqef
 
וְאָחִ֥ינוּ הַקָּטֹ֖ן [2] Tip'cha
אֵינֶ֥נּוּ אִתָּֽנוּ׃ [1] Silluq

‘We are not able [2]
to go down. [1]
 
If our youngest brother is with us [3 3]
then we will go down, [2]
 
for we will not be able [3]
to see [3]
the face of the man, [2]
 
if our youngest brother, [2]
he is not with us.’ [1]
27 וַיֹּ֛אמֶר [3] Tevir
עַבְדְּךָ֥ אָבִ֖י [2] Tip'cha
אֵלֵ֑ינוּ [1] Etnachta
 
אַתֶּ֣ם יְדַעְתֶּ֔ם [2] Zaqef
כִּ֥י שְׁנַ֖יִם [2] Tip'cha
יָֽלְדָה־לִּ֥י אִשְׁתִּֽי׃ [1] Silluq

your servant my father, [2]
to us; [1]
 
‘You, you know [2]
that two sons [2]
my wife bore to me. [1]
28 וַיֵּצֵ֤א הָֽאֶחָד֙ [3] Pashta
מֵֽאִתִּ֔י [2] Zaqef
 
וָאֹמַ֕ר [2] ZaqefG
אַ֖ךְ [2] Tip'cha
טָרֹ֣ף טֹרָ֑ף [1] Etnachta
 
וְלֹ֥א רְאִיתִ֖יו [2] Tip'cha
עַד־הֵֽנָּה׃ [1] Silluq

from me, [2]
 
and I said, [2]
“Surely, [2]
surely he has been torn to pieces,” [1]
 
and I have not seen him [2]
since. [1]
29 וּלְקַחְתֶּ֧ם גַּם־אֶת־זֶ֛ה [3] Tevir
מֵעִ֥ם פָּנַ֖י [2] Tip'cha
וְקָרָ֣הוּ אָס֑וֹן [1] Etnachta
 
וְהֽוֹרַדְתֶּ֧ם אֶת־שֵׂיבָתִ֛י [3] Tevir
בְּרָעָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
שְׁאֹֽלָה׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 3 29 And if you take this one also [3]
from my presence, [2]
and harm happens to him; [1]
 
you will bring down my gray hair [3]
in tragedy [2]
to Sheol.’ [1]
30 וְעַתָּ֗ה [3] Revi'i
כְּבֹאִי֙ [3] Pashta
אֶל־עַבְדְּךָ֣ אָבִ֔י [2] Zaqef
 
וְהַנַּ֖עַר [2] Tip'cha
אֵינֶ֣נּוּ אִתָּ֑נוּ [1] Etnachta
 
וְנַפְשׁ֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha
קְשׁוּרָ֥ה בְנַפְשֽׁוֹ׃ [1] Silluq

when I come [3]
to your servant my father, [2]
 
and the boy, [2]
he is not with us; [1]
 
since his life [2]
is bound up with his life, [1]
31 וְהָיָ֗ה [3] Revi'i
כִּרְאוֹת֛וֹ [3] Tevir
כִּי־אֵ֥ין הַנַּ֖עַר [2] Tip'cha
וָמֵ֑ת [1] Etnachta
 
וְהוֹרִ֨ידוּ עֲבָדֶ֜יךָ [4] Geresh
אֶת־שֵׂיבַ֨ת עַבְדְּךָ֥ אָבִ֛ינוּ [3] Tevir
בְּיָג֖וֹן [2] Tip'cha
שְׁאֹֽלָה׃ [1] Silluq

when he sees [3]
that the young man is no more, [2]
that he will die; [1]
 
and your servants will bring down [4]
the gray hair of your servant, our father [3]
in grief, [2]
to Sheol. [1]
32 כִּ֤י עַבְדְּךָ֙ [3] Pashta
עָרַ֣ב אֶת־הַנַּ֔עַר [2] Zaqef
 
מֵעִ֥ם אָבִ֖י [2] Tip'cha
לֵאמֹ֑ר [1] Etnachta
 
אִם־לֹ֤א אֲבִיאֶ֙נּוּ֙ [3 3] Pashta
אֵלֶ֔יךָ [2] Zaqef
 
וְחָטָ֥אתִי לְאָבִ֖י [2] Tip'cha
כׇּל־הַיָּמִֽים׃ [1] Silluq

he became collateral for the young man [2]
 
to my father [2]
saying; [1]
 
‘If I don’t bring him [3 3]
to you, [2]
 
then I will bear the blame to my father [2]
forever.’ [1]
33 וְעַתָּ֗ה [3] Revi'i
יֵֽשֶׁב־נָ֤א עַבְדְּךָ֙ [3] Pashta
תַּ֣חַת הַנַּ֔עַר [2] Zaqef
 
עֶ֖בֶד [2] Tip'cha
לַֽאדֹנִ֑י [1] Etnachta
 
וְהַנַּ֖עַר [2] Tip'cha
יַ֥עַל עִם־אֶחָֽיו׃ [1] Silluq

please let your servant stay [3]
in place of the young man, [2]
 
a slave [2]
to my lord; [1]
 
and the boy, [2]
let him go up with his brothers. [1]
34 כִּי־אֵיךְ֙ [3] Pashta
אֶֽעֱלֶ֣ה אֶל־אָבִ֔י [2] Zaqef
 
וְהַנַּ֖עַר [2] Tip'cha
אֵינֶ֣נּוּ אִתִּ֑י [1] Etnachta
 
פֶּ֚ן [3] Yetiv
אֶרְאֶ֣ה בָרָ֔ע [2] Zaqef
 
אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִמְצָ֖א [2] Tip'cha
אֶת־אָבִֽי׃ [1] Silluq

will I go up to my father [2]
 
if the boy, [2]
he isn’t with me? [1]
 
lest [3]
I should see the evil [2]
 
which will come on [2]
