הָיָ֥ה בְאֶֽרֶץ־ע֖וּץ [2] Tip'cha
אִיּ֣וֹב שְׁמ֑וֹ [1] Etnachta
 
וְהָיָ֣ה ׀ [4] Legarmeh
הָאִ֣ישׁ הַה֗וּא [3] Revi'i
 
תָּ֧ם וְיָשָׁ֛ר [3] Tevir
וִירֵ֥א אֱלֹהִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
 
וְסָ֥ר מֵרָֽע׃ [1] Silluq

there was in the land of Uz, [2]
whose name was Job; [1]
 
and he was, [4]
that man, [3]
 
blameless and upright [3]
and one who feared God, [2]
 
and who turned away from evil. [1]
2 וַיִּוָּ֥לְדוּ ל֛וֹ [3] Tevir
שִׁבְעָ֥ה בָנִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
וְשָׁל֥וֹשׁ בָּנֽוֹת׃ [1] Silluq
2 3 2 And they were born to him [3]
seven sons, [2]
and three daughters. [1]
3 וַיְהִ֣י מִ֠קְנֵ֠הוּ [4 4] TelishaG
שִֽׁבְעַ֨ת אַלְפֵי־צֹ֜אן [4] Geresh
וּשְׁלֹ֧שֶׁת אַלְפֵ֣י גְמַלִּ֗ים [3] Revi'i
 
וַחֲמֵ֨שׁ מֵא֤וֹת צֶֽמֶד־בָּקָר֙ [3] Pashta
וַחֲמֵ֣שׁ מֵא֣וֹת אֲתוֹנ֔וֹת [2] Zaqef
 
וַעֲבֻדָּ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
רַבָּ֣ה מְאֹ֑ד [1] Etnachta
 
וַֽיְהִי֙ [3] Pashta
הָאִ֣ישׁ הַה֔וּא [2] Zaqef
 
גָּד֖וֹל [2] Tip'cha
מִכׇּל־בְּנֵי־קֶֽדֶם׃ [1] Silluq

seven thousand sheep [4]
and three thousand camels, [3]
 
and five hundred pairs of oxen [3]
and five hundred female donkeys, [2]
 
and servants [2]

more than all the people of the east. [1]
4 וְהָלְכ֤וּ בָנָיו֙ [3] Pashta
וְעָשׂ֣וּ מִשְׁתֶּ֔ה [2] Zaqef

אִ֣ישׁ יוֹמ֑וֹ [1] Etnachta
 
וְשָׁלְח֗וּ [3] Revi'i
וְקָֽרְאוּ֙ [3] Pashta
לִשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת אַחְיֹתֵיהֶ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
לֶאֱכֹ֥ל וְלִשְׁתּ֖וֹת [2] Tip'cha
עִמָּהֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq

and they made a feast, [2]
 
the house [2]
of each one his day; [1]
 
and they sent, [3]
and they invited [3]
their three sisters [2]
 
to eat and to drink [2]
with them. [1]
5 וַיְהִ֡י [4] Pazer
כִּ֣י הִקִּ֩יפוּ֩ יְמֵ֨י הַמִּשְׁתֶּ֜ה [4] Geresh
וַיִּשְׁלַ֧ח אִיּ֣וֹב וַֽיְקַדְּשֵׁ֗ם [3] Revi'i
 
וְהִשְׁכִּ֣ים בַּבֹּ֘קֶר֮ [3 3] Zarqa
וְהֶעֱלָ֣ה עֹלוֹת֮ [3] Zarqa
מִסְפַּ֣ר כֻּלָּם֒ [2] Segol
 
כִּ֚י [3] Yetiv
אָמַ֣ר אִיּ֔וֹב [2] Zaqef
 
אוּלַי֙ [3] Pashta
חָטְא֣וּ בָנַ֔י [2] Zaqef
 
וּבֵרְכ֥וּ אֱלֹהִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
בִּלְבָבָ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
כָּ֛כָה [3] Tevir
יַעֲשֶׂ֥ה אִיּ֖וֹב [2] Tip'cha
כׇּל־הַיָּמִֽים׃ [1] Silluq

when the days of the feasting had run their course [4]
Job sent and he sanctified them, [3]
 
and he arose early in the morning, [3 3]
and he offered up burnt offerings [3]
of the number of all of them, [2]
 
for [3]
Job said, [2]
 
“Perhaps [3]
my children have sinned, [2]
 
and renounced God [2]
in their hearts.” [1]
 
Thus [3]
Job did [2]
continually. [1]
6 וַיְהִ֣י הַיּ֔וֹם [2] Zaqef
 
וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ [3 3] Pashta
בְּנֵ֣י הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים [2] Zaqef
 
לְהִתְיַצֵּ֖ב [2] Tip'cha
עַל־יְהֹוָ֑ה [1] Etnachta
 
וַיָּב֥וֹא גַֽם־הַשָּׂטָ֖ן [2] Tip'cha
בְּתוֹכָֽם׃ [1] Silluq

when they came, [3 3]
the sons of God, [2]
 
to present themselves [2]
before the LORD; [1]
 
the adversary also came [2]
among them. [1]
7 וַיֹּ֧אמֶר יְהֹוָ֛ה [3] Tevir
אֶל־הַשָּׂטָ֖ן [2] Tip'cha
מֵאַ֣יִן תָּבֹ֑א [1] Etnachta
 
וַיַּ֨עַן הַשָּׂטָ֤ן אֶת־יְהֹוָה֙ [3] Pashta
וַיֹּאמַ֔ר [2] Zaqef
 
מִשּׁ֣וּט בָּאָ֔רֶץ [2] Zaqef
וּמֵֽהִתְהַלֵּ֖ךְ [2] Tip'cha
בָּֽהּ׃ [1] Silluq

to the adversary, [2]
“From where are you coming?” [1]
 
And the adversary answered the LORD [3]
and he said, [2]
 
“From going to and fro on the earth, [2]
and from walking up and down [2]
on it.” [1]
8 וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהֹוָה֙ [3] Pashta
אֶל־הַשָּׂטָ֔ן [2] Zaqef
 
הֲשַׂ֥מְתָּ לִבְּךָ֖ [2] Tip'cha
עַל־עַבְדִּ֣י אִיּ֑וֹב [1] Etnachta
 
כִּ֣י אֵ֤ין כָּמֹ֙הוּ֙ [3 3] Pashta
בָּאָ֔רֶץ [2] Zaqef
 
אִ֣ישׁ תָּ֧ם וְיָשָׁ֛ר [3] Tevir
יְרֵ֥א אֱלֹהִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
וְסָ֥ר מֵרָֽע׃ [1] Silluq

to the adversary, [2]
 
“Have you considered [2]
my servant Job? [1]
 
For there is none like him [3 3]
on the earth, [2]
 
a man blameless and upright, [3]
fearing God, [2]
and who turns aside from evil.” [1]
9 וַיַּ֧עַן הַשָּׂטָ֛ן [3] Tevir
אֶת־יְהֹוָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
וַיֹּאמַ֑ר [1] Etnachta
 
הַֽחִנָּ֔ם [2] Zaqef
יָרֵ֥א אִיּ֖וֹב [2] Tip'cha
אֱלֹהִֽים׃ [1] Silluq

the LORD, [2]
and he said; [1]
 
“Is it for nothing [2]
that Job fears [2]
God? [1]
10 הֲלֹֽא־*את **אַ֠תָּ֠ה [4 4] TelishaG
שַׂ֣כְתָּ בַעֲד֧וֹ וּבְעַד־בֵּית֛וֹ [3] Tevir
וּבְעַ֥ד כׇּל־אֲשֶׁר־ל֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha
מִסָּבִ֑יב [1] Etnachta
 
מַעֲשֵׂ֤ה יָדָיו֙ [3] Pashta
בֵּרַ֔כְתָּ [2] Zaqef
 
וּמִקְנֵ֖הוּ [2] Tip'cha
פָּרַ֥ץ בָּאָֽרֶץ׃ [1] Silluq

put a hedge around him and around his house, [3]
and around all that he has, [2]
from every side? [1]
 
The work of his hands [3]
you have blessed, [2]
 
and his livestock, [2]
it is increased in the land. [1]
11 וְאוּלָם֙ [3] Pashta
שְֽׁלַֽח־נָ֣א יָֽדְךָ֔ [2] Zaqef
 
וְגַ֖ע [2] Tip'cha
בְּכׇל־אֲשֶׁר־ל֑וֹ [1] Etnachta
 
אִם־לֹ֥א עַל־פָּנֶ֖יךָ [2] Tip'cha
יְבָרְכֶֽךָּ׃ [1] Silluq

now stretch out your hand, [2]
 
and touch [2]
all that he has; [1]
 
if not to your face [2]
he will renounce you.” [1]
12 וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהֹוָ֜ה [4] Geresh
אֶל־הַשָּׂטָ֗ן [3] Revi'i
 
הִנֵּ֤ה כׇל־אֲשֶׁר־לוֹ֙ [3] Pashta
בְּיָדֶ֔ךָ [2] Zaqef
 
רַ֣ק אֵלָ֔יו [2] Zaqef
אַל־תִּשְׁלַ֖ח [2] Tip'cha
יָדֶ֑ךָ [1] Etnachta
 
וַיֵּצֵא֙ [3] Pashta
הַשָּׂטָ֔ן [2] Zaqef
 
מֵעִ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
פְּנֵ֥י יְהֹוָֽה׃ [1] Silluq

to the adversary, [3]
 
“Behold, all that he has [3]
is in your hand. [2]
 
Only against himself, [2]
do not stretch out [2]
your hand.” [1]
 
So he went out, [3]
the adversary, [2]
 
from [2]
the presence of the LORD. [1]
13 וַיְהִ֖י [2] Tip'cha
הַיּ֑וֹם [1] Etnachta
 
וּבָנָ֨יו וּבְנֹתָ֤יו אֹֽכְלִים֙ [3] Pashta
וְשֹׁתִ֣ים יַ֔יִן [2] Zaqef
 
בְּבֵ֖ית [2] Tip'cha
אֲחִיהֶ֥ם הַבְּכֽוֹר׃ [1] Silluq

the day; [1]
 
that his sons and his daughters were eating [3]
and drinking wine [2]
 
in the house [2]
of their oldest brother, [1]
14 וּמַלְאָ֛ךְ [3] Tevir
בָּ֥א אֶל־אִיּ֖וֹב [2] Tip'cha
וַיֹּאמַ֑ר [1] Etnachta
 
הַבָּקָר֙ [3] Pashta
הָי֣וּ חֹֽרְשׁ֔וֹת [2] Zaqef
 
וְהָאֲתֹנ֖וֹת [2] Tip'cha
רֹע֥וֹת עַל־יְדֵיהֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq

he came to Job, [2]
and he said; [1]
 
“The oxen, [3]
they were plowing, [2]
 
and the donkeys [2]
grazing beside them, [1]
15 וַתִּפֹּ֤ל שְׁבָא֙ [3] Pashta
וַתִּקָּחֵ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
וְאֶת־הַנְּעָרִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
הִכּ֣וּ לְפִי־חָ֑רֶב [1] Etnachta
 
וָאִמָּ֨לְטָ֧ה רַק־אֲנִ֛י [3] Tevir
לְבַדִּ֖י [2] Tip'cha
לְהַגִּ֥יד לָֽךְ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 3 15 then the Sabeans attacked [3]
and took them away, [2]
 
and the servants [2]
they struck down with the edge of the sword; [1]
 
and only I have escaped [3]
I alone, [2]
to tell you.” [1]
16 ע֣וֹד ׀ [4] Legarmeh
זֶ֣ה מְדַבֵּ֗ר [3] Revi'i
 
וְזֶה֮ [3] Zarqa
בָּ֣א וַיֹּאמַר֒ [2] Segol
 
אֵ֣שׁ אֱלֹהִ֗ים [3] Revi'i
נָֽפְלָה֙ [3] Pashta
מִן־הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם [2] Zaqef
 
וַתִּבְעַ֥ר בַּצֹּ֛אן [3] Tevir
וּבַנְּעָרִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
וַתֹּֽאכְלֵ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
וָאִמָּ֨לְטָ֧ה רַק־אֲנִ֛י [3] Tevir
לְבַדִּ֖י [2] Tip'cha
לְהַגִּ֥יד לָֽךְ׃ [1] Silluq

he came and said, [2]
 
“The fire of God, [3]
it fell [3]
from the heavens, [2]
 
and it burned up the sheep [3]
and the servants, [2]
and it consumed them; [1]
 
and only I have escaped [3]
I alone, [2]
to tell you.” [1]
17 ע֣וֹד ׀ [4] Legarmeh
זֶ֣ה מְדַבֵּ֗ר [3] Revi'i
 
וְזֶה֮ [3] Zarqa
בָּ֣א וַיֹּאמַר֒ [2] Segol
 
כַּשְׂדִּ֞ים [4] Gershayim
שָׂ֣מוּ ׀ [4] Legarmeh
שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה רָאשִׁ֗ים [3] Revi'i
 
וַֽיִּפְשְׁט֤וּ עַל־הַגְּמַלִּים֙ [3] Pashta
וַיִּקָּח֔וּם [2] Zaqef
 
וְאֶת־הַנְּעָרִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
הִכּ֣וּ לְפִי־חָ֑רֶב [1] Etnachta
 
וָאִמָּ֨לְטָ֧ה רַק־אֲנִ֛י [3] Tevir
לְבַדִּ֖י [2] Tip'cha
לְהַגִּ֥יד לָֽךְ׃ [1] Silluq

“The Kasdim, [4]
they formed [4]
three companies, [3]
 
and they swept down on the camels [3]
and they took them away, [2]
 
and the servants [2]
they struck down with the edge of the sword; [1]
 
and only I have escaped [3]
I alone, [2]
to tell you.” [1]
18 עַ֚ד [3] Yetiv
זֶ֣ה מְדַבֵּ֔ר [2] Zaqef
 
וְזֶ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
בָּ֣א וַיֹּאמַ֑ר [1] Etnachta
 
בָּנֶ֨יךָ וּבְנוֹתֶ֤יךָ אֹֽכְלִים֙ [3] Pashta
וְשֹׁתִ֣ים יַ֔יִן [2] Zaqef
 
בְּבֵ֖ית [2] Tip'cha
אֲחִיהֶ֥ם הַבְּכֽוֹר׃ [1] Silluq

he came and said; [1]
 
“Your sons and your daughters were eating [3]
and drinking wine [2]
 
in the house [2]

19 וְהִנֵּה֩ ר֨וּחַ גְּדוֹלָ֜ה [4] Geresh
בָּ֣אָה ׀ [4] Legarmeh
מֵעֵ֣בֶר הַמִּדְבָּ֗ר [3] Revi'i
 
וַיִּגַּע֙ [3] Pashta
בְּאַרְבַּע֙ [3] Pashta
פִּנּ֣וֹת הַבַּ֔יִת [2] Zaqef
 
וַיִּפֹּ֥ל עַל־הַנְּעָרִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
וַיָּמ֑וּתוּ [1] Etnachta
 
וָאִמָּ֨לְטָ֧ה רַק־אֲנִ֛י [3] Tevir
לְבַדִּ֖י [2] Tip'cha
לְהַגִּ֥יד לָֽךְ׃ [1] Silluq

it came [4]
from across the wilderness, [3]
 
and it touched [3]
on the four [3]
the corners of the house, [2]
 
and it fell on the young men [2]
and they died; [1]
 
and only I have escaped [3]
I alone, [2]
to tell you.” [1]
20 וַיָּ֤קׇם אִיּוֹב֙ [3] Pashta
וַיִּקְרַ֣ע אֶת־מְעִל֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
 
וַיָּ֖גׇז [2] Tip'cha
אֶת־רֹאשׁ֑וֹ [1] Etnachta
 
וַיִּפֹּ֥ל אַ֖רְצָה [2] Tip'cha
וַיִּשְׁתָּֽחוּ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 20 Then Job arose [3]
and he tore his robe, [2]
 
and he shaved [2]
his head; [1]
 
and he fell to the ground [2]
and he bowed down. [1]
21 וַיֹּ֩אמֶר֩ עָרֹ֨ם יָצָ֜תִי [4] Geresh
מִבֶּ֣טֶן אִמִּ֗י [3] Revi'i
 
וְעָרֹם֙ [3] Pashta
אָשׁ֣וּב שָׁ֔מָּה [2] Zaqef
 
יְהֹוָ֣ה נָתַ֔ן [2] Zaqef
וַֽיהֹוָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
לָקָ֑ח [1] Etnachta
 
יְהִ֛י [3] Tevir
שֵׁ֥ם יְהֹוָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
מְבֹרָֽךְ׃ [1] Silluq

from the womb of my mother, [3]
 
and naked [3]
will I return there. [2]
 
The LORD gave, [2]
and the LORD, [2]
he has taken; [1]
 
let [3]
the name of the LORD [2]
be blessed.” [1]
22 בְּכׇל־זֹ֖את [2] Tip'cha
לֹא־חָטָ֣א אִיּ֑וֹב [1] Etnachta
 
וְלֹא־נָתַ֥ן תִּפְלָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
לֵאלֹהִֽים׃ [1] Silluq

Job did not sin; [1]
 
and he made no charge of wrongdoing [2]
to God. [1]
