יונה 1 | Jonah 1 | |||
[1] Silluq |
1 Now it came, [3] the word of the LORD [2] saying, [1] |
|||
2 “Arise, [4] go to Nineveh [3] the great city [2] and proclaim against it; [1] before me.” [1] |
|||
3 But Jonah rose up [3] to flee to Tarshish, [2] the LORD; [1] and he found a ship [4] which was going to Tarshish, [3] and he went down into it [3] to Tarshish, [2] the LORD. [1] |
|||
4 וַֽיהֹוָ֗ה [3] Revi'i הֵטִ֤יל רֽוּחַ־גְּדוֹלָה֙ [3] Pashta אֶל־הַיָּ֔ם [2] Zaqef בַּיָּ֑ם [1] Etnachta חִשְּׁבָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha לְהִשָּׁבֵֽר׃ [1] Silluq |
4 But the LORD, [3] he sent out a great wind [3] on the sea, [2] on the sea; [1] was likely [2] to break up. [1] |
|||
5 Then the sailors were afraid, [3] and they cried for help [3] each man to his gods, [2] which was in the ship [3] into the sea [2] the ship; [1] he had gone down [3] into the innermost parts of the ship, [2] and he had fallen fast asleep. [1] |
|||
6 So he came to him, [3] the ship master, [2] “Why are you sleeping? [1] call on your God! [2] the God will give thought [3] to us, [2] so that we won’t perish.” [1] |
|||
7 And they said, [4] all of them to each other, [3] And let’s cast lots, [2] this evil [2] that is on us.” [1] lots, [2] on Jonah. [1] |
|||
8 Then they said to him, [2] “Tell us, please, [2] whose cause this evil [2] is on us. [1] And from where do you come? [2] And of what people [2] are you?” [1] |
|||
9 And he said to them, [2] “I am a Hebrew; [1] the God of the heavens, [3 3] I fear, [2] and the dry land.” [1] |
|||
10 Then the men feared [3] a great fear, [2] “What is this you have done?” [1] that from before the LORD [3] he was fleeing, [2] them. [1] |
|||
11 Then they said to him, [3] “What shall we do to you, [2] for us?” [1] grew more and more stormy. [1] |
|||
12 And he said to them, [3] “Pick me up [3 3] and throw me into the sea, [2] for you; [1] I know [2] this [2] is upon you.” [1] |
|||
13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard [3] to get them back [3] to the land, [2] but they could not; [1] grew more and more stormy [2] against them. [1] |
|||
14 Therefore they cried out to the LORD [4] and they said, [3] please don’t let us perish [3] for the life [3 3] of this man, [2] innocent blood; [1] just as you pleased [2] you have done.” [1] |
|||
[1] Silluq |
15 So they picked up [3] Jonah, [2] into the sea; [1] its raging. [1] |
|||
16 Then the men feared [3] exceedingly [2] the LORD; [1] to the LORD, [2] vows. [1] |
|||
יונה 2 | Jonah 2 | |||
17 And the LORD appointed [3] a great fish [2] Jonah; [1] in the belly of the fish [2] and three nights. [1] |
|||
[1] Silluq |
1 And Jonah prayed [2] to the LORD [2] his God; [1] of the fish. [1] |
|||
3 וַיֹּ֗אמֶר [3] Revi'i מִצָּ֥רָה לִ֛י [3] Tevir אֶל־יְהֹוָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha שִׁוַּ֖עְתִּי [2] Tip'cha שָׁמַ֥עְתָּ קוֹלִֽי׃ [1] Silluq |
2 And he said, [3] from my distress [3] to the LORD, [2] I cried for help. [2] You heard my voice. [1] |
|||
3 For you have thrown me deep [3] into the heart of the seas, [2] it surrounds me; [1] over me they have passed. [1] |
|||
4 And I, I said, [2] ‘I have been driven away [2] from before your eyes; [1] I will again look [2] of your holiness.’ [1] |
|||
[1] Silluq |
5 The waters have surrounded me [3 3] even to the neck. [2] it surrounds me. [1] clings to my head. [1] |
|||
6 To the bottoms of the mountains [3] I went down, [2] its bars were behind me [2] forever; [1] my life, [2] O LORD my God. [1] |
|||
7 “When fainted within me [3] my life, [2] I remembered; [1] my prayer, [2] of your holiness. [1] |

[1] Silluq |
8 Those who regard [2] lying vanities; [1] they forsake. [1] |

9 But I, [3] with a voice of thanksgiving [3] I will sacrifice to you. [2] I will fulfill. [1] belongs to the LORD.” [1] ¶ |
|||
10 Then the LORD spoke [2] to the fish; [1] onto the dry land. [1] § |

[1] Silluq |
1 And the word of the LORD came [3] to Jonah [2] a second time saying, [1] |
|||
2 “Arise, [3] go to Nineveh [2] the great city; [1] the message [2] speak to you.” [1] |
|||
3 So Jonah arose [3] and he went [3] to Nineveh, [2] according to the word of the LORD. [1] it was a city great [3] exceedingly [to Elohim], [2] of three days. [1] |
|||
4 And Jonah began [3] to enter into the city, [2] of one day; [1] and he said, [2] forty days, [2] will be overthrown!” [1] |
|||
5 And they believed, [3] the people of Nineveh [2] in God; [1] and they put on sackcloth, [2] even to their least. [1] |
|||
6 And the word reached [3] the king of Nineveh, [2] from his throne, [2] from on him; [1] and he sat [2] in ashes. [1] |
|||
7 וַיַּזְעֵ֗ק [3] Revi'i וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ [3 3] Pashta בְּנִֽינְוֵ֔ה [2] Zaqef וּגְדֹלָ֖יו [2] Tip'cha לֵאמֹ֑ר [1] Etnachta הַבָּקָ֣ר וְהַצֹּ֗אן [3] Revi'i מְא֔וּמָה [2] Zaqef וּמַ֖יִם [2] Tip'cha אַל־יִשְׁתּֽוּ׃ [1] Silluq |
7 And he made a proclamation, [3] and he said [3 3] in Nineveh, [2] and his nobles, [2] saying; [1] the cattle and the flocks, [3] anything, [2] and water [2] don't let them drink, [1] |

8 but let them be covered with sackcloth, [3] the people [3] and the livestock, [2] mightily; [1] everyone [3] from his evil way, [2] that is in their hands. [1] |
|||
9 Who knows whether he will turn [2] and he will relent, [2] God; [1] from his burning anger, [2] so that we might not perish?” [1] |
|||
10 And God saw [3] their deeds, [2] from their evil way; [1] of the disaster [3] which he had said to do to them, [2] and he didn’t do it. [1] |
|||
יונה 4 | Jonah 4 | |||
[1] Silluq |
1 But it was displeasing to Jonah [2] exceedingly; [1] to him. [1] |
|||
2 And he prayed to the LORD [4] and he said, [3] wasn’t this what I said [3] when I was still [3] in my own country? [2] to flee to Tarshish; [1] that you [3] are a gracious and compassionate God, [2] and abundant in lovingkindness, [2] of doing harm. [1] |

3 therefore now, LORD, [2] take I beg you, my life [2] from me; [1] it is better for me to die [2] than to live.” [1] ¶ |
|||
[1] Silluq |
4 And the LORD said, [2] “Is it right [2] for you to be angry?” [1] |

5 Then Jonah went out [3] from the city, [2] on the east side of the city; [1] a shelter, [3] in the shade, [2] he might see [2] in the city. [1] |
|||
6 And the LORD God appointed [4 4] a vine, [4] and it went up [4] over Jonah, [3] over his head, [2] from his distress; [1] over the vine [2] a great joy. [1] |
|||
[1] Silluq |
7 But God appointed [3] a worm [2] the next day; [1] and it withered. [1] |

8 And when [4] the sun arose, [3] an east wind, [3] a hot one, [2] on the head of Jonah [2] and he became faint; [1] to die, [2] “It is better for me to die [2] than to live.” [1] |

9 And God said [3] to Jonah, [2] about the vine?” [1] “I am right to be angry, [2] even to death.” [1] |

10 And the LORD said, [2] on the vine, [2] you have not labored, [2] neither made it grow; [1] and perished in a night. [1] |
|||
11 And I, [3] Should I not have compassion [2] the great city; [1] more than two and ten times ten thousand [4] persons, [3] between their right hand and their left hand, [2] many?” [1] |
