| 1 בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֗וּא [3] Munach Revi'a נִקְרָ֛א [3] Tevir בְּסֵ֥פֶר מֹשֶׁ֖ה [2] Merkha Tip'cha בְּאׇזְנֵ֣י הָעָ֑ם [1] Munach Etnachta כָּת֣וּב בּ֔וֹ [2] Munach Zaqef לֹא־יָב֨וֹא עַמֹּנִ֧י וּמוֹאָבִ֛י [3] Qadma Darga Tevir בִּקְהַ֥ל הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים [2] Merkha Tip'cha עַד־עוֹלָֽם׃ [1] Silluq |
1 On that day [3] it was read aloud [3] in the scroll of Moses [2] in the hearing of the people; [1] written in it [2] no Ammonite or Moabite should enter [3] into the assembly of God [2] forever, [1] |
2 for they did not meet [3] the children of Israel [2] with bread and with water; [1] to curse them, [2] the curse [2] into a blessing. [1] |
[1] Silluq |
3 And it came to pass [2] when they heard the Torah; [1] from Israel. [1] |
4 Now before this, [2] the priest [2] over the storeroom of the house of our God; [1] of Tobiah, [1] |
| 5 וַיַּ֨עַשׂ ל֜וֹ [4] Qadma Geresh לִשְׁכָּ֣ה גְדוֹלָ֗ה [3] Munach Revi'a נֹ֠תְנִ֠ים [4] TelishaG אֶת־הַמִּנְחָ֨ה הַלְּבוֹנָ֜ה [4] Qadma Geresh וְהַכֵּלִ֗ים [3] Revi'a הַתִּיר֣וֹשׁ וְהַיִּצְהָ֔ר [2] Munach Zaqef הַלְוִיִּ֔ם [2] Zaqef וְהַשּׁוֹעֲרִ֑ים [1] Etnachta הַכֹּהֲנִֽים׃ [1] Silluq |
5 he had provided for him [4] a large storeroom, [3] to store [4] the grain offering, the frankincense [4] and the utensils [3] the new wine and the oil, [2] for the Levites [2] and the gatekeepers; [1] for the priests. [1] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
6 But in all this [2] I was not [2] in Jerusalem; [1] in year thirty and two [4] of Artaxerxes king of Babylon [3] I went to the king, [2] I requested to take leave from the king, [1] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
7 and I came [2] to Jerusalem; [1] that Eliashib had done [3] for Tobiah, [2] a room [2] of the house of God. [1] |
8 And it displeased me [2] greatly; [1] all the household goods of Tobiah [3] outside [2] of the storeroom, [1] |
9 and I commanded [2] and they were cleansed, [2] the storerooms; [1] the utensils [3] of the House of God, [2] and the frankincense. [1] ¶ |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
10 And I found out [2] that the portions for the Levites [2] had not been given; [1] the Levites and the singers [2] who did the work. [1] |
11 So I disputed [3] with the leaders [2] “Why [2] has the House of God been forsaken?” [1] and I stationed them [2] at their posts. [1] |
[2] Merkha Tip'cha |
12 Then all Judah, [3] the tithe of the grain [3] and the new wine and the oil, [2] |
| 13 וָאוֹצְרָ֣ה עַל־א֠וֹצָר֠וֹת [4] Munach TelishaG שֶׁלֶמְיָ֨ה הַכֹּהֵ֜ן [4] Qadma Geresh וְצָד֣וֹק הַסּוֹפֵ֗ר [3] Munach Revi'a מִן־הַלְוִיִּ֔ם [2] Zaqef חָנָ֥ן בֶּן־זַכּ֖וּר [2] Merkha Tip'cha בֶּן־מַתַּנְיָ֑ה [1] Etnachta נֶחְשָׁ֔בוּ [2] Zaqef לַחֲלֹ֥ק לַאֲחֵיהֶֽם׃ [1] Merkha Silluq פ |
13 And I put in charge over the storehouses [4] Shelemiah the priest [4] and Zadok the scribe, [3] from the Levites, [2] Hanan son of Zaccur, [2] son of Mattaniah; [1] they were counted, [2] was to distribute to their brothers. [1] ¶ |
14 Remember me O my God [2] for this; [1] which I have done [3] for the house of my God, [2] and for those who serve there. [1] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
15 In those days [4] I saw in Judah some treading winepresses on the Sabbath, [4] and some bringing heaps of grain and loading them onto donkeys, [4] and also wine, [4] grapes and figs, [3] on the Sabbath day; [1] the day on which [2] they were selling food. [1] |
16 And the men of Tyre [3] who lived there [2] and all kinds of merchandise; [1] to the children of Judah, [2] even in Jerusalem. [1] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
17 So I contended [2] with [2] the nobles of Judah; [1] “What is this evil thing [3] that you are doing, [2] the Sabbath day? [1] |
| 18 הֲל֨וֹא כֹ֤ה עָשׂוּ֙ [3] Qadma Mapakh Pashta אֲבֹ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם [2] Munach Zaqef עָלֵ֗ינוּ [3] Revi'a כׇּל־הָרָעָ֣ה הַזֹּ֔את [2] Munach Zaqef הָעִ֣יר הַזֹּ֑את [1] Munach Etnachta מוֹסִיפִ֤ים חָרוֹן֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל [2] Zaqef אֶת־הַשַּׁבָּֽת׃ [1] Silluq פ |
18 Isn't this what they did, [3] your ancestors, [2] on us [3] all this trouble, [2] this city? [1] bring more wrath [3] on Israel [2] the Sabbath.” [1] ¶ |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
19 And it came to pass [4] when the gates of Jerusalem would get dark [4] before the Sabbath, [3] the doors to be shut, [2] they not be opened [2] after the Sabbath; [1] I stationed [3] at the gates, [2] on the Sabbath day. [1] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
20 Then they camped, the traders [4] and sellers of all kinds of merchandise, [3] outside of Jerusalem [2] once or twice. [1] |
| 21 וָאָעִ֣ידָה בָהֶ֗ם [3] Munach Revi'a וָאֹמְרָ֤ה אֲלֵיהֶם֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta אַתֶּ֤ם לֵנִים֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta נֶ֣גֶד הַחוֹמָ֔ה [2] Munach Zaqef יָ֖ד [2] Tip'cha אֶשְׁלַ֣ח בָּכֶ֑ם [1] Munach Etnachta לֹא־בָ֖אוּ [2] Tip'cha בַּשַּׁבָּֽת׃ [1] Silluq פ |
21 But I warned them [3] and I said to them, [3] are you camping [3] next to the wall? [2] a hand [2] I will lay on you.” [1] they no longer came [2] on the Sabbath. [1] ¶ |
| 22 וָאֹמְרָ֣ה לַלְוִיִּ֗ם [3] Munach Revi'a אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִֽהְי֤וּ מִֽטַּהֲרִים֙ [3] Qadma Mapakh Pashta וּבָאִים֙ [3] Pashta שֹׁמְרִ֣ים הַשְּׁעָרִ֔ים [2] Munach Zaqef אֶת־י֣וֹם הַשַּׁבָּ֑ת [1] Munach Etnachta זׇכְרָה־לִּ֣י אֱלֹהַ֔י [2] Munach Zaqef כְּרֹ֥ב חַסְדֶּֽךָ׃ [1] Merkha Silluq פ |
22 Then I commanded the Levites [3] that they purify themselves [3] and come [3] guard the gates, [2] the Sabbath day; [1] remember for me O my God, [2] according to the greatness of your lovingkindness. [1] ¶ |
| 23 גַּ֣ם ׀ [4] Munach Legarmeh בַּיָּמִ֣ים הָהֵ֗ם [3] Munach Revi'a הֹשִׁ֗יבוּ [3] Revi'a נָשִׁים֙ [3] Pashta *אשדודיות **אַשְׁדֳּדִיּ֔וֹת [2] Zaqef מוֹאֲבִיּֽוֹת׃ [1] Silluq |
23 Also [4] in those days [3] who had married [3] women [3] who were Ashdodite, [2] Moabite, [1] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
24 and their children, [3] half [3] spoke Ashdodite, [2] to speak the language of Judah; [1] of each people. [1] |
25 So I contended with them [3] and I cursed them, [2] men [2] and I pulled out their beard; [1] “You shall not give your daughters [3] to their sons, [2] their daughters [2] or for yourselves. [1] |

26 Didn’t Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? [4] Though among the many nations there was no king [4] like him, [3] was he, [2] king [2] over all Israel; [1] the wives [2] who were foreign. [1] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
27 So of you will it be heard, [3] of doing [3] all the great evil [3] this, [2] against our God; [1] foreign wives?” [1] |
28 Now one of the sons of Joiada, son of Eliashib [3] the high priest, [2] of Sanballat the Horonite; [1] from me. [1] |

29 Remember them [2] O my God; [1] the defilement of the priesthood, [2] and the Levites. [1] |

30 So I cleansed them [2] from everything foreign; [1] ¶ for the priests and for the Levites, [2] each in his own task, [1] |
