1 נִבְחָ֣ר שֵׁ֭ם [3] Dechi מֵעֹ֣שֶׁר רָ֑ב [2] Etnachta חֵ֣ן טֽוֹב׃ [1] Silluq |
1 A good name is more desirable than great riches, and loving favor is better than silver and gold. [3] |

2 עָשִׁ֣יר וָרָ֣שׁ [3] VDechi נִפְגָּ֑שׁוּ [2] Etnachta יְהוָֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
2 The rich and the poor have this in common: The LORD is the maker of them all. [3] |

3 עָר֤וּם ׀ [4] Mahpakh Legarmeh רָאָ֣ה רָעָ֣ה [3] VDechi *ויסתר **וְנִסְתָּ֑ר [2] Etnachta עָבְר֥וּ וְֽנֶעֱנָֽשׁוּ׃ [1] Silluq |
3 A prudent man sees danger and hides himself; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it. [4] |

4 עֵ֣קֶב עֲ֭נָוָה [3] Dechi יִרְאַ֣ת יְהוָ֑ה [2] Etnachta וְחַיִּֽים׃ [1] Silluq |
4 The result of humility and the fear of the LORD is wealth, honor, and life. [3] |

5 צִנִּ֣ים פַּ֭חִים [3] Dechi בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ עִקֵּ֑שׁ [2] Etnachta יִרְחַ֥ק מֵהֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq |
5 Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked: whoever guards his soul stays from them. [3] |

6 חֲנֹ֣ךְ לַ֭נַּעַר [3] Dechi עַל־פִּ֣י דַרְכּ֑וֹ [2] Etnachta לֹֽא־יָס֥וּר מִמֶּֽנָּה׃ [1] Silluq |
6 Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. [3] |

7 עָ֭שִׁיר [3] Dechi בְּרָשִׁ֣ים יִמְשׁ֑וֹל [2] Etnachta לְאִ֣ישׁ מַלְוֶֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
7 The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender. [3] |

8 זוֹרֵ֣עַ עַ֭וְלָה [3] Dechi *יקצור־**יִקְצָר־אָ֑וֶן [2] Etnachta יִכְלֶֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
8 He who sows wickedness reaps trouble, and the rod of his fury will be destroyed. [3] |

9 טֽוֹב־עַ֭יִן [3] Dechi ה֣וּא יְבֹרָ֑ךְ [2] Etnachta לַדָּֽל׃ [1] Silluq |
9 He who has a generous eye will be blessed; for he shares his food with the poor. [3] |

10 גָּ֣רֵֽשׁ לֵ֭ץ [3] Dechi וְיֵצֵ֣א מָד֑וֹן [2] Etnachta דִּ֣ין וְקָלֽוֹן׃ [1] Silluq |
10 Drive out the mocker, and strife will go out; yes, quarrels and insults will stop. [3] |

11 אֹהֵ֥ב *טהור־**טְהָר־לֵ֑ב [2] Etnachta רֵעֵ֥הוּ מֶֽלֶךְ׃ [1] Silluq |
11 He who loves purity of heart and speaks gracefully is the king’s friend. [2] |

12 עֵינֵ֣י יְ֭הוָה [3] Dechi נָ֣צְרוּ דָ֑עַת [2] Etnachta דִּבְרֵ֥י בֹגֵֽד׃ [1] Silluq |
12 The LORD’s eyes watch over knowledge; but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful. [3] |

13 אָמַ֣ר עָ֭צֵל [3] Dechi אֲרִ֣י בַח֑וּץ [2] Etnachta אֵֽרָצֵֽחַ׃ [1] Silluq |
13 The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside! I will be killed in the streets!” [3] |

14 שׁוּחָ֣ה עֲ֭מֻקָּה [3] Dechi פִּ֣י זָר֑וֹת [2] Etnachta *יפול־**יִפָּל־שָֽׁם׃ [1] Silluq |
14 The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit. He who is under the LORD’s wrath will fall into it. [3] |

15 אִ֭וֶּלֶת [3] Dechi קְשׁוּרָ֣ה בְלֶב־נָ֑עַר [2] Etnachta יַרְחִיקֶ֥נָּה מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃ [1] Silluq |
15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child: the rod of discipline drives it far from him. [3] |

16 עֹ֣שֵֽׁק דָּ֭ל [3] Dechi לְהַרְבּ֣וֹת ל֑וֹ [2] Etnachta אַךְ־לְמַחְסֽוֹר׃ [1] Silluq |
16 Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich, both come to poverty. [3] |

17 הַ֥ט אָזְנְךָ֗ [3] Revi'i וּ֭שְׁמַע [3] Dechi דִּבְרֵ֣י חֲכָמִ֑ים [2] Etnachta תָּשִׁ֥ית לְדַעְתִּֽי׃ [1] Silluq |
17 Turn your ear, and listen to the words of the wise. Apply your heart to my teaching. [3] |

18 כִּֽי־נָ֭עִים [3] Dechi כִּֽי־תִשְׁמְרֵ֣ם בְּבִטְנֶ֑ךָ [2] Etnachta עַל־שְׂפָתֶֽיךָ׃ [1] Silluq |
18 For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips. [3] |

19 לִהְי֣וֹת בַּ֭יהוָה [3] Dechi מִבְטַחֶ֑ךָ [2] Etnachta אַף־אָֽתָּה׃ [1] Silluq |
19 I teach you today, even you, So that your trust may be in the LORD. [3] |

20 הֲלֹ֤א כָתַ֣בְתִּי לְ֭ךָ [3] Dechi *שלשום **שָׁלִישִׁ֑ים [2] Etnachta וָדָֽעַת׃ [1] Silluq |
20 Haven’t I written to you thirty excellent things of counsel and knowledge, [3] |

21 לְהוֹדִֽיעֲךָ֗ [3] Revi'i קֹ֭שְׁטְ [3] Dechi אִמְרֵ֣י אֱמֶ֑ת [2] Etnachta לְשֹׁלְחֶֽיךָ׃ [1] Silluq פ |
21 To teach you truth, reliable words, to give sound answers to the ones who sent you? [3] |

22 אַֽל־תִּגְזָל־דָּ֭ל [3] Dechi כִּ֣י דַל־ה֑וּא [2] Etnachta בַשָּֽׁעַר׃ [1] Silluq |
22 Don’t exploit the poor, because he is poor; and don’t crush the needy in court, [3] |

23 כִּֽי־יְ֭הוָה [3] Dechi יָרִ֣יב רִיבָ֑ם [2] Etnachta נָֽפֶשׁ׃ [1] Silluq |
23 for the LORD will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them. [3] |
|||
24 אַל־תִּ֭תְרַע [3] Dechi אֶת־בַּ֣עַל אָ֑ף [2] Etnachta לֹ֣א תָבֽוֹא׃ [1] Silluq |
24 Don’t befriend a hot-tempered man, and don’t associate with one who harbors anger, [3] |

25 פֶּן־תֶּאֱלַ֥ף *ארחתו **אֹֽרְחֹתָ֑יו [2] Etnachta לְנַפְשֶֽׁךָ׃ [1] Silluq |
25 lest you learn his ways, and ensnare your soul. [2] |
|||
26 אַל־תְּהִ֥י בְתֹֽקְעֵי־כָ֑ף [2] Etnachta מַשָּׁאֽוֹת׃ [1] Silluq |
26 Don’t you be one of those who strike hands, of those who are collateral for debts. [2] |
|||
27 אִם־אֵֽין־לְךָ֥ לְשַׁלֵּ֑ם [2] Etnachta מִתַּחְתֶּֽיךָ׃ [1] Silluq |
27 If you don’t have means to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you? [2] |
|||
28 אַל־תַּ֭סֵּג [3] Dechi גְּב֣וּל עוֹלָ֑ם [2] Etnachta אֲבוֹתֶֽיךָ׃ [1] Silluq |
28 Don’t move the ancient boundary stone which your fathers have set up. [3] |

29 חָזִ֡יתָ [4] Pazer אִ֤ישׁ ׀ [4] Mahpakh Legarmeh מָ֘הִ֤יר בִּמְלַאכְתּ֗וֹ [3] Revi'i לִֽפְנֵֽי־מְלָכִ֥ים יִתְיַצָּ֑ב [2] Etnachta לִפְנֵ֥י חֲשֻׁכִּֽים׃ [1] Silluq פ |
29 Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve kings. He won’t serve obscure men. ¶ [4] |
