1 The wicked flee when no one pursues; but the righteous are as bold as a lion. [3] |

2 בְּפֶ֣שַֽׁע אֶ֭רֶץ [3] Dechi רַבִּ֣ים שָׂרֶ֑יהָ [2] Etnachta כֵּ֣ן יַאֲרִֽיךְ׃ [1] Silluq |
2 In rebellion, a land has many rulers, but order is maintained by a man of understanding and knowledge. [3] |

3 גֶּ֣בֶר רָ֭שׁ [3] Dechi וְעֹשֵׁ֣ק דַּלִּ֑ים [2] Etnachta וְאֵ֣ין לָֽחֶם׃ [1] Silluq |
3 A needy man who oppresses the poor is like a driving rain which leaves no crops. [3] |

4 עֹזְבֵ֣י ת֭וֹרָה [3] Dechi יְהַֽלְל֣וּ רָשָׁ֑ע [2] Etnachta יִתְגָּ֥רוּ בָֽם׃ [1] Silluq פ |
4 Those who forsake the Torah praise the wicked; but those who keep the Torah contend with them. [3] |

5 אַנְשֵׁי־רָ֭ע [3] Dechi לֹא־יָבִ֣ינוּ מִשְׁפָּ֑ט [2] Etnachta יָבִ֥ינוּ כֹֽל׃ [1] Silluq |
5 Evil men don’t understand justice; but those who seek the LORD understand it fully. [3] |

6 טֽוֹב־רָ֭שׁ [3] Dechi הוֹלֵ֣ךְ בְּתֻמּ֑וֹ [2] Etnachta וְה֣וּא עָשִֽׁיר׃ [1] Silluq |
6 Better is the poor who walks in his integrity, than he who is perverse in his ways, and he is rich. [3] |

7 נוֹצֵ֣ר תּ֭וֹרָה [3] Dechi בֵּ֣ן מֵבִ֑ין [2] Etnachta יַכְלִ֥ים אָבִֽיו׃ [1] Silluq |
7 Whoever keeps the Torah is a wise son; but he who is a companion of gluttons shames his father. [3] |

8 מַרְבֶּ֣ה ה֭וֹנוֹ [3] Dechi בְּנֶ֣שֶׁךְ *ובתרבית **וְתַרְבִּ֑ית [2] Etnachta יִקְבְּצֶֽנּוּ׃ [1] Silluq |
8 He who increases his wealth by excessive interest gathers it for one who has pity on the poor. [3] |

9 מֵסִ֣יר אָ֭זְנוֹ [3] Dechi מִשְּׁמֹ֣עַ תּוֹרָ֑ה [2] Etnachta תּוֹעֵבָֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
9 He who turns away his ear from hearing the Torah, even his prayer is an abomination. [3] |

10 מַשְׁגֶּ֤ה יְשָׁרִ֨ים ׀ [4] Azla Legarmeh בְּדֶ֥רֶךְ רָ֗ע [3] Revi'i בִּשְׁחוּת֥וֹ הֽוּא־יִפּ֑וֹל [2] Etnachta יִנְחֲלוּ־טֽוֹב׃ [1] Silluq |
10 Whoever causes the upright to go astray in an evil way, he will fall into his own trap; but the blameless will inherit good. [4] |

11 חָכָ֣ם בְּ֭עֵינָיו [3] Dechi אִ֣ישׁ עָשִׁ֑יר [2] Etnachta יַחְקְרֶֽנּוּ׃ [1] Silluq |
11 The rich man is wise in his own eyes; but the poor who has understanding sees through him. [3] |

12 בַּעֲלֹ֣ץ צַ֭דִּיקִים [3] Dechi רַבָּ֣ה תִפְאָ֑רֶת [2] Etnachta יְחֻפַּ֥שׂ אָדָֽם׃ [1] Silluq |
12 When the righteous triumph, there is great glory; but when the wicked rise, men hide themselves. [3] |

13 מְכַסֶּ֣ה פְ֭שָׁעָיו [3] Dechi לֹ֣א יַצְלִ֑יחַ [2] Etnachta יְרֻחָֽם׃ [1] Silluq |
13 He who conceals his sins doesn’t prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy. [3] |

14 אַשְׁרֵ֣י אָ֭דָם [3] Dechi מְפַחֵ֣ד תָּמִ֑יד [2] Etnachta יִפּ֥וֹל בְּרָעָֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
14 Blessed is the man who always fears; but one who hardens his heart falls into trouble. [3] |

15 אֲרִי־נֹ֭הֵם [3] Dechi וְדֹ֣ב שׁוֹקֵ֑ק [2] Etnachta עַ֣ל עַם־דָּֽל׃ [1] Silluq |
15 As a roaring lion or a charging bear, so is a wicked ruler over helpless people. [3] |

16 נָגִ֗יד [3] Revi'i חֲסַ֣ר תְּ֭בוּנוֹת [3] Dechi וְרַ֥ב מַעֲשַׁקּ֑וֹת [2] Etnachta יַאֲרִ֥יךְ יָמִֽים׃ [1] Silluq פ |
16 A tyrannical ruler lacks judgment. One who hates ill-gotten gain will have long days. [3] |

17 אָ֭דָם [3] Dechi עָשֻׁ֣ק בְּדַם־נָ֑פֶשׁ [2] Etnachta אַל־יִתְמְכוּ־בֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq |
17 A man who is tormented by life blood will be a fugitive until death; no one will support him. [3] |

18 הוֹלֵ֣ךְ תָּ֭מִים [3] Dechi יִוָּשֵׁ֑עַ [2] Etnachta יִפּ֥וֹל בְּאֶחָֽת׃ [1] Silluq |
18 Whoever walks blamelessly is kept safe; but one with perverse ways will fall suddenly. [3] |

19 עֹבֵ֣ד אַ֭דְמָתוֹ [3] Dechi יִֽשְׂבַּֽע־לָ֑חֶם [2] Etnachta יִֽשְׂבַּֽע־רִֽישׁ׃ [1] Silluq |
19 One who works his land will have an abundance of food; but one who chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty. [3] |

20 אִ֣ישׁ אֱ֭מוּנוֹת [3] Dechi רַב־בְּרָכ֑וֹת [2] Etnachta לֹ֣א יִנָּקֶֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
20 A faithful man is rich with blessings; but one who is eager to be rich will not go unpunished. [3] |

21 הַֽכֵּר־פָּנִ֥ים לֹא־ט֑וֹב [2] Etnachta יִפְשַׁע־גָּֽבֶר׃ [1] Silluq |
21 To show partiality is not good; yet a man will do wrong for a piece of bread. [2] |

22 נִֽבֳהָ֥ל לַה֗וֹן [3] Revi'i אִ֭ישׁ [3] Dechi רַ֣ע עָ֑יִן [2] Etnachta כִּי־חֶ֥סֶר יְבֹאֶֽנּוּ׃ [1] Silluq |
22 A stingy man hurries after riches, and doesn’t know that poverty waits for him. [3] |

23 מ֘וֹכִ֤יחַ אָדָ֣ם אַ֭חֲרַי [3] Dechi חֵ֣ן יִמְצָ֑א [2] Etnachta |
23 One who rebukes a man will afterward find more favor than one who flatters with the tongue. [3] |

24 גּוֹזֵ֤ל ׀ [4] Mahpakh Legarmeh אָ֘בִ֤יו וְאִמּ֗וֹ [3] Revi'i וְאֹמֵ֥ר אֵֽין־פָּ֑שַׁע [2] Etnachta לְאִ֣ישׁ מַשְׁחִֽית׃ [1] Silluq |
24 Whoever robs his father or his mother and says, “It’s not wrong,” is a partner with a destroyer. [4] |

25 רְחַב־נֶ֭פֶשׁ [3] Dechi יְגָרֶ֣ה מָד֑וֹן [2] Etnachta יְדֻשָּֽׁן׃ [1] Silluq |
25 One who is greedy stirs up strife; but one who trusts in the LORD will prosper. [3] |

26 בּוֹטֵ֣חַ בְּ֭לִבּוֹ [3] Dechi ה֣וּא כְסִ֑יל [2] Etnachta ה֣וּא יִמָּלֵֽט׃ [1] Silluq |
26 One who trusts in himself is a fool; but one who walks in wisdom is kept safe. [3] |

27 נוֹתֵ֣ן לָ֭רָשׁ [3] Dechi אֵ֣ין מַחְס֑וֹר [2] Etnachta רַב־מְאֵרֽוֹת׃ [1] Silluq |
27 One who gives to the poor has no lack; but one who closes his eyes will have many curses. [3] |

28 בְּק֣וּם רְ֭שָׁעִים [3] Dechi יִסָּתֵ֣ר אָדָ֑ם [2] Etnachta יִרְבּ֥וּ צַדִּיקִֽים׃ [1] Silluq |
28 When the wicked rise, men hide themselves; but when they perish, the righteous thrive. ¶ [3] |
