1 My son, if you have become collateral for your neighbor, if you have struck your hands in pledge for a stranger, [3] |

2 נוֹקַ֥שְׁתָּ בְאִמְרֵי־פִ֑יךָ [2] Etnachta בְּאִמְרֵי־פִֽיךָ׃ [1] Silluq |
2 you are trapped by the words of your mouth; you are ensnared with the words of your mouth. [2] |

3 עֲשֵׂ֨ה זֹ֥את אֵפ֪וֹא ׀ בְּנִ֡י [4] Pazer וְֽהִנָּצֵ֗ל [3] Revi'i כִּ֘י בָ֤אתָ בְכַף־רֵעֶ֑ךָ [2] Etnachta וּרְהַ֥ב רֵעֶֽיךָ׃ [1] Silluq |
3 Do this now, my son, and deliver yourself, since you have come into the hand of your neighbor. Go, humble yourself. Press your plea with your neighbor. [4] |

4 אַל־תִּתֵּ֣ן שֵׁנָ֣ה [3] VDechi לְעֵינֶ֑יךָ [2] Etnachta לְעַפְעַפֶּֽיךָ׃ [1] Silluq |
4 Give no sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids. [3] |

5 הִ֭נָּצֵל [3] Dechi כִּצְבִ֣י מִיָּ֑ד [2] Etnachta מִיַּ֥ד יָקֽוּשׁ׃ [1] Silluq פ |
5 Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler. [3] |

6 לֵֽךְ־אֶל־נְמָלָ֥ה עָצֵ֑ל [2] Etnachta וַחֲכָֽם׃ [1] Silluq |
6 Go to the ant, you sluggard. Consider her ways, and be wise, [2] |

7 אֲשֶׁ֖ר אֵֽין־לָ֥הּ קָצִ֗ין [3/2] Revi'i שֹׁטֵ֥ר וּמֹשֵֽׁל׃ [1] Silluq |
7 which having no chief, overseer, or ruler, [3/2] |
|||
8 תָּכִ֣ין בַּקַּ֣יִץ [3] VDechi לַחְמָ֑הּ [2] Etnachta מַאֲכָלָֽהּ׃ [1] Silluq |
8 provides her bread in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest. [3] |

9 עַד־מָתַ֖י עָצֵ֥ל ׀ תִּשְׁכָּ֑ב [2] Etnachta תָּק֥וּם מִשְּׁנָתֶֽךָ׃ [1] Silluq |
9 How long will you sleep, sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep? [2] |

10 מְעַ֣ט שֵׁ֭נוֹת [3] Dechi מְעַ֣ט תְּנוּמ֑וֹת [2] Etnachta חִבֻּ֖ק יָדַ֣יִם [2] VRevMug לִשְׁכָּֽב׃ [1] Silluq |
10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep, [3] |

11 וּבָֽא־כִמְהַלֵּ֥ךְ רֵאשֶׁ֑ךָ [2] Etnachta כְּאִ֣ישׁ מָגֵֽן׃ [1] Silluq פ |
11 so your poverty will come as a robber, and your scarcity as an armed man. [2] |

12 אָדָ֣ם בְּ֭לִיַּעַל [3] Dechi אִ֣ישׁ אָ֑וֶן [2] Etnachta עִקְּשׁ֥וּת פֶּֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
12 A worthless person, a man of iniquity, is he who walks with a perverse mouth, [3] |

13 קֹרֵ֣ץ בְּ֭עֵינָו [3] Dechi מֹלֵ֣ל בְּרַגְלָ֑ו [2] Etnachta בְּאֶצְבְּעֹתָֽיו׃ [1] Silluq |
13 who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet, who motions with his fingers, [3] |

14 תַּֽהְפֻּכ֨וֹת ׀ [4] Azla Legarmeh בְּלִבּ֗וֹ [3] Revi'i בְּכָל־עֵ֑ת [2] Etnachta |
14 in whose heart is perverseness, who devises evil continually, who always sows discord. [4] |

15 עַל־כֵּ֗ן [3] Revi'i פִּ֭תְאֹם [3] Dechi יָב֣וֹא אֵיד֑וֹ [2] Etnachta וְאֵ֣ין מַרְפֵּֽא׃ [1] Silluq פ |
15 Therefore his calamity will come suddenly. He will be broken suddenly, and that without remedy. [3] |

16 שֶׁשׁ־הֵ֭נָּה [3] Dechi שָׂנֵ֣א יְהוָ֑ה [2] Etnachta *תועבות **תּוֹעֲבַ֥ת נַפְשֽׁוֹ׃ [1] Silluq |
16 There are six things which the LORD hates; yes, seven which are an abomination to him, [3] |

17 עֵינַ֣יִם רָ֭מוֹת [3] Dechi לְשׁ֣וֹן שָׁ֑קֶר [2] Etnachta שֹׁפְכ֥וֹת דָּם־נָקִֽי׃ [1] Silluq |
17 arrogant eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, [3] |

18 לֵ֗ב [3] Revi'i חֹ֭רֵשׁ [3] Dechi מַחְשְׁב֣וֹת אָ֑וֶן [2] Etnachta לָר֥וּץ לָֽרָעָה׃ [1] Silluq |
18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are swift in running to mischief, [3] |

19 יָפִ֣יחַ כְּ֭זָבִים [3] Dechi עֵ֣ד שָׁ֑קֶר [2] Etnachta בֵּ֣ין אַחִֽים׃ [1] Silluq פ |
19 a false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers. [3] |

20 נְצֹ֣ר בְּ֭נִי [3] Dechi מִצְוַ֣ת אָבִ֑יךָ [2] Etnachta תּוֹרַ֥ת אִמֶּֽךָ׃ [1] Silluq |
20 My son, keep your father’s commandment, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching. [3] |

21 קָשְׁרֵ֣ם עַל־לִבְּךָ֣ [3] VDechi תָמִ֑יד [2] Etnachta עַל־גַּרְגְּרֹתֶֽךָ׃ [1] Silluq |
21 Bind them continually on your heart. Tie them around your neck. [3] |

22 בְּהִתְהַלֶּכְךָ֨ ׀ [4] Azla Legarmeh תַּנְחֶ֬ה אֹתָ֗ךְ [3] Revi'i תִּשְׁמֹ֣ר עָלֶ֑יךָ [2] Etnachta הִ֣יא תְשִׂיחֶֽךָ׃ [1] Silluq |
22 When you walk, it will lead you. When you sleep, it will watch over you. When you awake, it will talk with you. [4] |

23 כִּ֤י נֵ֣ר מִ֭צְוָה [3] Dechi וְת֣וֹרָה א֑וֹר [2] Etnachta תּוֹכְח֥וֹת מוּסָֽר׃ [1] Silluq |
23 For the commandment is a lamp, and the Torah is light. Reproofs of instruction are the way of life, [3] |

24 לִ֭שְׁמָרְךָ [3] Dechi מֵאֵ֣שֶׁת רָ֑ע [2] Etnachta לָשׁ֥וֹן נָכְרִיָּֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
24 to keep you from the immoral woman, from the flattery of the wayward wife’s tongue. [3] |

25 אַל־תַּחְמֹ֣ד יָ֭פְיָהּ [3] Dechi בִּלְבָבֶ֑ךָ [2] Etnachta בְּעַפְעַפֶּֽיהָ׃ [1] Silluq |
25 Don’t lust after her beauty in your heart, neither let her captivate you with her eyelids. [3] |

26 כִּ֤י בְעַד־אִשָּׁ֥ה זוֹנָ֗ה [3] Revi'i עַֽד־כִּכַּ֫ר לָ֥חֶם [2] Ole Veyored נֶ֖פֶשׁ יְקָרָ֣ה [2] VRevMug תָצֽוּד׃ [1] Silluq פ |
26 For a prostitute reduces you to a piece of bread. The adulteress hunts for your precious life. [3] |

27 הֲיַחְתֶּ֤ה אִ֓ישׁ אֵ֬שׁ בְּחֵיק֑וֹ [2] Etnachta לֹ֣א תִשָּׂרַֽפְנָה׃ [1] Silluq |
27 Can a man scoop fire into his lap, and his clothes not be burned? [2] |

28 אִם־יְהַלֵּ֣ךְ אִ֭ישׁ [3] Dechi עַל־הַגֶּחָלִ֑ים [2] Etnachta לֹ֣א תִכָּוֶֽינָה׃ [1] Silluq |
28 Or can one walk on hot coals, and his feet not be scorched? [3] |

29 כֵּ֗ן [3] Revi'i הַ֭בָּא [3] Dechi אֶל־אֵ֣שֶׁת רֵעֵ֑הוּ [2] Etnachta כָּֽל־הַנֹּגֵ֥עַ בָּֽהּ׃ [1] Silluq |
29 So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife. Whoever touches her will not be unpunished. [3] |

30 לֹא־יָב֣וּזוּ לַ֭גַּנָּב [3] Dechi כִּ֣י יִגְנ֑וֹב [2] Etnachta כִּ֣י יִרְעָֽב׃ [1] Silluq |
30 Men don’t despise a thief if he steals to satisfy himself when he is hungry, [3] |

31 וְ֭נִמְצָא [3] Dechi יְשַׁלֵּ֣ם שִׁבְעָתָ֑יִם [2] Etnachta יִתֵּֽן׃ [1] Silluq |
31 but if he is found, he shall restore seven times. He shall give all the wealth of his house. [3] |

32 נֹאֵ֣ף אִשָּׁ֣ה [3] VDechi חֲסַר־לֵ֑ב [2] Etnachta ה֣וּא יַעֲשֶֽׂנָּה׃ [1] Silluq |
32 He who commits adultery with a woman is void of understanding. He who does it destroys his own soul. [3] |

33 נֶֽגַע־וְקָל֥וֹן יִמְצָ֑א [2] Etnachta לֹ֣א תִמָּחֶֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
33 He will get wounds and dishonor. His reproach will not be wiped away. [2] |
|||
34 כִּֽי־קִנְאָ֥ה חֲמַת־גָּ֑בֶר [2] Etnachta בְּי֣וֹם נָקָֽם׃ [1] Silluq |
34 For jealousy arouses the fury of the husband. He won’t spare in the day of vengeance. [2] |
|||
35 לֹא־יִ֭שָּׂא [3] Dechi פְּנֵ֣י כָל־כֹּ֑פֶר [2] Etnachta כִּ֣י תַרְבֶּה־שֹֽׁחַד׃ [1] Silluq פ |
35 He won’t regard any ransom, neither will he rest content, though you give many gifts. ¶ [3] |
