David’s Son and Lord

35 And continuing, Jesus said while[fn] teaching in the templecourts,[fn] “How can the scribes say that the Christ is David’s son?

• 36 David himself said by the Holy Spirit,‘The Lord said to my Lord,
  • “Sit at my right hand,
• until I put your enemies
  • under your feet.” ’[fn]

37 David himself calls him ‘Lord,’ and how is he his son?” And the large crowd was listening to him gladly.
