The Three Feasts of Pilgrimage

The Three Feasts of Pilgrimage

(Leviticus 23:1–3)

14Three times a year you are to celebrate a feast to Me.

15You are to keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread [fn] as I commanded you: At the appointed time in the month of Abib [fn] you are to eat unleavened bread for seven days, because that was the month you came out of Egypt. No one may appear before Me empty-handed.

16You are also to keep the Feast of Harvest [fn] with the firstfruits of the produce from what you sow in the field.

And keep the Feast of Ingathering [fn] at the end of the year, when you gather your produce from the field.

17Three times a year all your males are to appear before the Lord GOD.

18You must not offer the blood of My sacrifices with anything leavened, nor may the fat of My feast remain until morning.

19Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the LORD your God.

You must not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.

23:15 That is, the seven-day period after the Passover during which no leaven may be eaten; see Exodus 12:14–20.

23:15 Abib was the first month of the ancient Hebrew lunar calendar, usually occurring within the months of March and April.

23:16 That is, Shavuot, the late spring feast of pilgrimage to Jerusalem; it is also known as the Feast of Weeks (see Exodus 34:22) or the Feast of Pentecost (see Acts 2:1).

23:16 That is, Sukkot, the autumn feast of pilgrimage to Jerusalem; it is later called the Feast of Tabernacles (or Booths or Shelters).
