MILLO

1. Earthen embankment or fortification mentioned in Judges 9:6, 20. See Beth-millo.

2. Fortress or embankment mentioned in connection with the construction of the city of David (2 Sm 5:9; 1 Chr 11:8). Solomon apparently either rebuilt or expanded this fortification (1 Kgs 9:15; 11:27).

Two kings of Judah are mentioned in connection with this structure: Joash was slain in “the house of Millo” (2 Kgs 12:20), and Hezekiah strengthened Millo due to the threat of invasion by Sennacherib (2 Chr 32:5).
