וַיִּצֹ֥ק עַל־רֹאשׁ֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha
וַיִּשָּׁקֵ֑הוּ [1] Etnachta

כִּֽי־מְשָׁחֲךָ֧ יְהֹוָ֛ה [3] Tevir
עַל־נַחֲלָת֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha

“Has not [3]
the LORD anointed you [3]
over his inheritance, [2]
to be ruler? [1]

בִּגְב֥וּל בִּנְיָמִ֖ן [2] Tip'cha
בְּצֶלְצַ֑ח [1] Etnachta
 
וְאָמְר֣וּ אֵלֶ֗יךָ [3] Revi'i
נִמְצְא֤וּ הָאֲתֹנוֹת֙ [3] Pashta
אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָלַ֣כְתָּ לְבַקֵּ֔שׁ [2] Zaqef
 
וְהִנֵּ֨ה נָטַ֤שׁ אָבִ֙יךָ֙ [3 3] Pashta
אֶת־דִּבְרֵ֣י הָאֲתֹנ֔וֹת [2] Zaqef
 
וְדָאַ֤ג לָכֶם֙ [3] Pashta
לֵאמֹ֔ר [2] Zaqef
 
מָ֥ה אֶעֱשֶׂ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
לִבְנִֽי׃ [1] Silluq

and behold, your father has stopped caring about [3 3]
the matter of the donkeys, [2]
 
and he is anxious for you [3]
saying, [2]
 
“What shall I do [2]

יֹרְדִ֣ים מֵהַבָּמָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
וְלִפְנֵיהֶ֞ם [4] Gershayim
נֵ֤בֶל וְתֹף֙ [3] Pashta
וְחָלִ֣יל וְכִנּ֔וֹר [2] Zaqef

lyre and tambourine, [3]
and flute and harp, [2]
 
and they [2]
will be prophesying. [1]
6 וְצָלְחָ֤ה עָלֶ֙יךָ֙ [3 3] Pashta
ר֣וּחַ יְהֹוָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
וְהִתְנַבִּ֖יתָ [2] Tip'cha
עִמָּ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
וְנֶהְפַּכְתָּ֖ [2] Tip'cha
לְאִ֥ישׁ אַחֵֽר׃ [1] Silluq

the Spirit of the LORD, [2]
 
and you will prophesy [2]
with them; [1]
 
and you will be changed [2]
into another man. [1]

הָאֹת֥וֹת הָאֵ֖לֶּה [2] Tip'cha

עֲשֵׂ֤ה לְךָ֙ [3] Pashta
אֲשֶׁ֣ר תִּמְצָ֣א יָדֶ֔ךָ [2] Zaqef
 
כִּ֥י הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
עִמָּֽךְ׃ [1] Silluq

when they come, [3]
these signs, [2]
to you; [1]

that which your hand finds, [2]

וְהִנֵּ֤ה אָנֹכִי֙ [3] Pashta
יֹרֵ֣ד אֵלֶ֔יךָ [2] Zaqef
 
לְהַעֲל֣וֹת עֹל֔וֹת [2] Zaqef
לִזְבֹּ֖חַ [2] Tip'cha
זִבְחֵ֣י שְׁלָמִ֑ים [1] Etnachta
 
שִׁבְעַ֨ת יָמִ֤ים תּוֹחֵל֙ [3] Pashta
עַד־בּוֹאִ֣י אֵלֶ֔יךָ [2] Zaqef
 
וְהוֹדַעְתִּ֣י לְךָ֔ [2] Zaqef
אֵ֖ת [2] Tip'cha
אֲשֶׁ֥ר תַּעֲשֶֽׂה׃ [1] Silluq

ר֣וּחַ אֱלֹהִ֔ים [2] Zaqef
 
וַיִּתְנַבֵּ֖א [2] Tip'cha
בְּתוֹכָֽם׃ [1] Silluq

behold, a company of prophets [2]

and it rushed on him, [3]
the Spirit of God, [2]
 
and he prophesied [2]

וַיִּרְא֕וּ [2] ZaqefG

הָיְתָ֣ה לְמָשָׁ֔ל [2] Zaqef

“And who is their father?” [1]

it became a proverb, [2]
 
“Is Saul also [2]
among the prophets?” [1]

from prophesying, [2]
 
he came [2]
to the high place, [1]
14 וַיֹּ֩אמֶר֩ דּ֨וֹד שָׁא֥וּל אֵלָ֛יו [3] Tevir
וְאֶֽל־נַעֲר֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha
אָ֣ן הֲלַכְתֶּ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
וַיֹּ֕אמֶר [2] ZaqefG
 
לְבַקֵּשׁ֙ [3] Pashta
אֶת־הָ֣אֲתֹנ֔וֹת [2] Zaqef
 
וַנִּרְאֶ֣ה כִי־אַ֔יִן [2] Zaqef
וַנָּב֖וֹא [2] Tip'cha
אֶל־שְׁמוּאֵֽל׃ [1] Silluq

and he said, [2]
 
“To seek [3]
the donkeys, [2]
 
and when we saw that they were not found, [2]

הַגִּֽידָה־נָּ֣א לִ֔י [2] Zaqef
מָה־אָמַ֥ר לָכֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha

the uncle of Saul, [1]
 
“Please tell me, [2]
what did he say to you, [2]
Samuel.” [1]
16 וַיֹּ֤אמֶר שָׁאוּל֙ [3] Pashta
אֶל־דּוֹד֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
 
הַגֵּ֤ד הִגִּיד֙ [3] Pashta
לָ֔נוּ [2] Zaqef
 
כִּ֥י נִמְצְא֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
הָאֲתֹנ֑וֹת [1] Etnachta
 
וְאֶת־דְּבַ֤ר הַמְּלוּכָה֙ [3] Pashta
לֹא־הִגִּ֣יד ל֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
 
אֲשֶׁ֖ר [2] Tip'cha
אָמַ֥ר שְׁמוּאֵֽל׃ [1] Silluq

the people, [2]
 
to the LORD, [2]
to Mizpah; [1]
18 וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ׀ [4] Legarmeh
אֶל־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל [3] Revi'i

כֹּֽה־אָמַ֤ר יְהֹוָה֙ [3] Pashta
אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל [2] Zaqef

הֶעֱלֵ֥יתִי אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל [2] Tip'cha

וָאַצִּ֤יל אֶתְכֶם֙ [3] Pashta
מִיַּ֣ד מִצְרַ֔יִם [2] Zaqef
 
וּמִיַּד֙ [3] Pashta
כׇּל־הַמַּמְלָכ֔וֹת [2] Zaqef
 
הַלֹּחֲצִ֖ים [2] Tip'cha
אֶתְכֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq

“Thus says the LORD, [3]
the God of Israel, [2]
 
‘I, [3]
I brought up Israel [2]
from Egypt; [1]
 
and I delivered you [3]
from the hand of Egypt, [2]
 
and from the hand [3]
of all the kingdoms [2]
 
that were oppressing [2]
you.’ [1]
19 וְאַתֶּ֨ם הַיּ֜וֹם [4] Geresh
מְאַסְתֶּ֣ם אֶת־אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֗ם [3] Revi'i
 
אֲשֶׁר־ה֨וּא מוֹשִׁ֣יעַ לָכֶם֮ [3] Zarqa
מִכׇּל־רָעוֹתֵיכֶ֣ם וְצָרֹתֵיכֶם֒ [2] Segol
 
וַתֹּ֣אמְרוּ ל֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
כִּי־מֶ֖לֶךְ [2] Tip'cha
תָּשִׂ֣ים עָלֵ֑ינוּ [1] Etnachta
 
וְעַתָּ֗ה [3] Revi'i
הִֽתְיַצְּבוּ֙ [3] Pashta
לִפְנֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
לְשִׁבְטֵיכֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
וּלְאַלְפֵיכֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq

you have rejected your God [3]
 
who is your deliverer [3]
from all your calamities and your troubles, [2]
 
and you have said to him, [2]
‘No, a king [2]
appoint over us.’ [1]

before the LORD, [2]
 
by your tribes [2]
and by your families.” [1]

כׇּל־שִׁבְטֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל [1] Etnachta
 
וַיִּלָּכֵ֖ד [2] Tip'cha
שֵׁ֥בֶט בִּנְיָמִֽן׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 2 20 So Samuel brought near [2]

all the tribes of Israel; [1]
 
and it was taken by lot, [2]
the tribe of Benjamin. [1]
21 וַיַּקְרֵ֞ב [4] Gershayim
אֶת־שֵׁ֤בֶט בִּנְיָמִן֙ [3] Pashta
לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֔ו [2] Zaqef
 
וַתִּלָּכֵ֖ד [2] Tip'cha
מִשְׁפַּ֣חַת הַמַּטְרִ֑י [1] Etnachta
 
וַיִּלָּכֵד֙ [3] Pashta
שָׁא֣וּל בֶּן־קִ֔ישׁ [2] Zaqef
 
וַיְבַקְשֻׁ֖הוּ [2] Tip'cha
וְלֹ֥א נִמְצָֽא׃ [1] Silluq

the tribe of Benjamin [3]
by its families, [2]
 
and it was taken by lot, [2]

Then he was taken by lot, [3]
Saul the son of Kish; [2]

22 וַיִּשְׁאֲלוּ־עוֹד֙ [3] Pashta

הֲבָ֥א ע֖וֹד [2] Tip'cha

הִנֵּה־ה֥וּא נֶחְבָּ֖א [2] Tip'cha
אֶל־הַכֵּלִֽים׃ [1] Silluq

of the LORD, [2]
 
“Has he yet come [2]
here the man?” [1]

And the LORD said, [2]
“Behold, he is hiding himself [2]
among the baggage.” [1]
23 וַיָּרֻ֙צוּ֙ [3 3] Pashta
וַיִּקָּחֻ֣הוּ מִשָּׁ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
וַיִּתְיַצֵּ֖ב [2] Tip'cha
בְּת֣וֹךְ הָעָ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
וַיִּגְבַּהּ֙ [3] Pashta
מִכׇּל־הָעָ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
מִשִּׁכְמ֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha
וָמָֽעְלָה׃ [1] Silluq

and they took him from there, [2]
 
and when he presented himself [2]
among the people; [1]
 
he was taller [3]
than any of the people, [2]
 
from his shoulder [2]

אֵ֥ין כָּמֹ֖הוּ [2] Tip'cha
בְּכׇל־הָעָ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
וַיָּרִ֧עוּ כׇל־הָעָ֛ם [3] Tevir
וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
יְחִ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ [1] Silluq

him whom the LORD has chosen, [2]

there is no one like him [2]
among all the people?” [1]
 
And all the people shouted [3]

מִשְׁפַּ֣ט הַמְּלֻכָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
וַיִּכְתֹּ֣ב בַּסֵּ֔פֶר [2] Zaqef
וַיַּנַּ֖ח [2] Tip'cha
לִפְנֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֑ה [1] Etnachta
 
וַיְשַׁלַּ֧ח שְׁמוּאֵ֛ל [3] Tevir
אֶת־כׇּל־הָעָ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
אִ֥ישׁ לְבֵיתֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq

to the people [3]

and he wrote in the book [2]
and he set it [2]
before the LORD; [1]
 
and Samuel sent away [3]

he went to his own house [2]
to Gibeah; [1]
 
and they went with him, [2]
the army, [2]
those who God had touched [2]
in their heart. [1]
27 וּבְנֵ֧י בְלִיַּ֣עַל אָמְר֗וּ [3] Revi'i
מַה־יֹּשִׁעֵ֙נוּ֙ [3 3] Pashta
זֶ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
וַיִּבְזֻ֕הוּ [2] ZaqefG
וְלֹא־הֵבִ֥יאוּ ל֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha
מִנְחָ֑ה [1] Etnachta
 
וַיְהִ֖י [2] Tip'cha
כְּמַחֲרִֽישׁ׃ [1] Silluq
