was Kish the son of Abiel, [4]
the son of Zeror, the son of Becorath, [3]
the son of Aphiah, [2]
 
the son of a Benjamite; [1]
 
a mighty man [2]

2 וְלוֹ־הָיָ֨ה בֵ֜ן [4] Geresh

וְאֵ֥ין אִ֛ישׁ [3] Tevir
מִבְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל [2] Tip'cha
ט֣וֹב מִמֶּ֑נּוּ [1] Etnachta
 
מִשִּׁכְמ֣וֹ וָמַ֔עְלָה [2] Zaqef

מִכׇּל־הָעָֽם׃ [1] Silluq

a handsome young man, [2]
 
and there was not a man [3]
of the children of Israel [2]
more handsome than he; [1]
 
from his shoulders and upward, [2]
he was taller [2]

קַח־נָ֤א אִתְּךָ֙ [3] Pashta
אֶת־אַחַ֣ד מֵֽהַנְּעָרִ֔ים [2] Zaqef
 
וְק֣וּם לֵ֔ךְ [2] Zaqef
בַּקֵּ֖שׁ [2] Tip'cha
אֶת־הָאֲתֹנֹֽת׃ [1] Silluq

4 וַיַּעֲבֹ֧ר בְּהַר־אֶפְרַ֛יִם [3] Tevir
וַיַּעֲבֹ֥ר בְּאֶֽרֶץ־שָׁלִ֖שָׁה [2] Tip'cha
וְלֹ֣א מָצָ֑אוּ [1] Etnachta
 
וַיַּעַבְר֤וּ בְאֶרֶץ־שַֽׁעֲלִים֙ [3] Pashta
וָאַ֔יִן [2] Zaqef
 
וַיַּעֲבֹ֥ר בְּאֶרֶץ־יְמִינִ֖י [2] Tip'cha
וְלֹ֥א מָצָֽאוּ׃ [1] Silluq

and he passed through the land of Shalishah, [2]
but they didn’t find them. [1]
 
And they passed through the land of Shaalim [3]
and not there, [2]
 
and he passed through the land of the Benjamites [2]
but they didn’t find them. [1]

לְכָ֣ה וְנָשׁ֑וּבָה [1] Etnachta
 
פֶּן־יֶחְדַּ֥ל אָבִ֛י [3] Tevir
מִן־הָאֲתֹנ֖וֹת [2] Tip'cha
וְדָ֥אַג לָֽנוּ׃ [1] Silluq

“Come! Let’s return, [1]
 
lest my father stop caring [3]
about the donkeys, [2]

הִנֵּה־נָ֤א אִישׁ־אֱלֹהִים֙ [3] Pashta
בָּעִ֣יר הַזֹּ֔את [2] Zaqef
 
וְהָאִ֣ישׁ נִכְבָּ֔ד [2] Zaqef
כֹּ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־יְדַבֵּ֖ר [2] Tip'cha
בּ֣וֹא יָב֑וֹא [1] Etnachta
 
עַתָּה֙ [3] Pashta
נֵ֣לְכָה שָּׁ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
אוּלַי֙ [3] Pashta
יַגִּ֣יד לָ֔נוּ [2] Zaqef
 
אֶת־דַּרְכֵּ֖נוּ [2] Tip'cha
אֲשֶׁר־הָלַ֥כְנוּ עָלֶֽיהָ׃ [1] Silluq

“Behold please, a man of God [3]

And the man is honored. [2]
All that he speaks, [2]

our journey [2]
on which we have walked.” [1]

וּמַה־נָּבִ֣יא לָאִישׁ֒ [2] Segol
 
כִּ֤י הַלֶּ֙חֶם֙ [3 3] Pashta
אָזַ֣ל מִכֵּלֵ֔ינוּ [2] Zaqef
 
וּתְשׁוּרָ֥ה אֵין־לְהָבִ֖יא [2] Tip'cha
לְאִ֣ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים [1] Etnachta
 
מָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
אִתָּֽנוּ׃ [1] Silluq

“But behold, if we go, [3]
what will we bring to the man? [2]

and there is not a gift to bring [2]

וְהִגִּ֥יד לָ֖נוּ [2] Tip'cha
אֶת־דַּרְכֵּֽנוּ׃ [1] Silluq

“Behold, [3]
I have in my hand [2]
 
a fourth part [2]
of a shekel of silver. [1]

to the man of God, [2]
 
and he will tell us [2]
our way.” [1]

“Well said. [2]
Come! Let’s go.” [1]

to the city [2]
 
in which there was [2]
the man of God. [1]

בְּמַעֲלֵ֣ה הָעִ֔יר [2] Zaqef
 
וְהֵ֙מָּה֙ [3 3] Pashta
מָצְא֣וּ נְעָר֔וֹת [2] Zaqef
 
יֹצְא֖וֹת [2] Tip'cha
לִשְׁאֹ֣ב מָ֑יִם [1] Etnachta
 
וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ לָהֶ֔ן [2] Zaqef
הֲיֵ֥שׁ בָּזֶ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
הָרֹאֶֽה׃ [1] Silluq

וַתֹּאמַ֥רְנָה יֵּ֖שׁ [2] Tip'cha
הִנֵּ֣ה לְפָנֶ֑יךָ [1] Etnachta
 
מַהֵ֣ר ׀ [4] Legarmeh
עַתָּ֗ה [3] Revi'i
 
כִּ֤י הַיּוֹם֙ [3] Pashta
בָּ֣א לָעִ֔יר [2] Zaqef
 
כִּ֣י זֶ֧בַח הַיּ֛וֹם [3] Tevir
לָעָ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
בַּבָּמָֽה׃ [1] Silluq

13 כְּבֹאֲכֶ֣ם הָעִ֣יר כֵּ֣ן תִּמְצְא֣וּן אֹת֡וֹ [4] Pazer
בְּטֶ֩רֶם֩ יַעֲלֶ֨ה הַבָּמָ֜תָה [4] Geresh
לֶאֱכֹ֗ל [3] Revi'i
 
כִּ֠י [4] TelishaG
לֹֽא־יֹאכַ֤ל הָעָם֙ [3] Pashta
עַד־בֹּא֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
 
כִּי־הוּא֙ [3] Pashta
יְבָרֵ֣ךְ הַזֶּ֔בַח [2] Zaqef
 
אַחֲרֵי־כֵ֖ן [2] Tip'cha
יֹאכְל֣וּ הַקְּרֻאִ֑ים [1] Etnachta
 
וְעַתָּ֣ה עֲל֔וּ [2] Zaqef
כִּי־אֹת֥וֹ כְהַיּ֖וֹם [2] Tip'cha
תִּמְצְא֥וּן אֹתֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq

the ear of Samuel; [1]

before Saul came [2]

אֶשְׁלַח֩ אֵלֶ֨יךָ אִ֜ישׁ [4] Geresh
מֵאֶ֣רֶץ בִּנְיָמִ֗ן [3] Revi'i
 
וּמְשַׁחְתּ֤וֹ לְנָגִיד֙ [3] Pashta
עַל־עַמִּ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל [2] Zaqef
 
וְהוֹשִׁ֥יעַ אֶת־עַמִּ֖י [2] Tip'cha
מִיַּ֣ד פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים [1] Etnachta
 
כִּ֤י רָאִ֙יתִי֙ [3 3] Pashta
אֶת־עַמִּ֔י [2] Zaqef

בָּ֥אָה צַעֲקָת֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha

the LORD said to him, [2]
 
“Behold, the man [3]
whom I spoke about to you. [2]
 
This one, [2]
he will rule over my people.” [1]

אֶת־שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל [2] Tip'cha
בְּת֣וֹךְ הַשָּׁ֑עַר [1] Etnachta
 
וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ [3 3] Pashta
הַגִּֽידָה־נָּ֣א לִ֔י [2] Zaqef
 
אֵי־זֶ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
בֵּ֥ית הָרֹאֶֽה׃ [1] Silluq

“Please tell me [2]
 
where this is, [2]
the house of the seer.” [1]

אָנֹכִ֣י הָרֹאֶ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
עֲלֵ֤ה לְפָנַי֙ [3] Pashta
הַבָּמָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
וַאֲכַלְתֶּ֥ם עִמִּ֖י [2] Tip'cha
הַיּ֑וֹם [1] Etnachta
 
וְשִׁלַּחְתִּ֣יךָ בַבֹּ֔קֶר [2] Zaqef
 
וְכֹ֛ל [3] Tevir
אֲשֶׁ֥ר בִּֽלְבָבְךָ֖ [2] Tip'cha
אַגִּ֥יד לָֽךְ׃ [1] Silluq

“I am the seer. [2]

to the high place, [2]
 
and you will eat with me [2]

that is in your heart, [2]
I will tell you. [1]

אַל־תָּ֧שֶׂם אֶֽת־לִבְּךָ֛ [3] Tevir
לָהֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
כִּ֣י נִמְצָ֑אוּ [1] Etnachta
 
וּלְמִי֙ [3] Pashta
כׇּל־חֶמְדַּ֣ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל [2] Zaqef
 
הֲל֣וֹא לְךָ֔ [2] Zaqef
וּלְכֹ֖ל [2] Tip'cha
בֵּ֥ית אָבִֽיךָ׃ [1] Silluq

וּמִשְׁפַּחְתִּי֙ [3] Pashta
הַצְּעִרָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
מִכׇּֽל־מִשְׁפְּח֖וֹת [2] Tip'cha
שִׁבְטֵ֣י בִנְיָמִ֑ן [1] Etnachta
 
וְלָ֙מָּה֙ [3 3] Pashta
דִּבַּ֣רְתָּ אֵלַ֔י [2] Zaqef

of the tribes of Israel? [2]

do you speak to me [2]
 
like [2]

וַיִּתֵּ֨ן לָהֶ֤ם מָקוֹם֙ [3] Pashta
בְּרֹ֣אשׁ הַקְּרוּאִ֔ים [2] Zaqef
 
וְהֵ֖מָּה [2] Tip'cha
כִּשְׁלֹשִׁ֥ם אִֽישׁ׃ [1] Silluq

הִנֵּ֤ה הַנִּשְׁאָר֙ [3] Pashta
שִׂים־לְפָנֶ֣יךָ אֱכֹ֔ל [2] Zaqef
 
כִּ֧י לַמּוֹעֵ֛ד [3] Tevir
שָֽׁמוּר־לְךָ֥ לֵאמֹ֖ר [2] Tip'cha
הָעָ֣ם ׀ קָרָ֑אתִי [1] Etnachta

בַּיּ֥וֹם הַהֽוּא׃ [1] Silluq

and he set it [4]
before Saul, [3]
 
and he (Samuel) said, [3 3]
“Behold, that which has been reserved. [3]
Set it before you and eat; [2]
 
because for the appointed time [3]
it has been kept for you saying, [2]
‘The people I have invited.’ ” [1]
 
So Saul ate [3]
with Samuel [2]
that day. [1]
25 וַיֵּרְד֥וּ מֵהַבָּמָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
הָעִ֑יר [1] Etnachta
 
וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר עִם־שָׁא֖וּל [2] Tip'cha
עַל־הַגָּֽג׃ [1] Silluq

he spoke with Saul [2]
on the roof. [1]
26 וַיַּשְׁכִּ֗מוּ [3] Revi'i
 
וַיְהִ֞י [4] Gershayim
כַּעֲל֤וֹת הַשַּׁ֙חַר֙ [3 3] Pashta
 
וַיִּקְרָ֨א שְׁמוּאֵ֤ל אֶל־שָׁאוּל֙ [3] Pashta
*הגג **הַגָּ֣גָה לֵאמֹ֔ר [2] Zaqef
 
ק֖וּמָה [2] Tip'cha
וַאֲשַׁלְּחֶ֑ךָּ [1] Etnachta
 
וַיָּ֣קׇם שָׁא֗וּל [3] Revi'i
וַיֵּצְא֧וּ שְׁנֵיהֶ֛ם [3] Tevir
ה֥וּא וּשְׁמוּאֵ֖ל [2] Tip'cha
הַחֽוּצָה׃ [1] Silluq

Samuel called to Saul [3]
on the roof saying, [2]
 
“Arise, [2]
that I may send you away.” [1]
 
And Saul arose, [3]
and the two of them went out, [3]
he and Samuel, [2]
to the outside. [1]

וְיַעֲבֹ֥ר לְפָנֵ֖ינוּ [2] Tip'cha
 
וַֽיַּעֲבֹ֑ר [1] Etnachta
 
וְאַתָּה֙ [3] Pashta
עֲמֹ֣ד כַּיּ֔וֹם [2] Zaqef
 
וְאַשְׁמִיעֲךָ֖ [2] Tip'cha
אֶת־דְּבַ֥ר אֱלֹהִֽים׃ [1] Silluq
