שמואל א 8 | 1 Samuel 8 | |||
1 Now [2] when he was old, [2] Samuel, [1] judges [2] over Israel. [1] |
2 Now [4] the name of his firstborn son [3] was Joel, [2] was Abijah. [1] in Beersheba. [1] |
3 And his sons didn’t walk [3] in his ways, [2] after dishonest gain; [1] and they perverted [2] justice. [1] ¶ |
[1] Silluq |
4 Then they gathered themselves together, [2] all [2] the elders of Israel; [1] to Ramah. [1] |
5 And they said to him, [3] “Look, [3] you are old, [2] they haven't walked [2] in your ways. [1] appoint for us a king [3] to judge us [2] like all the nations.” [1] |
6 But the matter was displeasing [3] in the eyes of Samuel, [2] “Give us a king [2] to judge us.” [1] to the LORD. [1] ¶ |
7 And the LORD said [3] to Samuel, [2] to the voice of the people [2] to you; [1] they have rejected, [2] from reigning over them. [1] |
8 According to all the deeds which they have done, [3] since the day that I brought them up from Egypt [3 3] even to this day, [2] and they have served [2] other gods; [1] they are doing [2] also to you. [1] |
9 Now therefore, [2] listen to their voice; [1] you shall protest solemnly [3] to them, [2] the way of the king [2] who will reign [2] over them.” [1] § |
