1 וַיְהִ֤י רָעָב֙ [3] Pashta בָּאָ֔רֶץ [2] Zaqef הָרָעָ֣ב הָרִאשׁ֔וֹן [2] Zaqef בִּימֵ֣י אַבְרָהָ֑ם [1] Etnachta אֶל־אֲבִימֶ֥לֶךְ מֶֽלֶךְ־פְּלִשְׁתִּ֖ים [2] Tip'cha גְּרָֽרָה׃ [1] Silluq |
1 Now there was a famine [3] in the land, [2] the first famine [2] in the days of Abraham; [1] to Abimelech king of the Philistines, [2] to Gerar. [1] |

2 וַיֵּרָ֤א אֵלָיו֙ [3] Pashta יְהֹוָ֔ה [2] Zaqef אַל־תֵּרֵ֣ד מִצְרָ֑יְמָה [1] Etnachta אֲשֶׁ֖ר [2] Tip'cha אֹמַ֥ר אֵלֶֽיךָ׃ [1] Silluq |
2 And he appeared to him, [3] the LORD, [2] “Don’t go down into Egypt. [1] which [2] I will tell you about. [1] |

3 גּ֚וּר [3] Yetiv בָּאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֔את [2] Zaqef וַאֲבָרְכֶ֑ךָּ [1] Etnachta אֶתֵּן֙ [3] Pashta אֶת־כׇּל־הָֽאֲרָצֹ֣ת הָאֵ֔ל [2] Zaqef אֶת־הַשְּׁבֻעָ֔ה [2] Zaqef לְאַבְרָהָ֥ם אָבִֽיךָ׃ [1] Silluq |
3 Sojourn [3] in this land, [2] and I will bless you; [1] I will give [3] all these lands, [2] the oath [2] to Abraham your father. [1] |

4 וְהִרְבֵּיתִ֤י אֶֽת־זַרְעֲךָ֙ [3] Pashta כְּכוֹכְבֵ֣י הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם [2] Zaqef אֵ֥ת כׇּל־הָאֲרָצֹ֖ת [2] Tip'cha הָאֵ֑ל [1] Etnachta כֹּ֖ל [2] Tip'cha גּוֹיֵ֥י הָאָֽרֶץ׃ [1] Silluq |
4 And I will multiply your offspring [3] like the stars of the sky, [2] all the lands [2] these; [1] all [2] the nations of the earth, [1] |

5 עֵ֕קֶב [2] ZaqefG אֲשֶׁר־שָׁמַ֥ע אַבְרָהָ֖ם [2] Tip'cha בְּקֹלִ֑י [1] Etnachta מִשְׁמַרְתִּ֔י [2] Zaqef חֻקּוֹתַ֥י וְתוֹרֹתָֽי׃ [1] Silluq |
5 because [2] that Abraham listened [2] to my voice; [1] my requirements, [2] my statutes and my laws.” [1] |

6 וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב יִצְחָ֖ק [2] Tip'cha בִּגְרָֽר׃ [1] Silluq |
6 And Isaac stayed [2] in Gerar. [1] |

7 וַֽיִּשְׁאֲל֞וּ [4] Gershayim אַנְשֵׁ֤י הַמָּקוֹם֙ [3] Pashta לְאִשְׁתּ֔וֹ [2] Zaqef אֲחֹ֣תִי הִ֑וא [1] Etnachta לֵאמֹ֣ר אִשְׁתִּ֔י [2] Zaqef אַנְשֵׁ֤י הַמָּקוֹם֙ [3] Pashta עַל־רִבְקָ֔ה [2] Zaqef הִֽוא׃ [1] Silluq |
7 And they asked, [4] the men of the place, [3] about his wife, [2] “She is my sister,” [1] to say, “My wife”, [2] the men of the place, [3] for Rebekah, [2] is she.” [1] |

8 וַיְהִ֗י [3] Revi'i כִּ֣י אָֽרְכוּ־ל֥וֹ שָׁם֙ [3] Pashta הַיָּמִ֔ים [2] Zaqef אֲבִימֶ֙לֶךְ֙ [3 3] Pashta מֶ֣לֶךְ פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים [2] Zaqef הַֽחַלּ֑וֹן [1] Etnachta וְהִנֵּ֤ה יִצְחָק֙ [3] Pashta מְצַחֵ֔ק [2] Zaqef רִבְקָ֥ה אִשְׁתּֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq |
8 And it happened, [3] when long he had been there [3] the days, [2] Abimelech [3 3] king of the Philistines, [2] the window; [1] and behold, Isaac [3] was caressing [2] Rebekah his wife. [1] |

9 וַיִּקְרָ֨א אֲבִימֶ֜לֶךְ [4] Geresh לְיִצְחָ֗ק [3] Revi'i אַ֣ךְ הִנֵּ֤ה אִשְׁתְּךָ֙ [3] Pashta הִ֔וא [2] Zaqef אֲחֹ֣תִי הִ֑וא [1] Etnachta יִצְחָ֔ק [2] Zaqef פֶּן־אָמ֖וּת [2] Tip'cha עָלֶֽיהָ׃ [1] Silluq |
9 And Abimelech called [4] Isaac, [3] “Behold, surely your wife [3] she is. [2] ‘She is my sister?’ ” [1] Isaac, [2] ‘Lest I should die [2] because of her.’ ” [1] |

10 וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲבִימֶ֔לֶךְ [2] Zaqef מַה־זֹּ֖את [2] Tip'cha עָשִׂ֣יתָ לָּ֑נוּ [1] Etnachta שָׁכַ֞ב [4] Gershayim אַחַ֤ד הָעָם֙ [3] Pashta אֶת־אִשְׁתֶּ֔ךָ [2] Zaqef אָשָֽׁם׃ [1] Silluq |
10 And Abimelech said, [2] “What is this [2] you have done to us? [1] he might have lain, [4] one of the people, [3] with your wife, [2] guilt!” [1] |

11 וַיְצַ֣ו אֲבִימֶ֔לֶךְ [2] Zaqef אֶת־כׇּל־הָעָ֖ם [2] Tip'cha לֵאמֹ֑ר [1] Etnachta בָּאִ֥ישׁ הַזֶּ֛ה [3] Tevir וּבְאִשְׁתּ֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha מ֥וֹת יוּמָֽת׃ [1] Silluq |
11 And Abimelech commanded [2] all the people, [2] saying; [1] this man [3] or his wife [2] will surely be put to death.” [1] |

12 וַיִּזְרַ֤ע יִצְחָק֙ [3] Pashta בָּאָ֣רֶץ הַהִ֔וא [2] Zaqef בַּשָּׁנָ֥ה הַהִ֖וא [2] Tip'cha מֵאָ֣ה שְׁעָרִ֑ים [1] Etnachta יְהֹוָֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
12 And Isaac sowed [3] in that land, [2] in that year [2] one hundred times as much; [1] the LORD. [1] |

13 וַיִּגְדַּ֖ל [2] Tip'cha הָאִ֑ישׁ [1] Etnachta וְגָדֵ֔ל [2] Zaqef מְאֹֽד׃ [1] Silluq |
13 And he grew great, [2] the man; [1] and more great, [2] very. [1] |

14 וַֽיְהִי־ל֤וֹ מִקְנֵה־צֹאן֙ [3] Pashta וּמִקְנֵ֣ה בָקָ֔ר [2] Zaqef רַבָּ֑ה [1] Etnachta פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃ [1] Silluq |
14 And he had flocks of sheep [3] and herds of cattle, [2] many; [1] the Philistines. [1] |

15 וְכׇל־הַבְּאֵרֹ֗ת [3] Revi'i אֲשֶׁ֤ר חָֽפְרוּ֙ [3] Pashta עַבְדֵ֣י אָבִ֔יו [2] Zaqef אַבְרָהָ֣ם אָבִ֑יו [1] Etnachta וַיְמַלְא֖וּם [2] Tip'cha עָפָֽר׃ [1] Silluq |
15 Now all the wells [3] which they had dug, [3] the servants of his father, [2] of Abraham his father; [1] and they filled them [2] with earth. [1] |

16 וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֲבִימֶ֖לֶךְ [2] Tip'cha אֶל־יִצְחָ֑ק [1] Etnachta מֵֽעִמָּ֔נוּ [2] Zaqef מְאֹֽד׃ [1] Silluq |
16 And Abimelech said [2] to Isaac; [1] away from us, [2] much.” [1] |

17 וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ מִשָּׁ֖ם [2] Tip'cha יִצְחָ֑ק [1] Etnachta וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב שָֽׁם׃ [1] Silluq |
17 And he departed from there, [2] Isaac; [1] and he lived there. [1] |

18 וַיָּ֨שׇׁב יִצְחָ֜ק [4] Geresh וַיַּחְפֹּ֣ר ׀ [4] Legarmeh אֶת־בְּאֵרֹ֣ת הַמַּ֗יִם [3] Revi'i בִּימֵי֙ [3] Pashta אַבְרָהָ֣ם אָבִ֔יו [2] Zaqef אַחֲרֵ֖י [2] Tip'cha מ֣וֹת אַבְרָהָ֑ם [1] Etnachta שֵׁמ֔וֹת [2] Zaqef אֲשֶׁר־קָרָ֥א לָהֶ֖ן [2] Tip'cha אָבִֽיו׃ [1] Silluq |
18 And Isaac, again [4] he dug [4] the wells of water [3] in the days [3] of Abraham his father, [2] after [2] the death of Abraham; [1] names, [2] which he had called them, [2] his father. [1] |

19 וַיַּחְפְּר֥וּ עַבְדֵֽי־יִצְחָ֖ק [2] Tip'cha בַּנָּ֑חַל [1] Etnachta בְּאֵ֖ר [2] Tip'cha מַ֥יִם חַיִּֽים׃ [1] Silluq |
19 And the servants of Isaac dug [2] in the valley; [1] a well [2] of flowing water. [1] |

20 וַיָּרִ֜יבוּ [4] Geresh רֹעֵ֣י גְרָ֗ר [3] Revi'i לֵאמֹ֖ר [2] Tip'cha עֵ֔שֶׂק [2] Zaqef עִמּֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq |
20 And they argued, [4] the herdsmen of Gerar, [3] saying, [2] Esek, [2] with him. [1] |

21 וַֽיַּחְפְּרוּ֙ [3] Pashta בְּאֵ֣ר אַחֶ֔רֶת [2] Zaqef גַּם־עָלֶ֑יהָ [1] Etnachta שִׂטְנָֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
21 And they dug [3] another well, [2] also over that; [1] Sitnah. [1] |

22 וַיַּעְתֵּ֣ק מִשָּׁ֗ם [3] Revi'i וַיַּחְפֹּר֙ [3] Pashta בְּאֵ֣ר אַחֶ֔רֶת [2] Zaqef עָלֶ֑יהָ [1] Etnachta רְחֹב֔וֹת [2] Zaqef הִרְחִ֧יב יְהֹוָ֛ה [3] Tevir לָ֖נוּ [2] Tip'cha |
22 And he left that place, [3] and he dug [3] another well, [2] over that one; [1] Rehoboth, [2] the LORD has made room [3] for us, [2] |

23 וַיַּ֥עַל מִשָּׁ֖ם [2] Tip'cha בְּאֵ֥ר שָֽׁבַע׃ [1] Silluq |
23 And he went up from there to [2] Beersheba. [1] |
|||
24 וַיֵּרָ֨א אֵלָ֤יו יְהֹוָה֙ [3] Pashta בַּלַּ֣יְלָה הַה֔וּא [2] Zaqef אָנֹכִ֕י [2] ZaqefG אֱלֹהֵ֖י [2] Tip'cha אַבְרָהָ֣ם אָבִ֑יךָ [1] Etnachta כִּֽי־אִתְּךָ֣ אָנֹ֔כִי [2] Zaqef וְהִרְבֵּיתִ֣י אֶֽת־זַרְעֲךָ֔ [2] Zaqef אַבְרָהָ֥ם עַבְדִּֽי׃ [1] Silluq |
24 And the LORD appeared to him [3] the same night, [2] “I [2] am the God [2] of Abraham your father. [1] for I am with you, [2] and I will multiply your offspring, [2] Abraham my servant.” [1] |

25 וַיִּ֧בֶן שָׁ֣ם מִזְבֵּ֗חַ [3] Revi'i וַיִּקְרָא֙ [3] Pashta בְּשֵׁ֣ם יְהֹוָ֔ה [2] Zaqef אׇהֳל֑וֹ [1] Etnachta בְּאֵֽר׃ [1] Silluq |
25 And he built an altar there, [3] and he called [3] on the name of the LORD, [2] his tent; [1] a well. [1] |

26 וַאֲבִימֶ֕לֶךְ [2] ZaqefG הָלַ֥ךְ אֵלָ֖יו [2] Tip'cha מִגְּרָ֑ר [1] Etnachta מֵֽרֵעֵ֔הוּ [2] Zaqef שַׂר־צְבָאֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq |
26 Then Abimelech, [2] he came to him [2] from Gerar; [1] his close friend, [2] the captain of his army. [1] |

27 וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֲלֵהֶם֙ [3] Pashta יִצְחָ֔ק [2] Zaqef בָּאתֶ֣ם אֵלָ֑י [1] Etnachta שְׂנֵאתֶ֣ם אֹתִ֔י [2] Zaqef מֵאִתְּכֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq |
27 And he said to them, [3] Isaac, [2] have you come to me; [1] you hate me, [2] from you?” [1] |

28 וַיֹּאמְר֗וּ [3] Revi'i רָא֣וֹ רָאִ֘ינוּ֮ [3 3] Zarqa כִּֽי־הָיָ֣ה יְהֹוָ֣ה ׀ עִמָּךְ֒ [2] Segol תְּהִ֨י נָ֥א אָלָ֛ה [3] Tevir בֵּינוֹתֵ֖ינוּ [2] Tip'cha בֵּינֵ֣ינוּ וּבֵינֶ֑ךָ [1] Etnachta עִמָּֽךְ׃ [1] Silluq |
28 And they said, [3] “We have seen clearly [3 3] that the LORD has been with you, [2] ‘Let there now be an oath [3] between us, [2] between us and you; [1] with you, [1] |

29 אִם־תַּעֲשֵׂ֨ה עִמָּ֜נוּ [4] Geresh רָעָ֗ה [3] Revi'i לֹ֣א נְגַֽעֲנ֔וּךָ [2] Zaqef רַק־ט֔וֹב [2] Zaqef בְּשָׁל֑וֹם [1] Etnachta בְּר֥וּךְ יְהֹוָֽה׃ [1] Silluq |
29 that you will do us no [4] harm, [3] we have not touched you, [2] only good, [2] in peace.’ [1] blessed of the LORD.” [1] |

30 וַיַּ֤עַשׂ לָהֶם֙ [3] Pashta מִשְׁתֶּ֔ה [2] Zaqef וַיִּשְׁתּֽוּ׃ [1] Silluq |
30 And he made for them [3] a feast, [2] and they drank. [1] |
|||
31 וַיַּשְׁכִּ֣ימוּ בַבֹּ֔קֶר [2] Zaqef וַיִּשָּׁבְע֖וּ [2] Tip'cha אִ֣ישׁ לְאָחִ֑יו [1] Etnachta וַיֵּלְכ֥וּ מֵאִתּ֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha בְּשָׁלֽוֹם׃ [1] Silluq |
31 And they rose up early in the morning, [2] and they swore an oath [2] to one another; [1] and they departed from him [2] in peace. [1] |

32 וַיְהִ֣י ׀ [4] Legarmeh בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֗וּא [3] Revi'i עַבְדֵ֣י יִצְחָ֔ק [2] Zaqef עַל־אֹד֥וֹת הַבְּאֵ֖ר [2] Tip'cha אֲשֶׁ֣ר חָפָ֑רוּ [1] Etnachta מָצָ֥אנוּ מָֽיִם׃ [1] Silluq |
32 And it happened [4] on that day, [3] the servants of Isaac, [2] about the well [2] which they had dug; [1] “We have found water.” [1] |

33 וַיִּקְרָ֥א אֹתָ֖הּ [2] Tip'cha שִׁבְעָ֑ה [1] Etnachta בְּאֵ֣ר שֶׁ֔בַע [2] Zaqef הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃ [1] Silluq ס |
33 And he called it [2] “Shibah,” [1] is “Beersheba” [2] this day. [1] § |

34 When Esau was [3] a son of forty years, [2] Judith, [2] the Hittite; [1] the daughter of Elon [2] the Hittite. [1] |
