1 וַתֵּצֵ֤א דִינָה֙ [3] Pashta
בַּת־לֵאָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
אֲשֶׁ֥ר יָלְדָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
לְיַעֲקֹ֑ב [1] Etnachta
 
לִרְא֖וֹת [2] Tip'cha
בִּבְנ֥וֹת הָאָֽרֶץ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 1 And she went out, Dinah [3]
the daughter of Leah, [2]
 
whom she had borne [2]
to Jacob; [1]
 
to see [2]
the daughters of the land. [1]
2 וַיַּ֨רְא אֹתָ֜הּ [4] Geresh
שְׁכֶ֧ם בֶּן־חֲמ֛וֹר [3] Tevir
הַֽחִוִּ֖י [2] Tip'cha
נְשִׂ֣יא הָאָ֑רֶץ [1] Etnachta
 
וַיִּקַּ֥ח אֹתָ֛הּ [3] Tevir
וַיִּשְׁכַּ֥ב אֹתָ֖הּ [2] Tip'cha
וַיְעַנֶּֽהָ׃ [1] Silluq

Shechem the son of Hamor [3]
the Hivite, [2]
the chief of the land; [1]
 
and he took her [3]
and he lay with her, [2]
and he humiliated her. [1]
3 וַתִּדְבַּ֣ק נַפְשׁ֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
בְּדִינָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
בַּֽת־יַעֲקֹ֑ב [1] Etnachta
 
וַיֶּֽאֱהַב֙ [3] Pashta
אֶת־הַֽנַּעֲרָ֔ [2] Zaqef
 
וַיְדַבֵּ֖ר [2] Tip'cha
עַל־לֵ֥ב הַֽנַּעֲרָֽ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 2 3 2 3 And his soul joined [2]
to Dinah [2]
the daughter of Jacob; [1]
 
and he loved [3]
the girl, [2]
 
and he spoke [2]
kindly to the girl. [1]
4 וַיֹּ֣אמֶר שְׁכֶ֔ם [2] Zaqef
אֶל־חֲמ֥וֹר אָבִ֖יו [2] Tip'cha
לֵאמֹ֑ר [1] Etnachta
 
קַֽח־לִ֛י [3] Tevir
אֶת־הַיַּלְדָּ֥ה הַזֹּ֖את [2] Tip'cha
לְאִשָּֽׁה׃ [1] Silluq

to Hamor his father [2]
saying; [1]
 
“Get for me [3]
this girl [2]
as a wife.” [1]
5 וְיַעֲקֹ֣ב שָׁמַ֗ע [3] Revi'i
כִּ֤י טִמֵּא֙ [3] Pashta
אֶת־דִּינָ֣ה בִתּ֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
 
וּבָנָ֛יו [3] Tevir
הָי֥וּ אֶת־מִקְנֵ֖הוּ [2] Tip'cha
בַּשָּׂדֶ֑ה [1] Etnachta
 
וְהֶחֱרִ֥שׁ יַעֲקֹ֖ב [2] Tip'cha
עַד־בֹּאָֽם׃ [1] Silluq

that he had defiled [3]
Dinah his daughter, [2]
 
and his sons, [3]
they were with his livestock [2]
in the field; [1]
 
and Jacob kept silent [2]
until they came. [1]
6 וַיֵּצֵ֛א [3] Tevir
חֲמ֥וֹר אֲבִֽי־שְׁכֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
אֶֽל־יַעֲקֹ֑ב [1] Etnachta
 
לְדַבֵּ֖ר [2] Tip'cha
אִתּֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq

Hamor the father of Shechem, [2]
to Jacob; [1]
 
to talk [2]
with him. [1]
7 וּבְנֵ֨י יַעֲקֹ֜ב [4] Geresh
בָּ֤אוּ מִן־הַשָּׂדֶה֙ [3] Pashta
כְּשׇׁמְעָ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
וַיִּֽתְעַצְּבוּ֙ [3] Pashta
הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים [2] Zaqef
 
וַיִּ֥חַר לָהֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
מְאֹ֑ד [1] Etnachta
 
כִּֽי־נְבָלָ֞ה [4] Gershayim
עָשָׂ֣ה בְיִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל [3] Revi'i
 
לִשְׁכַּב֙ [3] Pashta
אֶת־בַּֽת־יַעֲקֹ֔ב [2] Zaqef
 
וְכֵ֖ן [2] Tip'cha
לֹ֥א יֵעָשֶֽׂה׃ [1] Silluq

they came in from the field [3]
when they heard it, [2]
 
and they were offended, [3]
the men, [2]
 
and they were angry [2]
exceedingly; [1]
 
because a disgraceful deed [4]
he had committed against Israel [3]
 
by lying with [3]
the daughter of Jacob, [2]
 
and such a thing [2]
is not done. [1]
8 וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר חֲמ֖וֹר [2] Tip'cha
אִתָּ֣ם לֵאמֹ֑ר [1] Etnachta
 
שְׁכֶ֣ם בְּנִ֗י [3] Revi'i
חָֽשְׁקָ֤ה נַפְשׁוֹ֙ [3] Pashta
בְּבִתְּכֶ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
תְּנ֨וּ נָ֥א אֹתָ֛הּ [3] Tevir
ל֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha
לְאִשָּֽׁה׃ [1] Silluq

with them saying; [1]
 
“Shechem my son, [3]
his soul longs for [3]
your daughter. [2]
 
Please give her [3]
to him [2]
as a wife, [1]
9 וְהִֽתְחַתְּנ֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
אֹתָ֑נוּ [1] Etnachta
 
בְּנֹֽתֵיכֶם֙ [3] Pashta
תִּתְּנוּ־לָ֔נוּ [2] Zaqef
 
וְאֶת־בְּנֹתֵ֖ינוּ [2] Tip'cha
תִּקְח֥וּ לָכֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq

us. [1]
 
Your daughters [3]
you will give to us, [2]
 
and our daughters [2]
you will take for yourselves, [1]
10 וְאִתָּ֖נוּ [2] Tip'cha
תֵּשֵׁ֑בוּ [1] Etnachta
 
וְהָאָ֙רֶץ֙ [3 3] Pashta
תִּהְיֶ֣ה לִפְנֵיכֶ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
שְׁבוּ֙ [3] Pashta
וּסְחָר֔וּהָ [2] Zaqef
 
וְהֵֽאָחֲז֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
בָּֽהּ׃ [1] Silluq

you will dwell; [1]
 
and the land, [3 3]
it will be before you. [2]
 
Live [3]
and trade in it, [2]
 
and get possessions [2]
in it.” [1]
11 וַיֹּ֤אמֶר שְׁכֶם֙ [3] Pashta
אֶל־אָבִ֣יהָ וְאֶל־אַחֶ֔יהָ [2] Zaqef
 
אֶמְצָא־חֵ֖ן [2] Tip'cha
בְּעֵינֵיכֶ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר תֹּאמְר֛וּ [3] Tevir
אֵלַ֖י [2] Tip'cha
אֶתֵּֽן׃ [1] Silluq

to her father and to her brothers, [2]
 
“Let me find favor [2]
in your eyes; [1]
 
and whatever you say [3]
to me, [2]
I will give. [1]
12 הַרְבּ֨וּ עָלַ֤י מְאֹד֙ [3] Pashta
מֹ֣הַר וּמַתָּ֔ן [2] Zaqef
 
וְאֶ֨תְּנָ֔ה [2] Zaqef
כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר תֹּאמְר֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
אֵלָ֑י [1] Etnachta
 
וּתְנוּ־לִ֥י אֶת־הַֽנַּעֲרָ֖ [2] Tip'cha
לְאִשָּֽׁה׃ [1] Silluq

for a bride price and a gift, [2]
 
and I will give [2]
whatever you say [2]
to me; [1]
 
but give me the girl [2]
as a wife.” [1]
13 וַיַּעֲנ֨וּ בְנֵֽי־יַעֲקֹ֜ב [4] Geresh
אֶת־שְׁכֶ֨ם וְאֶת־חֲמ֥וֹר אָבִ֛יו [3] Tevir
בְּמִרְמָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
וַיְדַבֵּ֑רוּ [1] Etnachta
 
אֲשֶׁ֣ר טִמֵּ֔א [2] Zaqef
אֵ֖ת [2] Tip'cha
דִּינָ֥ה אֲחֹתָֽם׃ [1] Silluq

Shechem and Hamor his father [3]
with deceit [2]
when they spoke; [1]
 
because he had defiled [2]

Dinah their sister, [1]
14 וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם [3] Revi'i
לֹ֤א נוּכַל֙ [3] Pashta
לַעֲשׂוֹת֙ [3] Pashta
הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה [2] Zaqef
 
לָתֵת֙ [3] Pashta
אֶת־אֲחֹתֵ֔נוּ [2] Zaqef
 
לְאִ֖ישׁ [2] Tip'cha
אֲשֶׁר־ל֣וֹ עׇרְלָ֑ה [1] Etnachta
 
כִּֽי־חֶרְפָּ֥ה הִ֖וא [2] Tip'cha
לָֽנוּ׃ [1] Silluq

“We aren't able [3]
to do [3]
this thing, [2]
 
to give [3]
our sister [2]
 
to a man [2]
who is uncircumcised; [1]
 
for that is a reproach [2]
to us. [1]
15 אַךְ־בְּזֹ֖את [2] Tip'cha
נֵא֣וֹת לָכֶ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
אִ֚ם [3] Yetiv
תִּהְי֣וּ כָמֹ֔נוּ [2] Zaqef
 
לְהִמֹּ֥ל לָכֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
כׇּל־זָכָֽר׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 3 2 15 Only on this condition [2]
will we agree to you. [1]
 
If [3]
you will be like us, [2]
 
by your being circumcised, [2]
every male, [1]
16 וְנָתַ֤נּוּ אֶת־בְּנֹתֵ֙ינוּ֙ [3 3] Pashta
לָכֶ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
וְאֶת־בְּנֹתֵיכֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
נִֽקַּֽח־לָ֑נוּ [1] Etnachta
 
וְיָשַׁ֣בְנוּ אִתְּכֶ֔ם [2] Zaqef
וְהָיִ֖ינוּ [2] Tip'cha
לְעַ֥ם אֶחָֽד׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 2 16 then will we give our daughters [3 3]
to you, [2]
 
and your daughters [2]
we will take for ourselves; [1]
 
and we will dwell with you, [2]
and we will become [2]
one people. [1]
17 וְאִם־לֹ֧א תִשְׁמְע֛וּ [3] Tevir
אֵלֵ֖ינוּ [2] Tip'cha
לְהִמּ֑וֹל [1] Etnachta
 
וְלָקַ֥חְנוּ אֶת־בִּתֵּ֖נוּ [2] Tip'cha
וְהָלָֽכְנוּ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 17 But if you will not listen [3]
to us [2]
by being circumcised; [1]
 
then we will take our daughter [2]
and we will go.” [1]
18 וַיִּֽיטְב֥וּ דִבְרֵיהֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
בְּעֵינֵ֣י חֲמ֑וֹר [1] Etnachta
 
וּבְעֵינֵ֖י [2] Tip'cha
שְׁכֶ֥ם בֶּן־חֲמֽוֹר׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 18 And their words were good [2]
in the eyes of Hamor; [1]
 
and in the eyes [2]
of Shechem son of Hamor. [1]
19 וְלֹֽא־אֵחַ֤ר הַנַּ֙עַר֙ [3 3] Pashta
לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת הַדָּבָ֔ר [2] Zaqef
 
כִּ֥י חָפֵ֖ץ [2] Tip'cha
בְּבַֽת־יַעֲקֹ֑ב [1] Etnachta
 
וְה֣וּא נִכְבָּ֔ד [2] Zaqef
מִכֹּ֖ל [2] Tip'cha
בֵּ֥ית אָבִֽיו׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 2 19 The young man didn’t wait [3 3]
to do this thing, [2]
 
because he delighted [2]
in the daughter of Jacob; [1]
 
and he was honored [2]
above all [2]
the household of his father. [1]
20 וַיָּבֹ֥א חֲמ֛וֹר [3] Tevir
וּשְׁכֶ֥ם בְּנ֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha
אֶל־שַׁ֣עַר עִירָ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
וַֽיְדַבְּר֛וּ [3] Tevir
אֶל־אַנְשֵׁ֥י עִירָ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
לֵאמֹֽר׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 3 20 And Hamor went [3]
and Shechem his son, [2]
to the gate of their city; [1]
 
and they spoke [3]
to the men of their city, [2]
saying, [1]
21 הָאֲנָשִׁ֨ים הָאֵ֜לֶּה [4] Geresh
שְֽׁלֵמִ֧ים הֵ֣ם אִתָּ֗נוּ [3] Revi'i
 
וְיֵשְׁב֤וּ בָאָ֙רֶץ֙ [3 3] Pashta
וְיִסְחֲר֣וּ אֹתָ֔הּ [2] Zaqef
 
וְהָאָ֛רֶץ [3] Tevir
הִנֵּ֥ה רַֽחֲבַת־יָדַ֖יִם [2] Tip'cha
לִפְנֵיהֶ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
אֶת־בְּנֹתָם֙ [3] Pashta
נִקַּֽח־לָ֣נוּ לְנָשִׁ֔ים [2] Zaqef
 
וְאֶת־בְּנֹתֵ֖ינוּ [2] Tip'cha
נִתֵּ֥ן לָהֶֽם׃ [1] Silluq

they are at peace with us, [3]
 
therefore let them live in the land [3 3]
and let them trade in it, [2]
 
for the land [3]
behold, it is large enough [2]
for them; [1]
 
their daughters [3]
we will take for ourselves as wives, [2]
 
and our daughters [2]
we will give to them. [1]
22 אַךְ־בְּ֠זֹ֠את [4 4] TelishaG
יֵאֹ֨תוּ לָ֤נוּ הָאֲנָשִׁים֙ [3] Pashta
לָשֶׁ֣בֶת אִתָּ֔נוּ [2] Zaqef
 
לִהְי֖וֹת [2] Tip'cha
לְעַ֣ם אֶחָ֑ד [1] Etnachta
 
בְּהִמּ֥וֹל לָ֙נוּ֙ [3 3] Pashta
כׇּל־זָכָ֔ר [2] Zaqef
 
כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר [2] Tip'cha
הֵ֥ם נִמֹּלִֽים׃ [1] Silluq

will the men agree to us [3]
to live with us, [2]
 
to become [2]
one people; [1]
 
when have been circumcised to us [3 3]
every male, [2]
 
just as [2]
they are circumcised. [1]
23 מִקְנֵהֶ֤ם וְקִנְיָנָם֙ [3] Pashta
וְכׇל־בְּהֶמְתָּ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
הֲל֥וֹא לָ֖נוּ [2] Tip'cha
הֵ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
אַ֚ךְ [3] Yetiv
נֵא֣וֹתָה לָהֶ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
וְיֵשְׁב֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
אִתָּֽנוּ׃ [1] Silluq

and all their animals, [2]
 
won't (they) be ours, [2]

Only [3]
let us agree to them, [2]
 
and they will dwell [2]

24 וַיִּשְׁמְע֤וּ אֶל־חֲמוֹר֙ [3] Pashta
וְאֶל־שְׁכֶ֣ם בְּנ֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
 
כׇּל־יֹצְאֵ֖י [2] Tip'cha
שַׁ֣עַר עִיר֑וֹ [1] Etnachta
 
וַיִּמֹּ֙לוּ֙ [3 3] Pashta
כׇּל־זָכָ֔ר [2] Zaqef
 
כׇּל־יֹצְאֵ֖י [2] Tip'cha
שַׁ֥עַר עִירֽוֹ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 3 2 24 And they listened to Hamor [3]
and to Shechem his son, [2]
 
all who went out [2]
of the gate of his city; [1]
 
and they were circumcised, [3 3]
every male, [2]
 
all who went out [2]
of the gate of his city. [1]
25 וַיְהִי֩ בַיּ֨וֹם הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֜י [4] Geresh
בִּֽהְיוֹתָ֣ם כֹּֽאֲבִ֗ים [3] Revi'i
 
וַיִּקְח֣וּ שְׁנֵֽי־בְנֵי־יַ֠עֲקֹ֠ב [4 4] TelishaG
שִׁמְע֨וֹן וְלֵוִ֜י [4] Geresh
אֲחֵ֤י דִינָה֙ [3] Pashta
אִ֣ישׁ חַרְבּ֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
 
וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ עַל־הָעִ֖יר [2] Tip'cha
בֶּ֑טַח [1] Etnachta
 
וַיַּֽהַרְג֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
כׇּל־זָכָֽר׃ [1] Silluq

when they were sore, [3]
 
they took, two of the sons of Jacob, [4 4]
Simeon and Levi [4]
the brothers of Dinah, [3]
each his sword, [2]
 
and they came upon the city [2]
unsuspecting; [1]
 
and they killed [2]
every male. [1]
26 וְאֶת־חֲמוֹר֙ [3] Pashta
וְאֶת־שְׁכֶ֣ם בְּנ֔וֹ [2] Zaqef
 
הָרְג֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
לְפִי־חָ֑רֶב [1] Etnachta
 
וַיִּקְח֧וּ אֶת־דִּינָ֛ה [3] Tevir
מִבֵּ֥ית שְׁכֶ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
וַיֵּצֵֽאוּ׃ [1] Silluq

and Shechem his son [2]
 
they killed [2]
with the edge of the sword; [1]
 
and they took Dinah [3]
from the house of Shechem, [2]
and they went out. [1]
27 בְּנֵ֣י יַעֲקֹ֗ב [3] Revi'i
בָּ֚אוּ [3] Yetiv
עַל־הַ֣חֲלָלִ֔ים [2] Zaqef
 
וַיָּבֹ֖זּוּ [2] Tip'cha
הָעִ֑יר [1] Etnachta
 
אֲשֶׁ֥ר טִמְּא֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
אֲחוֹתָֽם׃ [1] Silluq

they came [3]
upon the dead [2]
 
and they plundered [2]
the city; [1]
 
because they had defiled [2]
their sister. [1]
28 אֶת־צֹאנָ֥ם וְאֶת־בְּקָרָ֖ם [2] Tip'cha
וְאֶת־חֲמֹרֵיהֶ֑ם [1] Etnachta
 
וְאֵ֧ת אֲשֶׁר־בָּעִ֛יר [3] Tevir
וְאֶת־אֲשֶׁ֥ר בַּשָּׂדֶ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
לָקָֽחוּ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 3 28 Their flocks and their herds [2]
and their donkeys; [1]
 
and that which was in the city [3]
and that which was in the field, [2]
they took. [1]
29 וְאֶת־כׇּל־חֵילָ֤ם וְאֶת־כׇּל־טַפָּם֙ [3] Pashta
וְאֶת־נְשֵׁיהֶ֔ם [2] Zaqef
 
שָׁב֖וּ [2] Tip'cha
וַיָּבֹ֑זּוּ [1] Etnachta
 
וְאֵ֖ת [2] Tip'cha
כׇּל־אֲשֶׁ֥ר בַּבָּֽיִת׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 29 And all their wealth and all their little ones [3]
and their wives, [2]
 
they took captive [2]
and they plundered; [1]
 
and [2]
all that was in the house. [1]
30 וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יַעֲקֹ֜ב [4] Geresh
אֶל־שִׁמְע֣וֹן וְאֶל־לֵוִי֮ [3] Zarqa
עֲכַרְתֶּ֣ם אֹתִי֒ [2] Segol
 
לְהַבְאִישֵׁ֙נִי֙ [3 3] Pashta
בְּיֹשֵׁ֣ב הָאָ֔רֶץ [2] Zaqef
 
בַּֽכְּנַעֲנִ֖י [2] Tip'cha
וּבַפְּרִזִּ֑י [1] Etnachta
 
וַאֲנִי֙ [3] Pashta
מְתֵ֣י מִסְפָּ֔ר [2] Zaqef
 
וְנֶאֶסְפ֤וּ עָלַי֙ [3] Pashta
וְהִכּ֔וּנִי [2] Zaqef
 
וְנִשְׁמַדְתִּ֖י [2] Tip'cha
אֲנִ֥י וּבֵיתִֽי׃ [1] Silluq

to Simeon and to Levi, [3]
“You have troubled me, [2]
 
by making me odious [3 3]
among the inhabitants of the land, [2]
 
among the Canaanites [2]
and among the Perizzites; [1]
 
and I am [3]
few in number, [2]
 
and they will gather together against me [3]
and they will attack me, [2]
 
and I will be destroyed, [2]
I and my household.” [1]
31 וַיֹּאמְר֑וּ [1] Etnachta
 
הַכְזוֹנָ֕ה [2] ZaqefG
יַעֲשֶׂ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
אֶת־אֲחוֹתֵֽנוּ׃ [1] Silluq

“Like a prostitute [2]
should he use [2]
