2 The people [3] who walk in the darkness, [2] a great light. [1] in a land of deep darkness; [2] it will shine on them. [1] |
3 You will multiply the nation; [2] to it [2] you will magnify the rejoicing. [1] like the rejoicing at the harvest, [2] when they divide plunder. [1] |
4 For [4] the yoke of its burden [3] the staff of its shoulder, [2] of its oppressor; [1] as in the day of Midian. [1] |
5 For every boot [3] which marches in the noisy battle, [2] rolled in blood; [1] fuel for the fire. [1] |

6 For a child will be born to us; [3] a son, [3] he will be given to us; [2] on his shoulder. [1] Wonderful [4] Counselor, [3] Mighty God, [2] Prince of Peace. [1] |
7 Of the increase of his government [4] and of peace there shall be no end, [3] and over his kingdom, [2] and to sustain it [2] and in righteousness; [1] until forever; [2] of the LORD of Hosts, [2] it will accomplish this. [1] § |
[1] Silluq |
8 A word [3] the Lord has sent, [2] to Jacob; [1] on Israel. [1] |
9 And they will know, [3] the people, all of it; [2] and the inhabitants of Samaria; [1] and with greatness of heart [2] saying, [1] |
[1] Silluq |
10 “The bricks have fallen, [2] but with cut stone we will rebuild. [1] but cedars [2] we will put in their place.” [1] |
[1] Silluq |
11 Therefore the LORD has set on high [3] the adversaries of Rezin [2] against him; [1] he has stirred up; [1] |
12 Syria from the east, [3] and the Philistines [3] from the west; [2] with open mouth. [1] his anger is not turned back, [2] his hand is stretched out. [1] |
13 Yet the people have not turned back [2] to him who struck them, [1] they have not sought. [1] § |
[2] Tip'cha |
14 So the LORD has cut off [4] from Israel [3] palm branch and reed, [2] |
[1] Silluq |
15 The elder and the honorable man, [2] he is the head; [1] he is the tail. [1] |
[1] Silluq |
16 For they were [3] the guides of this people, [2] leading them astray; [1] were confused. [1] |
17 Therefore over its young men [4] he does not rejoice, [4] the Lord; [3] he doesn't have compassion on; [2] is profane and doing evil, [2] speaks disgraceful folly. [1] his anger has not turned back, [2] his hand is stretched out. [1] |
18 For it has burned like fire, [3] wickedness; [2] it devours; [1] in the thickets of the forest, [2] in a rising column of smoke. [1] |
19 By the wrath [3] of the LORD of Hosts, [2] the land has been scorched; [1] are like fuel for the fire; [2] they did not spare. [1] |
[1] Silluq |
20 And it devoured on the right side, [3] and was still hungry; [2] and they were not satisfied. [1] they ate; [1] |
21 Manasseh against Ephraim; [3] and Ephraim [3 3] against Manasseh; [2] against Judah. [1] his anger is not turned back, [2] his hand is stretched out. [1] § |
