1 וַיְהִ֣י הַיּ֔וֹם [2] Zaqef

וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ [3 3] Pashta
בְּנֵ֣י הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים [2] Zaqef

לְהִתְיַצֵּ֖ב [2] Tip'cha
עַל־יְהֹוָ֑ה [1] Etnachta

וַיָּב֤וֹא גַֽם־הַשָּׂטָן֙ [3] Pashta

לְהִתְיַצֵּ֖ב [2] Tip'cha
עַל־יְהֹוָֽה׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 2 3 2 2 3 2 1 Again on the day [2]

when they came, [3 3]
the sons of God [2]

to present themselves [2]
before the LORD; [1]

the adversary also came [3]
among them [2]

to present himself [2]
before the LORD. [1]
2 וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהֹוָה֙ [3] Pashta
אֶל־הַשָּׂטָ֔ן [2] Zaqef

אֵ֥י מִזֶּ֖ה [2] Tip'cha
תָּבֹ֑א [1] Etnachta

וַיַּ֨עַן הַשָּׂטָ֤ן אֶת־יְהֹוָה֙ [3] Pashta
וַיֹּאמַ֔ר [2] Zaqef

מִשֻּׁ֣ט בָּאָ֔רֶץ [2] Zaqef
וּמֵֽהִתְהַלֵּ֖ךְ [2] Tip'cha
בָּֽהּ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 2 3 2 2 2 And the LORD said [3]
to the adversary, [2]

“From where [2]
are you coming?” [1]

And the adversary answered the LORD [3]
and he said, [2]

“From going to and fro on the earth [2]
and from walking up and down [2]
on it.” [1]
3 וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהֹוָ֜ה [4] Geresh
אֶל־הַשָּׂטָ֗ן [3] Revi'i

הֲשַׂ֣מְתָּ לִבְּךָ֮ [3] Zarqa

וַתְּסִיתֵ֥נִי ב֖וֹ [2] Tip'cha
לְבַלְּע֥וֹ חִנָּֽם׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 4 3 2 3 4 3 2 3 2 3 And the LORD said [4]
to the adversary, [3]

“Have you considered [3]
my servant Job? [2]

For there is none like him [4]
on the earth, [3]

a man blameless and upright, [3]
fearing God, [2]

and who turns aside from evil; [1]

and he still [3 3]
maintains his integrity, [2]

though you incited me against him [2]
to ruin him without cause.” [1]
4 וַיַּ֧עַן הַשָּׂטָ֛ן [3] Tevir
אֶת־יְהֹוָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha

בְּעַ֥ד נַפְשֽׁוֹ׃ [1] Silluq
1 2 3 2 3 3 2 4 And the adversary answered [3]
the LORD, [2]
and he said, [1]

“Skin for skin, [3]

he will give [2]
for his life. [1]

1 2 3 2 2 5 But [3]
stretch out your hand now, [2]

and touch his bone [2]
and his flesh; [1]

if not to your face [2]
he will renounce you.” [1]
6 וַיֹּ֧אמֶר יְהֹוָ֛ה [3] Tevir

1 2 3 2 6 And the LORD said [3]
to the adversary, [2]
“Behold, he is in your hand; [1]

only [2]

7 וַיֵּצֵא֙ [3] Pashta

1 2 3 2 2 3 2 7 So he went out, [3]
the adversary [2]

from [2]
the presence of the LORD; [1]

and he struck Job [3]
with painful sores [2]

from the sole of his foot [2]
to the crown of his head. [1]
8 וַיִּֽקַּֽח־ל֣וֹ חֶ֔רֶשׂ [2] Zaqef

1 2 2 2 8 And he took for himself a potsherd, [2]
to scrape himself [2]

and they tore [3]
each one his robe, [2]

and they sprinkled dust [3]

and no one spoke to him [3]
a word, [2]

for they saw [2]
that the pain was great [2]
very. [1]
