| 1 וַיְהִ֣י ׀ [4] Munach Legarmeh בְּחֹ֣דֶשׁ נִיסָ֗ן [3] Munach Revi'a לְאַרְתַּחְשַׁ֥סְתְּא הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ [2] Merkha Tip'cha וָאֶתְּנָ֣ה לַמֶּ֔לֶךְ [2] Munach Zaqef לְפָנָֽיו׃ [1] Silluq |
1 Then it happened [4] in the month Nisan [3] of Artaxerxes the king, [2] and I gave it to the king. [2] in his presence. [1] |
| 2 וַיֹּ֩אמֶר֩ לִ֨י הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ [4] TelishaQ Qadma Geresh מַדּ֣וּעַ ׀ [4] Munach Legarmeh פָּנֶ֣יךָ רָעִ֗ים [3] Munach Revi'a אֵֽינְךָ֣ חוֹלֶ֔ה [2] Munach Zaqef כִּי־אִ֖ם [2] Tip'cha רֹ֣עַֽ לֵ֑ב [1] Munach Etnachta הַרְבֵּ֥ה מְאֹֽד׃ [1] Merkha Silluq |
2 So the king said to me, [4] “Why [4] is your face sad, [3] you are not sick? [2] but [2] sadness of heart.” [1] very greatly. [1] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
3 But I said to the king, [2] “The king, [2] may he live forever! [1] should my face not be sad, [3] the place of the tombs of my fathers, [3] is desolate, [2] they have been destroyed by fire?” [1] |
4 Then he said to me, [3] the king, [2] do you request?” [1] to the God [2] of the heavens, [1] |
5 and I said to the king, [2] “If it pleases the king [2] and if your servant has found favor [2] in your sight; [1] to the city [3] of the tombs of my fathers, [2] that I may rebuild it.” [1] |
| 6 וַיֹּ֩אמֶר֩ לִ֨י הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ [4] TelishaQ Qadma Geresh וְהַשֵּׁגַ֣ל ׀ [4] Munach Legarmeh יוֹשֶׁ֣בֶת אֶצְל֗וֹ [3] Munach Revi'a יִהְיֶ֥ה מַֽהֲלָכְךָ֖ [2] Merkha Tip'cha וַיִּשְׁלָחֵ֔נִי [2] Zaqef זְמָֽן׃ [1] Silluq |
6 Then the king said to me, [4] with the queen [4] sitting beside him, [3] will your journey be, [2] to send me, [2] a time. [1] |
7 And I said [3] to the king, [2] be given to me [2] beyond the River; [1] they may let me pass through [2] to Judah, [1] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
8 and a letter [4] to Asaph the keeper of the forest [4] of the king, [3] to make beams for [4] the gates of the fortress of the Temple, [3] and for the wall of the city, [2] which I will occupy;” [1] because the hand of my God [2] for good was upon me. [1] |
| 9 וָֽאָב֗וֹא [3] Revi'a אֶֽל־פַּֽחֲווֹת֙ [3] Pashta עֵ֣בֶר הַנָּהָ֔ר [2] Munach Zaqef אֵ֖ת [2] Tip'cha אִגְּר֣וֹת הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ [1] Munach Etnachta הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ [2] Zaqef וּפָרָשִֽׁים׃ [1] Silluq פ |
9 Then I went [3] to the governors [3] beyond the River, [2] -- [2] the letters of the king; [1] the king, [2] and horsemen. [1] ¶ |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
10 When he heard, [4] Sanballat the Horonite [3] the Ammonite servant, [2] greatly; [1] to seek good [2] for the children of Israel. [1] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
11 So I came [2] to Jerusalem; [1] three days, [1] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
12 then I arose [4] in the night, [3] a few, [3] with me, [2] my God [3] had put into my heart [2] for Jerusalem; [1] there was not with me, [2] the animal [2] was riding on. [1] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
13 And I went out by the valley gate [4] by night [3] the jackal’s well, [2] of the dung; [1] the walls of Jerusalem [3] which were broken down, [2] destroyed by fire. [1] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
14 Then I went on [3] to the fountain gate [2] of the king; [1] to pass through under me. [1] |
15 So I went up the valley [3] by night [2] the wall; [1] and I went [3] in the valley gate, [2] and so I returned. [1] |
[1] Merkha Silluq |
16 And the officials, [3] they didn’t know [3] where I had gone, [2] I was doing; [1] or to the nobles or to the officials, [3] who would do the work, [2] I had not told. [1] |
17 Then I said to them, [3] “You see [3] the bad situation [3] that we are in, [2] is desolate [2] they have been burned with fire; [1] and let us rebuild [3] the wall of Jerusalem, [2] a disgrace.” [1] |
| 18 וָאַגִּ֨יד לָהֶ֜ם [4] Qadma Geresh אֶת־יַ֣ד אֱלֹהַ֗י [3] Munach Revi'a טוֹבָ֣ה עָלַ֔י [2] Munach Zaqef אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָֽמַר־לִ֑י [1] Munach Etnachta נָק֣וּם וּבָנִ֔ינוּ [2] Munach Zaqef לַטּוֹבָֽה׃ [1] Silluq פ |
18 And I told them [4] of the hand of my God [3] was on me for good, [2] which he had spoken to me; [1] “Let us rise up and rebuild.” [2] for the good (work). [1] ¶ |
| 19 וַיִּשְׁמַע֩ סַנְבַלַּ֨ט הַחֹרֹנִ֜י [4] TelishaQ Qadma Geresh וְטֹבִיָּ֣ה ׀ [4] Munach Legarmeh הָעֶ֣בֶד הָֽעַמּוֹנִ֗י [3] Munach Revi'a הָֽעַרְבִ֔י [2] Zaqef וַיִּבְז֖וּ [2] Tip'cha עָלֵ֑ינוּ [1] Etnachta מָֽה־הַדָּבָ֤ר הַזֶּה֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta אֲשֶׁ֣ר אַתֶּ֣ם עֹשִׂ֔ים [2] Munach Munach Zaqef אַתֶּ֥ם מֹרְדִֽים׃ [1] Merkha Silluq |
19 But when he heard, Sanballat the Horonite [4] and Tobiah [4] the Ammonite servant, [3] the Arab, [2] and they despised [2] us; [1] “What is this thing [3] that you are doing? [2] are you rebelling?” [1] |
| 20 וָאָשִׁ֨יב אוֹתָ֜ם [4] Qadma Geresh דָּבָ֗ר [3] Revi'a אֱלֹהֵ֣י הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם [2] Munach Zaqef יַצְלִ֣יחַֽ לָ֔נוּ [2] Munach Zaqef נָק֣וּם וּבָנִ֑ינוּ [1] Munach Etnachta אֵֽין־חֵ֧לֶק וּצְדָקָ֛ה [3] Darga Tevir וְזִכָּר֖וֹן [2] Tip'cha בִּירוּשָׁלָֽ͏ִם׃ [1] Silluq פ |
20 So I sent back to them [4] a word [3] “The God of the heavens, [2] he will grant success to us, [2] we will arise and we will rebuild; [1] no share or right [3] or heritage [2] in Jerusalem.” [1] ¶ |
