	¹וַיְהִ֣י ׀ [4] Munach Legarmeh בְּחֹ֣דֶשׁ נִיסָ֗ן [3] Munach Revi'a שְׁנַ֥ת עֶשְׂרִ֛ים [3] Merkha Tevir לְאַרְתַּחְשַׁ֥סְתְּא הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ [2] Merkha Tip'cha יַ֣יִן לְפָנָ֑יו [1] Munach Etnachta וָאֶשָּׂ֤א אֶת־הַיַּ֙יִן֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta וָאֶתְּנָ֣ה לַמֶּ֔לֶךְ [2] Munach Zaqef וְלֹא־הָיִ֥יתִי רַ֖ע [2] Merkha Tip'cha לְפָנָֽיו׃ [1] Silluq		¹Then it happened [4] in the month Nisan [3] of year twenty [3] of Artaxerxes the king, [2] wine was before him; [1] and I picked up the wine [3] and I gave it to the king. [2] Now I had not been sad [2] in his presence. [1]
	²וַיֹּ֩אמֶר֩ לִ֨י הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ [4] TelishaQ Qadma Geresh מַדּ֣וּעַ ׀ [4] Munach Legarmeh פָּנֶ֣יךָ רָעִ֗ים [3] Munach Revi'a וְאַתָּה֙ [3] Pashta אֵֽינְךָ֣ חוֹלֶ֔ה [2] Munach Zaqef אֵ֣ין זֶ֔ה [2] Munach Zaqef כִּי־אִ֖ם [2] Tip'cha רֹ֣עַֽ לֵ֑ב [1] Munach Etnachta וָאִירָ֖א [2] Tip'cha הַרְבֵּ֥ה מְאֹֽד׃ [1] Merkha Silluq		²So the king said to me, [4] “Why [4] is your face sad, [3] since you, [3] you are not sick? [2] This is nothing [2] but [2] sadness of heart.” [1] Then I was afraid [2] very greatly. [1]
	³וָאֹמַ֣ר לַמֶּ֔לֶךְ [2] Munach Zaqef הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ [2] Tip'cha לְעוֹלָ֣ם יִחְיֶ֑ה [1] Munach Etnachta מַדּ֜וּעַ [4] Geresh לֹא־יֵרְע֣וּ פָנַ֗י [3] Munach Revi'a אֲשֶׁ֨ר הָעִ֜יר [4] Qadma Geresh בֵּית־קִבְר֤וֹת אֲבֹתַי֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta חֲרֵבָ֔ה [2] Zaqef וּשְׁעָרֶ֖יהָ [2] Tip'cha אֻכְּל֥וּ בָאֵֽשׁ׃ [1] Merkha Silluq		³But I said to the king, [2] “The king, [2] may he live forever! [1] Why [4] should my face not be sad, [3] when the city, [4] the place of the tombs of my fathers, [3] is desolate, [2] and its gates, [2] they have been destroyed by fire?” [1]
	⁴וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לִי֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ [2] Zaqef עַל־מַה־זֶּ֖ה [2] Tip'cha אַתָּ֣ה מְבַקֵּ֑שׁ [1] Munach Etnachta וָֽאֶתְפַּלֵּ֔ל [2] Zaqef אֶל־אֱלֹהֵ֖י [2] Tip'cha הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ [1] Silluq		⁴Then he said to me, [3] the king, [2] “What [2] do you request?” [1] So I prayed [2] to the God [2] of the heavens, [1]
	⁵וָאֹמַ֣ר לַמֶּ֔לֶךְ [2] Munach Zaqef אִם־עַל־הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ ט֔וֹב [2] Munach Zaqef וְאִם־יִיטַ֥ב עַבְדְּךָ֖ [2] Merkha Tip'cha לְפָנֶ֑יךָ [1] Etnachta אֲשֶׁ֧ר תִּשְׁלָחֵ֣נִי אֶל־יְהוּדָ֗ה [3] Darga Munach Revi'a אֶל־עִ֛יר [3] Tevir קִבְר֥וֹת אֲבֹתַ֖י [2] Merkha Tip'cha וְאֶבְנֶֽנָּה׃ [1] Silluq		⁵and I said to the king, [2] “If it pleases the king [2] and if your servant has found favor [2] in your sight; [1] that you would send me to Judah, [3] to the city [3] of the tombs of my fathers, [2] that I may rebuild it.” [1]
	⁶וַיֹּ֩אמֶר֩ לִ֨י הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ [4] TelishaQ Qadma Geresh וְהַשֵּׁגַ֣ל ׀ [4] Munach Legarmeh יוֹשֶׁ֣בֶת אֶצְל֗וֹ [3] Munach Revi'a עַד־מָתַ֛י [3] Tevir יִהְיֶ֥ה מַֽהֲלָכְךָ֖ [2] Merkha Tip'cha וּמָתַ֣י תָּשׁ֑וּב [1] Munach Etnachta וַיִּיטַ֤ב לִפְנֵֽי־הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta וַיִּשְׁלָחֵ֔נִי [2] Zaqef וָֽאֶתְּנָ֥ה ל֖וֹ [2] Merkha Tip'cha זְמָֽן׃ [1] Silluq		⁶Then the king said to me, [4] with the queen [4] sitting beside him, [3] “how long [3] will your journey be, [2] and when will you return?” [1] So it pleased the king [3] to send me, [2] and I set for him [2] a time. [1]
	⁷וָאוֹמַר֮ [3] Zarqa לַמֶּ֒לֶךְ֒ [2] Segol אִם־עַל־הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ ט֔וֹב [2] Munach Zaqef אִגְּרוֹת֙ [3] Pashta יִתְּנוּ־לִ֔י [2] Zaqef עַֽל־פַּחֲו֖וֹת [2] Tip'cha עֵ֣בֶר הַנָּהָ֑ר [1] Munach Etnachta אֲשֶׁר֙ [3] Pashta יַעֲבִיר֔וּנִי [2] Zaqef עַ֥ד אֲשֶׁר־אָב֖וֹא [2] Merkha Tip'cha אֶל־יְהוּדָֽה׃ [1] Silluq		⁷And I said [3] to the king, [2] “If it pleases the king, [2] (let) letters [3] be given to me [2] for the governors [2] beyond the River; [1] that [3] they may let me pass through [2] until I come [2] to Judah, [1]
	⁸וְאִגֶּ֡רֶת [4] Pazer אֶל־אָסָף֩ שֹׁמֵ֨ר הַפַּרְדֵּ֜ס [4] TelishaQ Qadma Geresh אֲשֶׁ֣ר לַמֶּ֗לֶךְ [3] Munach Revi'a אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִתֶּן־לִ֣י עֵצִ֡ים [4] Munach Munach Pazer לְ֠קָר֠וֹת [4] TelishaG אֶת־שַׁעֲרֵ֨י הַבִּירָ֤ה אֲשֶׁר־לַבַּ֙יִת֙ [3] Qadma Mapakh Pashta וּלְחוֹמַ֣ת הָעִ֔יר [2] Munach Zaqef וְלַבַּ֖יִת [2] Tip'cha אֲשֶׁר־אָב֣וֹא אֵלָ֑יו [1] Munach Etnachta וַיִּתֶּן־לִ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ [2] Munach Zaqef כְּיַד־אֱלֹהַ֖י [2] Tip'cha הַטּוֹבָ֥ה עָלָֽי׃ [1] Merkha Silluq		⁸and a letter [4] to Asaph the keeper of the forest [4] of the king, [3] that he may give me timber [4] to make beams for [4] the gates of the fortress of the Temple, [3] and for the wall of the city, [2] and for the house [2] which I will occupy;” [1] and the king gave them to me, [2] because the hand of my God [2] for good was upon me. [1]
	⁹וָֽאָב֗וֹא [3] Revi'a אֶֽל־פַּֽחֲווֹת֙ [3] Pashta עֵ֣בֶר הַנָּהָ֔ר [2] Munach Zaqef וָאֶתְּנָ֣ה לָהֶ֔ם [2] Munach Zaqef אֵ֖ת [2] Tip'cha אִגְּר֣וֹת הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ [1] Munach Etnachta וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח עִמִּי֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ [2] Zaqef שָׂ֥רֵי חַ֖יִל [2] Merkha Tip'cha וּפָרָשִֽׁים׃ [1] Silluq פ		⁹Then I went [3] to the governors [3] beyond the River, [2] and I gave them [2] -- [2] the letters of the king; [1] and he had also sent with me, [3] the king, [2] officers of the army [2] and horsemen. [1] ¶
	¹⁰וַיִּשְׁמַ֞ע [4] Gershayim סַנְבַלַּ֣ט הַחֹרֹנִ֗י [3] Munach Revi'a וְטֽוֹבִיָּה֙ [3] Pashta הָעֶ֣בֶד הָֽעַמֹּנִ֔י [2] Munach Zaqef וַיֵּ֥רַע לָהֶ֖ם [2] Merkha Tip'cha רָעָ֣ה גְדֹלָ֑ה [1] Munach Etnachta אֲשֶׁר־בָּ֣א אָדָ֔ם [2] Munach Zaqef לְבַקֵּ֥שׁ טוֹבָ֖ה [2] Merkha Tip'cha לִבְנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ [1] Merkha Silluq		¹⁰When he heard, [4] Sanballat the Horonite [3] and Tobiah [3] the Ammonite servant, [2] it displeased them [2] greatly; [1] that someone had come [2] to seek good [2] for the children of Israel. [1]
	¹¹וָאָב֖וֹא [2] Tip'cha אֶל־יְרוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם [1] Etnachta וָאֱהִי־שָׁ֖ם [2] Tip'cha יָמִ֥ים שְׁלֹשָֽׁה׃ [1] Merkha Silluq		¹¹So I came [2] to Jerusalem; [1] and I was there [2] three days, [1]
	¹²וָאָק֣וּם ׀ [4] Munach Legarmeh לַ֗יְלָה [3] Revi'a אֲנִי֮ [3] Zarqa וַאֲנָשִׁ֣ים ׀ [4] Munach Legarmeh מְעַט֮ [3] Zarqa עִמִּי֒ [2] Segol וְלֹא־הִגַּ֣דְתִּי לְאָדָ֔ם [2] Munach Zaqef מָ֗ה [3] Revi'a אֱלֹהַי֙ [3] Pashta נֹתֵ֣ן אֶל־לִבִּ֔י [2] Munach Zaqef לַעֲשׂ֖וֹת [2] Tip'cha לִירוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם [1] Etnachta וּבְהֵמָה֙ [3] Pashta אֵ֣ין עִמִּ֔י [2] Munach Zaqef כִּ֚י [3] Yetiv אִם־הַבְּהֵמָ֔ה [2] Zaqef אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֲנִ֖י [2] Merkha Tip'cha רֹכֵ֥ב בָּֽהּ׃ [1] Merkha Silluq		¹²then I arose [4] in the night, [3] I [3] and men [4] a few, [3] with me, [2] but I hadn't told anyone [2] what [3] my God [3] had put into my heart [2] to do [2] for Jerusalem; [1] and any animal [3] there was not with me, [2] except [3] the animal [2] which I [2] was riding on. [1]
	¹³וָאֵצְאָ֨ה בְשַֽׁעַר־הַגַּ֜יְא [4] Qadma Geresh לַ֗יְלָה [3] Revi'a וְאֶל־פְּנֵי֙ [3] Pashta עֵ֣ין הַתַּנִּ֔ין [2] Munach Zaqef וְאֶל־שַׁ֖עַר [2] Tip'cha הָאַשְׁפֹּ֑ת [1] Etnachta וָאֱהִ֨י שֹׂבֵ֜ר [4] Qadma Geresh בְּחוֹמֹ֤ת יְרוּשָׁלַ֙͏ִם֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta אֲשֶׁר־המפרוצים *הֵ֣ם ׀ פְּרוּצִ֔ים [2] Munach Zaqef וּשְׁעָרֶ֖יהָ [2] Tip'cha אֻכְּל֥וּ בָאֵֽשׁ׃ [1] Merkha Silluq		¹³And I went out by the valley gate [4] by night [3] and toward [3] the jackal’s well, [2] then to the gate [2] of the dung; [1] and I inspected [4] the walls of Jerusalem [3] which were broken down, [2] and its gates, [2] destroyed by fire. [1]
	¹⁴וָאֶֽעֱבֹר֙ [3] Pashta אֶל־שַׁ֣עַר הָעַ֔יִן [2] Munach Zaqef וְאֶל־בְּרֵכַ֖ת [2] Tip'cha הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ [1] Etnachta וְאֵין־מָק֥וֹם לַבְּהֵמָ֖ה [2] Merkha Tip'cha לַעֲבֹ֥ר תַּחְתָּֽי׃ [1] Merkha Silluq		¹⁴Then I went on [3] to the fountain gate [2] and to the pool [2] of the king; [1] but there was no room for the animal [2] to pass through under me. [1]
	¹⁵וָאֱהִ֨י עֹלֶ֤ה בַנַּ֙חַל֙ [3] Qadma Mapakh Pashta לַ֔יְלָה [2] Zaqef וָאֱהִ֥י שֹׂבֵ֖ר [2] Merkha Tip'cha בַּחוֹמָ֑ה [1] Etnachta וָאָשׁ֗וּב [3] Revi'a וָאָב֛וֹא [3] Tevir בְּשַׁ֥עַר הַגַּ֖יְא [2] Merkha Tip'cha וָאָשֽׁוּב׃ [1] Silluq		¹⁵So I went up the valley [3] by night [2] and I inspected [2] the wall; [1] then I turned back [3] and I went [3] in the valley gate, [2] and so I returned. [1]
	¹⁶וְהַסְּגָנִ֗ים [3] Revi'a לֹ֤א יָדְעוּ֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta אָ֣נָה הָלַ֔כְתִּי [2] Munach Zaqef וּמָ֖ה [2] Tip'cha אֲנִ֣י עֹשֶׂ֑ה [1] Munach Etnachta וְלַיְּהוּדִ֨ים וְלַכֹּהֲנִ֜ים [4] Qadma Geresh וְלַחֹרִ֣ים וְלַסְּגָנִ֗ים [3] Munach Revi'a וּלְיֶ֙תֶר֙ [3] Pashta עֹשֵׂ֣ה הַמְּלָאכָ֔ה [2] Munach Zaqef עַד־כֵּ֖ן [2] Tip'cha לֹ֥א הִגַּֽדְתִּי׃ [1] Merkha Silluq		¹⁶And the officials, [3] they didn’t know [3] where I had gone, [2] or what [2] I was doing; [1] and to the Jews or to the priests [4] or to the nobles or to the officials, [3] or to the rest [3] who would do the work, [2] up to now [2] I had not told. [1]
	¹⁷וָאוֹמַ֣ר אֲלֵהֶ֗ם [3] Munach Revi'a אַתֶּ֤ם רֹאִים֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta הָרָעָה֙ [3] Pashta אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֲנַ֣חְנוּ בָ֔הּ [2] Munach Munach Zaqef אֲשֶׁ֤ר יְרוּשָׁלַ֙͏ִם֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta חֲרֵבָ֔ה [2] Zaqef וּשְׁעָרֶ֖יהָ [2] Tip'cha נִצְּת֣וּ בָאֵ֑שׁ [1] Munach Etnachta לְכ֗וּ [3] Revi'a וְנִבְנֶה֙ [3] Pashta אֶת־חוֹמַ֣ת יְרוּשָׁלַ֔͏ִם [2] Munach Zaqef וְלֹא־נִהְיֶ֥ה ע֖וֹד [2] Merkha Tip'cha חֶרְפָּֽה׃ [1] Silluq		¹⁷Then I said to them, [3] “You see [3] the bad situation [3] that we are in, [2] that Jerusalem [3] is desolate [2] and its gates, [2] they have been burned with fire; [1] come [3] and let us rebuild [3] the wall of Jerusalem, [2] that we will no longer be [2] a disgrace.” [1]
	¹⁸וָאַגִּ֨יד לָהֶ֜ם [4] Qadma Geresh אֶת־יַ֣ד אֱלֹהַ֗י [3] Munach Revi'a אֲשֶׁר־הִיא֙ [3] Pashta טוֹבָ֣ה עָלַ֔י [2] Munach Zaqef וְאַף־דִּבְרֵ֥י הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ [2] Merkha Tip'cha אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָֽמַר־לִ֑י [1] Munach Etnachta וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ [3] Pashta נָק֣וּם וּבָנִ֔ינוּ [2] Munach Zaqef וַיְחַזְּק֥וּ יְדֵיהֶ֖ם [2] Merkha Tip'cha לַטּוֹבָֽה׃ [1] Silluq פ		¹⁸And I told them [4] of the hand of my God [3] which [3] was on me for good, [2] and also the words of the king [2] which he had spoken to me; [1] then they said, [3] “Let us rise up and rebuild.” [2] So they strengthened their hands [2] for the good (work). [1] ¶
	¹⁹וַיִּשְׁמַע֩ סַנְבַלַּ֨ט הַחֹרֹנִ֜י [4] TelishaQ Qadma Geresh וְטֹבִיָּ֣ה ׀ [4] Munach Legarmeh הָעֶ֣בֶד הָֽעַמּוֹנִ֗י [3] Munach Revi'a וְגֶ֙שֶׁם֙ [3] Pashta הָֽעַרְבִ֔י [2] Zaqef וַיַּלְעִ֣גוּ לָ֔נוּ [2] Munach Zaqef וַיִּבְז֖וּ [2] Tip'cha עָלֵ֑ינוּ [1] Etnachta וַיֹּאמְר֗וּ [3] Revi'a מָֽה־הַדָּבָ֤ר הַזֶּה֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta אֲשֶׁ֣ר אַתֶּ֣ם עֹשִׂ֔ים [2] Munach Munach Zaqef הַעַ֥ל הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ [2] Merkha Tip'cha אַתֶּ֥ם מֹרְדִֽים׃ [1] Merkha Silluq		¹⁹But when he heard, Sanballat the Horonite [4] and Tobiah [4] the Ammonite servant, [3] and Geshem [3] the Arab, [2] they ridiculed us [2] and they despised [2] us; [1] and they said, [3] “What is this thing [3] that you are doing? [2] Against the king [2] are you rebelling?” [1]
	²⁰וָאָשִׁ֨יב אוֹתָ֜ם [4] Qadma Geresh דָּבָ֗ר [3] Revi'a וָאוֹמַ֤ר לָהֶם֙ [3] Mapakh Pashta אֱלֹהֵ֣י הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם [2] Munach Zaqef ה֚וּא [3] Yetiv יַצְלִ֣יחַֽ לָ֔נוּ [2] Munach Zaqef וַאֲנַ֥חְנוּ עֲבָדָ֖יו [2] Merkha Tip'cha נָק֣וּם וּבָנִ֑ינוּ [1] Munach Etnachta וְלָכֶ֗ם [3] Revi'a אֵֽין־חֵ֧לֶק וּצְדָקָ֛ה [3] Darga Tevir וְזִכָּר֖וֹן [2] Tip'cha בִּירוּשָׁלָֽ͏ִם׃ [1] Silluq פ		²⁰So I sent back to them [4] a word [3] and I said to them, [3] “The God of the heavens, [2] he, [3] he will grant success to us, [2] and we his servants, [2] we will arise and we will rebuild; [1] but you have [3] no share or right [3] or heritage [2] in Jerusalem.” [1] ¶
