Introduction
This account of Daniyel with Greek portions contains the familiar accounts and visions from Daniyel, together with additional passages preserved in Greek. Daniyel and his friends are taken from Yehudah (Judah) to Bavel (Babylon), where they must decide how to remain faithful to God while serving foreign rulers. The accounts of dreams, royal demands, a blazing furnace, and a den of lions show God’s power to humble kings and protect those who trust him.
The additional material includes Azaryah’s prayer and the three friends’ song of praise while they are in the furnace. It also includes the account of Shoshanah (Susanna), whom Daniyel rescues from false accusations, and the accounts of Bel and the dragon, in which he exposes false worship and is again delivered from lions. These passages share the wider book’s concerns with faithful worship, God’s justice, and rescue from powerful opponents.
This edition keeps the extra prayer and song within chapter 3, where they belong in the account. They occupy verses 24–90, and the earlier narrative resumes at verse 91, so the numbering differs from the other OET account of Daniyel. Shoshanah’s account is in chapter 13, and Bel and the dragon are in chapter 14.
