The Eastern Gate
5 And there was a wall on the outside of the temple all the way around it,[fn] and in the hand of the man the reed[fn] for measurementwas six long cubits, according to[fn] the cubit[fn] and a handbreadth,[fn] and he measured the width of the outer wallas one reed,[fn] andthe height as one reed.[fn] 6 And then he went toward[fn]the gate whose face was to the east.[fn] And he went up by[fn] its steps, and he measured the threshold of the gate, one reed[fn] wide. 7 And the alcove[fn]was one reed[fn] long and one reed[fn] wide,[fn] and between the alcoveswas five cubits,[fn] and the threshold of the gate along the side of the portico of the gateon the inside[fn]was one reed.[fn] 8 And then he measured the portico of the gate on the inside[fn]as one reed.[fn] 9 And he measured the portico of the gate as eight cubits,[fn] and its pilasterwas two cubits[fn]thick, and he measured the portico of the gate on the inside.[fn] 10 And the alcoves[fn] of the gatetoward the way[fn]eastward[fn]were three on each side;[fn]the same measurements applied to all three of them;[fn] andthe same measurement applied to the pilaster[fn]on each side.[fn] 11 And he measured the width of the doorway of the gate as ten cubits[fn] and the length of the gateway[fn]was thirteen cubits.[fn] 12 And a wall[fn]was before[fn] the alcoves;one cubit[fn] on either side[fn]was the wall from here.[fn] And the alcovewas six cubits[fn] on each side.[fn] 13 And he measured the gate from the top slab of the alcove to its opposite top slab as twenty-five cubits in width, from one entrance to the other one opposite it.[fn] 14 And he made the pilasters sixty cubits,[fn] and to the pilaster of the courtyardall the way around the gate.[fn] 15 And from the front of[fn] the gateat the entrance to the front of[fn] the portico of the inner gatewas fifty cubits.[fn] 16 And there were narrow windows for the alcoves and for their pilasters to the inside of the gate all the way around[fn]it. And likewise with respect to the porticos and windows were all the way around[fn] to the inside, and on a pilasterthere were images of palm trees.[fn]
