The promise to Israel

The promise to Israel

Shorter

46Then Israel set out on his journey with all that he had. He went to Beersheba and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. 2God spoke to Israel in a vision by night and said, ‘Jacob, Jacob.’ He answered. ‘Here I am.’ 3Then God said, ‘I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down into Egypt, for there I will make of you a great nation. 4I myself will go down with you into Egypt; and I will surely bring you up again; and Joseph will be the one who closes your dying eyes.’

5When Jacob left Beersheba, his sons carried him and their little ones and their wives in the wagons that Pharaoh had sent to carry him. 6They took their herds and the possessions they had acquired in Canaan and went to Egypt, Jacob and all his family; 7his sons and grandsons, his daughters and his granddaughters, he brought all his family to Egypt.
