The woman and the dinosaur

12:1 The woman and the dinosaur

12Then a miraculous sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and with the moon under her feet, and a crown of twelve starts on her head. 2She was about to give birth and was crying out in pain and agony.

3Another miraculous sign appeared in heaven, and wow, a huge, red dinosaur with seven heads, ten horns, and seven crowns on his heads.[ref] 4His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and hurled them down to earth, then he stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that when the child was delivered, he could devour it.[ref] 5The woman gave birth to a son who’s going to rule all the nations with an iron scepter, and he was snatched away to God and to his throne,[ref] 6and the woman fled into the wilderness where God had prepared a place for her so that they might nourish her there for three and a half years.

7Then a battle began in heaven, with Micha’el and his messengers making war on the dinosaur. But the dinosaur and his messengers fought back,[ref] 8however the dinosaur couldn’t beat them, so after that they weren’t able to stay in heaven anymore. 9Thus the huge dinosaur was thrown out—that ancient snake called ‘the devil’ and ‘Satan’—the one who deceived the whole world. He was thrown down to the earth and his messengers were thrown down with him.[ref]

10Then I heard a loud voice in heaven saying, “Now our God’s salvation and power and kingdom have come, and the authority of his messiah, because the accuser of the believers has been thrown out—the one who spent day and night in front of God accusing them.[ref] 11They conquered him by means of the lamb’s blood and by the message in their testimony. Indeed, they were prepared to die if necessary. 12So, be glad you heavens and those who shelter in them. The earth and the sea won’t have a good ending because the devil has gone down to you and he’s very angry because he knows he doesn’t have much time left.”

13When the dinosaur realized that God had thrown him down to the earth, he tried to attack the woman who had given birth to the son. 14But two large, eagle wings were given to the woman so that she could fly away to the wilderness, to her place where she’ll be nourished away from the snake for three and a half years.[ref] 15Then the snake poured water out of his mouth like a river towards the woman so that the current would sweep her away, 16but the ground helped the woman by opening up a big hole, and so the flood that the dinosaur poured out from his mouth disappeared into it. 17The dinosaur was furious with the woman and went away to battle against the rest of her children, the ones obeying God’s commands and believing Yeshua’s testimony.
